-How good was the film?
And yes, I did enjoy it. After walking out of the theatre I was near trembling just because of the sheer rapture of seeing parts of my special Narnia come to life before my eyes!
[...]
-How good was it in comparison to PC and LWW?
I liked it better than PC
[...]
I think LWW was better than VOTDT, it was definitely more accurate, and I still think it was terrific and the best out of the three yet.

I, too, finally saw VoDT today, and I completely agree with Kira, particularly on that first paragraph I quoted.

Unlike Prince Caspian, but like LWW, I got the "Narnia" feeling from watching the movie. "Rapture" (or "enraptured") was a great way to put it.

Overall, even with the changes (which I could pretty much live with), I thought it was an excellent film. Not quite on par with LWW, but almost.

I was sick for a month and almost missed seeing it, but finally got to see it! I feel Dawn Treader was much better than PC, but not as good as LWW. That being said, I still think it's a great movie. The magic of the first one is back which is what I felt was missing in PC. Certain scenes with Eustace and Aslan really tugged on my emotions. I'm always impressed when a film can make me shed tears.
Overall it just made me feel happy inside and renewed my faith. It's so hard to explain, but I felt wonderful after seeing it. Aslan's words were beautiful and powerful. The visual effects were done well. Overall it's great. Go see it if you haven't.

How good was the film?-Well i don't Know what anyone else has siad but I absoulutely adored the DT and i liked it the best of them yet.

How does it compare with LWW & PC ?- Well, i don't Know about you but i hated PC & i enjoyed LWW. I really liked this one and thuoght it was the best. Still the LWW was almost an even match. I didn't think that gorgie henly over acted and i thought that Will Poulters just put the icing on the cake. thats my point of view and i hope you agree with me.

My vote: "Better than PC, but not as good as LWW."

I felt that LWW had a certain undefinable something that expressed the wonder of being in Narnia. The scenes expanded from upclose shots of the wardrobe to the sweeping battle scenes. It was a good adaptation. the kids and the beavers had some great one-liners. The white witch was fantastically evil. Her every word, her every twitch exuded a desperate need for power. The things they added were true to the characters. For example, the white witch wearing Aslan's mane in the battle.

PC was a disappointment. Caspian as an adult ruined the film. It makes sense that a kid wouldn't know the history about his father, but for an adult to have never figured it out would not a great king make. I felt that the characters of Trumpkin and Reepicheep were kept reasonably intact. But I did not like what they did with either Susan or Peter's characters. Peter getting in a fist fight back home/ sparring with Caspian in Narnia then Susan becoming a flirt so much earlier than she does so in the books. The fight scenes appeared lifted out of LoTR while Caspian's accent seemed lifted from Princess Bride. Both excellent stories but pieces of neither belonged in Narnia.

VDT: Perhaps because my expectations were so low, I found myself liking it. Eustace had funny lines and said them with perfect comedic timing. They developed Lucy and Edmund's characters in ways much more in keeping with the book. For example Edmund wanting Peter's sword but then later polishing one of the seven swords. I adored the ship, the background music and the costumes. I was pleased that they didn't over-do the romance between Caspian and Ramandu's daughter. The scene with Lucy Edmund, Eustace and the painting had a similar magic to the scenes with Lucy and the Wardrobe in LWW. But after that the wow factor of exploration that I saw in LWW was missing. I also didn't like that the White Witch appeared to Edmund. Tilda Swenson was inspired in LWW. Her reappearance made sense in PC as they were calling her. But in VDT no one had called her.

In summary - By putting in a great Eustace, leaving Lucy and Edmund's character's in tact, treating Caspian's romance with Ramandu's daughter respectfully and through not as obviously lifting from other fantasy VDT got a higher rating from me than PC. However, the gratuitous appearance of the white witch and the lack of exploration kept me from liking it as much as I liked LWW.

I think you have some good points. I was thinking about this yet again /:) and the "wow factor of exploration" would have let me really love VDT if it had been in there. Also I only think I had a few times of feeling
'Narnia wonderment"...most all of the Eustace and Reep scenes (dragon and not-dragon), the painting scene, the Dawn Treader at sea, and most especially at the end with the wall of water. Everything else felt a bit belaboured, cliche, and half-baked.

LWW had some great scenes where you felt the wonderment and peril/danger....the melting of the snow and spring coming, Lucy/Peter/Susan running from the wolves/frozen river scene, Aslan's sacrifice. Not many scenes of equivalent import were in VDT. The relationships between characters weren't as fully developed either and that would have given this more heart as LWW had.

Finally saw it... I don't know I think they're all pretty much on par with one another. I'm honestly not crazy about any of them... I was saying earlier that I think I liked it better than PC but not as much as LWW... but now thinking about it, I think I liked it better than LWW. Which again is not really saying much, I wasn't a fan of any of the movies.

The saving grace of this film that put it out just a nose hair ahead of LWW was the last 10 minutes. I did really love the last 10 minutes of this one. I felt like in the book, that scene was the climax. It was really built up.... it was the climax of what was basically a sea exploration voyage and nothing more. So I loved the ending in the book. In the movie, there's a lot they messed around with. My expectations were so low though I don't think it bothered me much cause you couldn't really have any lower expectations for it... Anyway... the ending didn't have the impact that it did in the book because it wasn't the climax in the movie. However, the scene by itself was pretty good. They got the feeling, tone, and look and everything was pretty like I'd imagined it. This was something I thought was completely lacking in key parts from the other movies (Aslan's resurrection for example... wasn't majestic, powerful or anything... it just kind of happened). Here I thought they had everything for the scene pretty much right aside from Aslan not being a lamb or whatever. I liked how they hid Aslan's country just above the wave, show you a glimpse and then cover it. Excellent! The lilies on the water were beautiful. The wave was great. Best scene out of the whole movie series so far where Aslan appeared. It had the tone, the feeling, and wonder that was in the book. I just wish it was led into better so you actually care about the ending when it comes. And I wish it was a little longer... And I liked how the kids went back home where they turned around and then the wave kind of circles around. That was cool.

Other than that, it's nothing to write home about. It wasn't a very faithful adaption but that really wouldn't have mattered to me much if they had gotten the point correct instead of focusing it on swords and green mist. LWW was pretty faithful but it was just so miss on all the key parts and just the whole tone and feeling just wasn't really there. It was probably a directing thing with that one. I think a better director would have been able to work the same script much better. But anyway... PC... meh.. there are some parts it got right here and there but over all... just meh.

Yeah, I don't care if they make a SC really... I think the whole series needs to be rebooted IMO. They're decent but I think these could be done so much better. And I don't mean more faithful adaptions per se... just getting the key parts right and getting the main points of the stories correct without shifting them to the side. But I did like the ending this time around.

I think the film is good.
It's fairly close to the book, the main events are there. Some a bit altered, yes, but still there. I especially like the themes of temptation, self-discovery and faith.
It's very good to see it more than once! The first time I liked it, but was also a little confused about the changes, and additions. The second time I really liked it. I enjoyed the growing relationship between Reepicheep and Eustace. That's brilliantly done!
If I did the film a few things would be different. The film is still good, though, with good moral values as well!! It deserves to be supported.

I'll encourage everyone to keep supporting the film. This is essential, if we want to see the Silver Chair.
The film is still in cinemas, also in the US. Keep supporting it: See it several times, recommend it to others, write on the internet, facebook etc. Together we fans can make a difference!

I think it was good, better than PC but not as good as LWW.

The script seemed weak much of the time, I think that's my biggest complaint.
Some differences from the book I actually liked (the sea serpent being associated with the dark island being one of them), but then there were some differences that just didn't add anything good to the movie at all.

To its credit, I felt they stayed true to the main themes, and there weren't any HUGE changes from the book that changed anyone's character, like in PC.
And there were some beautiful visual effects as well!

When I went to watch it I was really excited! After all, I'd waited all year for this! When they started to mess up the order of the islands and add an actual 'save Narnia from another great evil' kind of thing my heart dropped to my toes. How could they do that!? Why is it so hard to use the script right in front of you? But then, as I was watching it unfold, I got to thinking how spiritual it is. At first the mist seemed kind of lame, but the temptation was wonderful, and I did like the scene when Lucy turns into Susan and realizes how important she is, but at the same time I wanted to jump into the screen and shake her! "You are the GREATEST Pevensie of all! The most beautiful, the cutest, most down to earth, loyal, trusting, everyone's favorite! How can you be so mean to yourself!" Of course Aslan did a much better job than I would have! I did though, enjoy Lucy more as a little girl. She gave her best performance in PC and as a child she is much more faithful and sweet. I am a little disappointed in the less 'Valient' way she was protrayed this time but I'm sure even Lucy has to learn to love herself as a teen.
Edmund's portrayal was just a good. He didn't quite seem as Edmund-like though. It just didn't feel right. I don't know, I like his performance in PC the best.
Eustace was quite what I expected him to be. He had a bit of a pig-like face (no offence Will!), his skinny stature made him seem puny and quite child-like compared to Edmund or Caspian. And I absolutely loved his facial expressions when Edmund turned on him! The fights between Reepicheep were equally amusing. As a dragon, I think it could have been better, and though it wouldn't have worked with their plot, I like the idea of Aslan healing him in the book better. Some of his more serious lines, I liked because of the message behind them. His fainting period was a bit too modern movieish but funny all the same.
As for Caspian, I liked his new look, it made him seem older and more like a Narnian king. The loss of his accent was a bit odd, you started with it, you may as well keep it. His and Edmund's fight was portrayed less Nania-like than in the book, but it was fine.
It was definately a good movie, I loved it, but the complete change of plot was disappointing.
All in all I have two things to say;
Peter and Susan are gone, don't try to replace them with Lucy and Edmund.
And please, keep up the humor, and christian doctrine, but stick to the book next time!

Ready to defend this land,
My heart may quake, my spirit shake,
But You will never fail,

I love your adaptation of the quote smartypie, :D
I agree that the movie had its bad points, but I like to look at the good points. It is very sad what they did with the movie, though :((

I saw it three times and I have to say I liked it. It is for me te weakest adaptation and the sheer speed of the movie's pace really lost that sense of wonder and "exploring the unknown" feeling that pervaded every single chapter in the book, but the characters were spot on. Eustace was extremely well developed and the other characters all had their moments where I fell they were the cahracters from the book. Sure some suffered of obfuscating moments of stupidity, but the good outweighted the bad... ever so slightly. I'm impressed with the visual effects, they were pretty smooth considering the huge budget cut from PC.

I would say this is the weakest adaptation, but if you are able to overlook its flaws you will find enjoyment in it. Though I really wished the film focused more on exploring this huge, enigmatic and untamed world rather than saving the world... again.

But despise this, I still liked the film, but Wardrobe and Caspian are still better. Now I'm waiting for the Blu-Ray and extended cut.
