It was a pretty good movie. :D But I still think that PC was better. It might be that 4 months has taken it's toll and I can't quite remember the best bits of the movie, but I feel that there was something missing from the movie. If I remember correctly, the music wasn't as inspiring as the score in LWW and PC. Watching PC the other day, I was still in awe at the music in the scene when Prince Caspian flees the castle. It creates such a sense of emotion, something which I don't think I felt when I was watching VDT. Hm... maybe it's time to re-watch it again... /:)

That is my abesolute favorite track out of all the films!

As for VDT, I feel as though I like the dvd better. Especially during the England sequences- it might just be me but I feel as though the dvd and much better and more natural coloring than either of the two theater versions I saw.

I did not go see it in theaters for health reasons. But I can say with all honesty, if I had I would've hated it. I am a purist, and yes I understand that there were parts of the book that would have to be changed to make it filmable. But to change it into something it's not is completely unforgivable. I read reviews, I listened to the Narniaweb podcast, I watched glumpuddle's and rillian's reviews on youtube, and it almost made me ill. I may rent it via Netflix just so I can say I watched it, but as far as buying it, no way, no how.

Having now seen VDT, I can rate it (maybe not accurately being just a first viewing, but definitely some thoughts).

Well, going into it, I saw the ship and I saw familiar faces, but I was not seeing a Narnia film. Right from the get-go and throughout something was (and is) missing. Let's talk about plot. Um.... was there one? By the time you knew where you were and the situation, we jumped to something else. There's nothing really memorable on that note.

From plot, let's move to characters. It was really hard to have any sort of an emotional connection with any character. Character development moved about as quickly as the plot. I feel sorry for the people who haven't read the book, we don't even really know what's going on with well known VDT characters (i.e. the slave traders, the dufflepuds, Coriakin, Ramandu's daughter, etc.). Added characters, oi. There's absolutely no connection to them. There appear, then they're gone for a few scenes, then they have a mention, and then by the end of the film, we're supposed to feel for them. I had absolutely no connection to Gael and Rhince reuniting with the woman or for any of the "freed Narnians" in all the small boats (who are they?).

The coloration was absolutely beautiful. I really loved the shots with the DT sailing, with the sun rising or setting. At the end of the film, it was too much. It went from believable to over the top. On that note, some of the CG locations were also a bit over the top. I realize that we are in a non-existent world, but I would like to have seen some more real locations or believable soundstages (like when Lucy first enters Narnia in LWW). However, the very last scene at the edge of Aslan's country, is visually stunning. Undoubtly the most effective in the entire film (and it needed to be).

Visual effects looked pretty good. Overall the CG characters looked believable. At first, I wasn't sure on Eustace as a dragon. His eyeballs seemed a bit bulgy, but I'm liking it a bit more now. It's not the typical ferocious looking eyes of a dragon, but more human which makes us really have a connection knowing a boy is inside those scales, not a dragon.

The main issue I had with the film was the green mist. It's very prescence is an insult to my intelligence. We know the characters are being tempted without the green mist. You don't need it, you see it once, you get it. Every time I just had to shout out "we get it, the audience is intelligent, we get it!". I would have been okay if the mist just appeared at Dark Island. There it at least has a sense of eerieness and has an unerstandable prescence. Everywhere else, it's just nonsense.

On the topic of insults. I did like the inclusion of Pauline Baynes illustrations with the credits. This feeling however quickly grew into irritation. I feel it's an insult to include the beautiful illustration work of the books with a mediocre version of a film. The two should in no way be connected.

Ultimately, there are elements that work in VDT. It is nowhere near PC or LWW, but parts do work (I'll give it some credit). Overall though, it's just a 'meh' film. Not as memorable as its predecessors.

I must admit, the more I watch it, the more I am forigiving of it's flaws. I love the final scene especially, although the book is better on all counts (to be expected). I don't think they'll mess up the rest of the movies as much since VOTDT out of all the others didn't really have a villian or a connecting plot. Here's hoping anyway.

On another note, what do you think of this? If/when they film the Horse and His Boy (I assume it will be the final film, if at all) they refilm the final scene of LW&W with the original actors, since they will finally all be grown up by then.

My perspective from a guy who hasn't read the books. Dawn Treader was just ok. It was kinda a disappointment because I thought that Prince Caspian was a great sequel. There were somethings that I really liked but there is almost an equal amount of things that really annoyed me.

The Good
Tonal Shift- One of the things I like the most about the Narnia films is that each movie has a different tone. This movie was certainly the lightest of the three and I feel that was the best direction to go in after the dark Prince Caspian. Dawn Treader felt like a fun adventure compared to the magical yet serious fairy tale of LWW and the cynical return of PC.

Eustace- Will Poulter stole every scene he was in. He's definitely my favorite out of all the the young actors in the series and I think he has a huge career ahead of him. Eustace's jerktitude provided some the best comedic moments in the series. The friendship with Reepicheep was well done and the best parts of the film were when those to were on screen together.

Lucy- I liked her arc about her jealousy of Susan. It really shows how much she looks up to her older sister and how that admiration can unfortunately be twisted into something ugly. Plus it show that Lucy has problems and insecurities like her older siblings.

Good action scenes- The fight at the Lone Islands was really fun and the battle with the serpent was also really well done. Plus Lucy finally gets her level up in butt kicking.

The Ending- The movie provided great closure to the "Pevensie Trilogy." Dawn Treader's emotional ending was a good contrast to Prince Caspian's more stoic one. Peter and Susan might not have been returning but the audience still had another adventure with Edmund and Lucy to look forward to. VDT was truly an end of an era and it was very wise of the film makers to save the emotion for this movie because that last of the original protagonists are moving on.

The Bad
Nothing is explained- Where did the green mist come from? If the 7 swords were made in the golden age, why didn't the Pevensies know about them? If Alsan's Table isn't The Stone Table then what is it? Why would the seven swords stop the mist? Explain movie explain!

Green Mist- I've been told the book is very episodic and the Mist was added to make the story flow better on screen. The change would be all fine and dandy but the Green Mist was really uninspired. It just seemed really weak after the White Witch and Miraz. We get no explanation on why it's there and honestly, it's not threatening in the slightest. The worst part is that it removes all subtleties from the temptations. I don't need a special effect to tell me when a character is struggling with somethings.

Edmund- Skandar's acting was fine but I didn't like his character arc. His story almost seemed like a retread of Peter's in the last movie. Instead of doing the "I'm the king" again, Edmund should have been used to explore guilt. Seeing visions of the witch would bring back painful memories. Ed would never rejoin the witch so the mist should have brought his guilt back to the surface. On a more satirical note Edmund should have wished for The Stay Putf Marshmellow Man to kill them instead of the sea serpent. Now that would be a movie.

White Witch was wasted- She had a great appearance in PC and that scene was my favorite part of the movie. The only thing she did here was annoy Edmund. She wasn't menacing and there really wasn't a reason to bring her back. If they developed Edmund like I wished they did than she probably would have been awesome.

Sleeping Dragon, that was an excellent post. I can't come at the movies from the angle you're coming from because I know the books backwards and forwards. It's really very interesting to see your thoughts on the movie. They echo my own, but I couldn't be sure if I was judging the movie as a movie, or as it compared with the book.

I know I'm late to the party, but wanted to add my two cents:

When I saw the movie in December, I went home and cried. VDT is my favorite book ever, and I was so horrendously disappointed. I just don't understand the point of taking a beautiful masterpiece and turning it into something...else.

I did like Eustace, and was pleasantly surprised that they kept Aslan's well-known quote in the end, but that's about it.

I think at one point I actually fell asleep.

I keep coming back to these because of my love for the books, but this movie and PC are missing everything that made me love the books.

Ok, so, for Voyage of the Dawn Treader I knew that when I went to see it that it was probably going to be mediocre at best. Why? Because Fox studios was making it, and though I give them kudos for trying their best, my respect for that studio kind of went down the toilet after Eragon. 8-| Going into the theatre, my main concern was that they were going to do a HORRIBLE job with Eustace's actor, because Eustace is one of my favorite characters and I know for a fact that acting out a bratty kid that's still somewhat likeable is a very, very hard thing to do.

Happily I can report that they did NOT botch the job when they chose the actor for Eustace. He was BRILLIANT, and he pulled off Eustace perfectly throughout the ENTIRE film. :D Not only that, but the relationship between Eustace and Reepicheep was also spot on. I even cried along with Eustace at the end when Reepicheep left them. That, and the scene that followed them, made the entire film for me.

Now as for the REST of the film...>_> Again, very mediocre. I liked the dufflepuds (because they were hilarious), the beginning because it was taken straight from the book, the scene in Goldwater Island because it was true to the tone of the book, and I liked the scene where everyone was captured at the Lone Islands because, again, IT WAS LIKE THE BOOK. I'm not going to even comment on the rest of the film. 8-|

I still really enjoy this movie very much indeed regardless of what some of you others might think and I think it´s mostly due to the whole scenery of the sea, the different islands, nature, views, lights, visual treats, etc. It just comes alive in a really fantastic way that I feel I really want to be a part of and experience over and over. I love the sea, the boat (boats)archipelagos and islands in general so this movie is perfect for me!

Better than PC, but not as good as LWW.

I know this movie got panned by many fans but I am a massive fan of the sea, sailing, ships etc - so, from my point of view, it was very exciting to watch. I loved the Dawn Treader - amazing detail.

Compared with Prince Caspian which took me several watches before it really grew on me, this was an instant hit.

They did deviate from the book somewhat but certainly the way they used Eustace with leaving him left in dragon form a lot longer actually worked for the movie. It made the battle much more exciting and helped warm you to Eustace's character better.

Will Poulter was just amazing as Eustace. Fantastic job.

My biggest gripe with the movie is Prince Caspian's accent because he spoke with a Spanish accent for PC and they decided not to continue with that for VDT which doesn't work from a continuity point of view. So I wish that hadn't been changed because it does spoil it a little when you watch the movies back-to-back.

Worst Narnia film yet! And to be perfectly honest, it was one of the least favorite of all the films I've seen.

I had read short reviews of the film before I saw it and I was sure they wouldn't change VDT too much. But I was wrong.

I liked everything up to the Lone Islands. It was smooth sailing and then the rough seas came. The Magician was too creepy and monotone. In the book, I really liked him. Dufflepuds:Great!

Everything dealing with the green mist, Gael, and the 7 swords I hated! Ramandu's Island was too dark. I expected Aslan's Table to be longer.

Even though I hated the mist, I did like Dark Island a lot. Great looks on the outside. I really did like the Sea Serpent. Probably the best special effect in all the Narnia films! Very freaky but loved it! I wish I could have seen it in 3D...

I DO NOT like that Caspian came with them to the End of the World. The book is very clear why he doesn't. I absolutely LOVED the lillies! Even though it was brief, it was so wonderful!

I really love the part of the book where Aslan appears as a lamb and then a lion. I'm dissapointed they cut that but it wasn't too big of a deal. The standing wave was awesome! Great CGI!

I'm so glad they didn't change the "other name" line. The most emotional part of the movie. I admit, I cried. :(( Bedroom scene was great! Very true to the book (except for the Jill part).

I really wanted to love this movie as I've loved the other films. But I can not forgive the film makers for changing the story. I'm losing faith in Douglas Gresham and Walden... :(

Over all, 2.97 stars out of 5.

It was great.

That being said, it wasn't as good as LWW (I really dont think they can top that) and it was WAY better then PC.

All in All... Greatness
