Thank you, fireheart209. I think you have nailed the essence of HHB. I agree with you that the filmmakers did not do enough to address the slavery problem in VDT, but I do think that in that book there were also other fish to fry.
In HHB the message is to do as one would be done by, loud and clear. And you have put the reasons why, at least in Aravis' case, loud and clear. Aravis certainly did need to change her attitude to the punishment of slaves, though we see her do this gradually throughout the book.
