one thing I have noticed is that while to me it looks as if there isn't much information on VotDT getting out to the public, I keep having people come up to me saying that they have seen the trailer on various channels on TV and online and they are not even Narnia freaks like us ( ) and they sound excited! so I am sure of this movie doing well! but it's up to us, the Narnia freaks, so get the word out!

Regarding cast appearances at the VDT premieres, I noticed Ben Barnes's schedule for the London play Birdsong isn't pretty. It will definitely interfere with VDT this December!
^ I saw that about two days ago and thought the same thing, but I'm sure he can schedule interviews, etc during his breaks when he gets away from the play. Also Ben will probably get some vacation days in December.

I agree. I think we can help make this movie do well at the box office with a little word-of-mouth. Grassroots marketing is the best. Until recently I haven't been sure whether or not I wanted to push this film, because I don't want a poorly done Dawn Treader to do well at the box office. I'm sure I'm not alone. However, a couple of months ago I decided to have faith in the movie one more time and to push it. So yeah, now I bring up VDT whenever I can. For instance: I post little messages on Facebook whenever I get an achievement on Narnia.com. Little bits like that help keep the anticipation alive.
Also, I haven't seen anyone mention this website yet, but Grace Hill Media launched narniafaith.com a while back and is allowing certain church leaders access to the VDT teaser to show to their congregations. This movie could do really well if churches get behind it. I'm glad that Fox hired Grace Hill Media to help with the marketing. They did a good job with LWW.

I would understand him being too busy to promote VDT because of Birdsong but I think if any actor can pull it off Ben can. He seems to be good at juggling projects.
He made it to the world premiere of Dorian Gray while he was still shooting VDT and he was at the premiere for Easy Virtue while he was shooting Dorian gray. The day before the Dorian Gray premiere he was in Australia doing an interview.

I am not worried about whether Ben will be able to help promote VDT. I will understand if he can't do it but I wouldn't put it past him to try.
I wouldn't be worried either - like all actors he will be contractually obliged to promote the film. They can't get out of it.
General rule of thumb that I was taught in college... when it comes to advertising... the budget is approximately half of the budget for making the film. So if the film cost $150 million to make, it has an marketing budget of $75 million on top of that. It's one of the reasons that movies have to make more than their budget to break even.
With PC, we got dumped on marketing wise. Things came out in overwhelming clumps. Then it would go down to absolutely nada and then it would start all over again up until close to the release and then it never stopped. We knew what they changed, how they changed, and in what order everything was before we ever set foot in the theater. That's how much info they handed us.
With LWW, it was a slow leak that slowly increased combined with product placement in the stores. It slowly increased and built up with more information coming out the closer we got and there were still a few surprises on screen when we got to the theater.
VDT seems to be doing something similar to LWW. Slow and steady with a small build up. I suspect we'll see a noticeable increase once the second trailer comes out. It may be slower, but I would rather have a slow buildup with more information available for the casual surfer to keep the general public interested than PC's version.
By the middle/end of October, i'm sure we'll have multiple news stories a day.

Ben and Birdsong ... I'm not thinking of interviews. I'm thinking of premiers. And it's easy to show up for a premiere during shooting of a film. The latter doesn't happen at night often, does it?
Sept 18-Jan 15 = Mon-Sat, 7:30pm
Dec 20-23 = Mon-Thurs, 7:30pm
Dec 27-30, Jan 1 = Mon-Thurs, 7:30pm
What will Ben be doing on December 10? At 7:30pm? Birdsong! So what time will the world premiere of VDT be? Earlier or later than 7:30? Ben can't appear in two places at once, can he? And what about VDT premieres in New York and other cities, possibly on a Friday?
And let's not forget the Royal Film Premiere in November. The same goes for it. Will these VDT showings be in the afternoon or evening?
^ I seriously don't think Birdsong is going to get in the way with Ben promoting VDT. Ben's a real tough cookie i agree with AslanIsOnTheMove

That particular premier, if it is a Royal one, will be timed to Her Majesty's schedule. Or whichever Royal member plans to be present. I should imagine there would be plenty, as C.S.Lewis and his Narnia books are something UK is truly proud about despite the criticisms. Just go to Oxford or Cambridge.
In fact, this is the premier Ben Barnes will definitely attend if contracts go the way you say they do. A Royal premier is It!
And I don't see there is going to be a problem. Actors do have to work, and theatre work provides steadier income than filming. But actors who perform in theatre shows generally have understudies who fill in on those occasions when there is a clash of appointments like this one. The production company of Birdsong will benefit from any good publicity directed at Ben Barnes, such as attendance at a Royal Premier of a well-loved classic he has filmed in, so will probably give him leave for that night.
what I say is that we all need to plan on seeing VotDT at the theater at at least three times (three times being the minimum) if possible! we need to get the word out and support this movie to the best of our ability!

So far, I'm not too worried about Fox's decision to keep VDT relatively quiet at this point. I wish the trailer was a little less random, since that's the only major promotional thing that's out there at this point, but that's for another thread. If they throw all of their promotional budget into it from late October to through December, I think that the film will fare better in the box office because it will be fresh in everybody's minds. I think VDT has the potential to be extremely well received, if they just will get the word out well enough without making people tired of it before it ever hits the theaters. At this stage in the game, I'm feeling pretty positive.

I agree, I do not think it will get in the way of VDT. I mean come on do you think they would have a premire without one of the main actors being there. Plus he will get vacation days or they will let him go to the premires. So I am not worried. As of Fox, I really do not know why we have not had a lot of news, but lets just hope that soon we will see an increase of VDT promotion!!!!
Now that I think about it when movies release TV Spots 3 to 4 months prior to the film's release, I, personally, am so used to seeing advertisements for the movie that I actually completely forget about it after a while! I'm still not worried just yet...
