[Closed] HHB: What the filmmakers need to know, and your thoughts

Well since there already threads for the other three, I think it's high time we made one for HHB. What do you think should be in the film? Who should be in the cast and crew? What do the filmmakers need to know?

In terms of Directors I really want Adamson to do it :)

Another thing I think the filmmakers should do is reread LWW, PC, VDT, and SC along with HHB (really they should reread all 7) because there are somethings in HHB that are described in the other books. For examlpe the Slendour Hyaline is described in PC rather than HHB.

"Yes," said Susan, "and our great ship the Splendour Hyaline, with the swan's head at her prow and the carved swan's wings coming back almost to her waiste?"
"And the silken sails, and the great stern lanterns?"

Take note filmmakers! It basically looks like the Dawn Treader, except a swan instead of a dragon. I believe it was also grander, more majestic, and maybe bigger- that if I remember right was in VDT.

Basically, they really should reread all seven if they want to get the rest of the movies right.

Mods if this is an inappropriate topic, feel free to close :)

Shasta, Aravis, and Larasaleen should be in their teens.
I also think Hwin needs a bit more lines in the movie than in the book. She also needs a bit of a personality since she seems to be the most static and flat characters in the book.

My mind might change as the time gets closer, but I agree that Adamson should do this one. ;)

HHB is my second favorite book of the series, so this one means a lot to me just as VDT (#1) and MN including Shasta's longing, and both Aravis and Bree's humility. After watching some of "Aladdin" recently, I'm really excited for the Arabian feel of this story. And I have no idea how they'll do Archenland, but I hopw it'll look very majestic and medieval. :D

I'll think of more soon, but this is how I want the feel of HHB to come across. ;)

I think one of the most important things the filmmakers need to know about HHB is that it is Shasta (Cor), Aravis, Bree, and Hwin's story. It is important that they resist the temptation to greatly expand the role of the pevensies. A few added scenes here and there, not a problem. However there shouldn't be a whole new plotline involving the pevensies.

They can have Peter be in it. That would not be a problem. They can even add a few more of the Pevensies if necessary. But they better not shortchange the most important characters.

Anna, Skandar and Georgie should be in it as the adult Pevensies :D (I don't mind Peter in it too but he's my least favorite Pevensie so I don't mind either way) When they get to HHB (if they do), they would all be in their 20s, which is perfect. They were normal yet goodlooking children when they made LWW but I think they have all grown up to be very goodlooking young adults. (unlike many cute child stars). The adult Pevensies from LWW would be too old anyway.

I will scream if they put any sort of witch in that storyline.

They need to get Aslan right in this film (if it gets made) and not make him into a tame, always kind lion. He's good, but he also gives justice (ie. Him scratching Aravis' back in the book) I'd hate for him to be portrayed wrong...

Johnny Depp has been proposed for any role from Puddleglum to Uncle Andrew. I think not, myself. I can't see him as Puddleglum at all. And I don't particularly want him as Uncle Andrew either.

But I do agree he might make an excellent Rabadash. Now this is a character who is definitely over-the-top. Just listen to how he is played on the HHB segment of the BBC Narnia radio plays. He is just the person who might carry off the change into Rabadash the donkey.

Should Bree and Hwin be real horses for filming purposes? Or would they be extensively CGI characters?

As for Aslan's depiction, how many appearances would he really need to make? In the book there is all that Lion roaring to get Aravis and Shasta to join up, the boat-pushing Aslan did to save Shasta's life, the jackal deterrent at the tombs and then the crucial scenes with Aravis. At the end there are all the explanations, such as the separate explanations to Shasta on the mountain, Aravis and friends at the Hermit's house and then the doom of Rabadash. That is a lot of appearances for an expensive CGI character, isn't it? How would you minimise such appearances?

I definately think that Bree and Hwin should be real horses. The only problem would be to animated their mouths when they talk. But I think they could pull it off.

This is what I think:
Avris - unknown girl or Isabelle Furhman
Shasta/Cor - IDK, unknown?

waggawerewolf27, What did they do for that one horse Philip in LWW??? I'm not sure what they used for that, but it worked nicely...

Hmmmmm what I'd like to see:
- the original Pevensies playing adult Pevensies
- Larasaleen's line about her slaves not saying anything about Aravis :D
- I don't know about everyone's thoughts about this but I always saw Aravis as maybe a year older than Cor/Shasta
- Make Shasta's time with the Narnians in Tashbaan more believable (when reading the book I always found it strange to believe that he just sat in on their plans the whole time without saying anything)
- Possibly have Rabadash's army be bigger... looking at it now, unless Anvard's defenses and army is small, 200 doesn't seem like *that* much...

Hmmmmm well I don't know that much about horses, but I pictured Hwin a little more white-ish but that might just get people confused with the unicorn that Peter rides in LWW... that and Jewel... Bree looks awesome but maybe he should have more of a mane (or is it on the other side???)
