They should definitely film HHB in the drier parts of Australia. Yes, the Middle East would be ideal but the place is a dangerous war-zone. Australia has a huge variety of landscapes, many of them never before seen in mainstream cinema.
Here are the beehive-like structures I pictured when I first read about The Tombs, back when I was 8 or 9: (Nambung National Park, Western Australia)
The narrow gorge leading to the pass into Narnia: Not quite what I pictured though, could be too chocolatey. (Weano Gorge. Karijini National Park, Western Australia)

Some of the desert scenes can be filmed in the Simpson Desert (somewhere in South Australia, the Northern Territory, Western Australia or Queensland).

Hmmm... Isn't Bree a dappled grey?

And Hwin I always pictured as either Palomino or chesnut

Wolfloversk, I don't know anything about horses, but the photos you linked to also look just how I imagined them.

Actually Warrior 4 Jesus, the picture of Bree is exactly the way the book describes him.
Yep it is. Not sure about Hwin being a pinto, but I can see it. This brings up a good question though, would the look more like Barbs, Arabians, and other Middle Eastern horses, since this takes place in the desert mainly, or would they look like European Breeds, Andalusians, Clydesdale, since they were born in Narnia? Does that aspect even matter? I do remember it saying that Bree was a dappled grey though, not sure if it ever mentioned Hwin's color.

I'd say either Arabian, Andalusian or a New Zealand horse for Hwin, providing she is the right colour and temperament. She, after all, is a thoroughbred horse build for speed, docility and a great lineage, not necessarily for strength. And New Zealand horses have been champion at winning the Melbourne Cup time out of mind.
For Bree I think a good Waler would be the best shot. Take a look at their history on Wikipedia. These were the gallant New South Wales war horses who bore the Australian Lighthorse brigade into Jerusalem in World War 1. I don't know if the colouring would be right, but it would be a marvellous salute to these dependable and gallant horses if the film Bree were one of their number. They also are the mounts of choice in the Police and were used for the Sydney Olympics equestrian competitors. According to the article they are mostly brown since any greys and spotted horses are not usually used for the military.
Um nice!

I don't think they should go with Edmund's role being played by Skandar. Skandar has announced that he refuses to take on any film projects while he's at university, but also, he's shown no interest in acting as a profession, and he just seems like he's tired of it. Now, I wouldn't say that his acting was bad in VDT, it was competent. But he didn't seem to put much enthusiasm into it. Now Anna and Will have both chosen acting as their profession, so they would want to play their roles to the best of their abilities. Also, Georgie says that she enjoys acting in general and playing Lucy in particular.
My proposal is that either they replace Skandar with Mark Wells, who played grown Edmund in LWW (But PLEASE give him a haircut). Alternatively, they can give Edmund's dialogue and actions to Lucy and Peter. Peter accompanies Susan to Tashbaan and helps to plan her escape. Lucy musters the troops in Narnia. Peter takes on Edmund's dialogue in Anvard, after the battle. Meanwhile Edmund is off fighting Telmarine bandits on the edge of the Western Wood, or he can fight giants, whatever.
The filmmakers need to do what they failed to do with VDT: Take time to create a sense of longing. Shasta does not know exactly why, but he has been "longing to go North" all his life.
It's also important to make Shasta seem like "the most unfortunate person in the world"... until the end where it is revealed that actually Aslan was there all along helping him out.

University takes usually about four years. By the time SC and MN are filmed Skandar's university days will be finished and he may be able to play Edmund. I think by that time Mark Wells would be too old to play Edmund, so if Skandar won't play Edmund, someone else might have to.
Sorry, I don't think that changing around which Pevensie plays what will work. Susan is the main problem in HHB, and it is important that Edmund, not the High King, is depicted faithfully, so that we can see how he was a king and led armies, as Edmund in VDT mentions.
I do NOT want Edmund recast. I hate it when the change the continuity! If worst comes to worst (which I don't think it will), they could always have Peter stand in for Edmund. But still, I think Skandar will be able to film it.
Winter Is Coming
The problem is that Edmund/Skandar, in the scene at Tashbaan, needs to be able to make the audiences feel the urgency of the situation, rather than just understanding it on a rational level. I don't think Skandar, with his lackadaisical attitude, would be able to do that.
