I was looking at some of the Movie News posts from February 2008, 3 months before Prince Caspian's release, and we were learning about Narnia board games, action figures, video games, educator's guides, pre-screening reviews and rumors, widgets. By the beginning of March, we had heard about the soundtrack, and promotional pictures, and behind the scenes videos galore were released!
Here we are now at the beginning of September, 3 months away from Voyage of the Dawn Treader's release, and the biggest piece of news we have seen is the interview with Tony Nixon, which gave us a good insight on how filming was completed, the costumes, battle scenes, etc.
I am a little worried. For one, maybe I am just extremely bored and want to get some more news about this film, but I also think that Fox's decision to quietly market the Voyage of the Dawn Treader will negatively affect it when the movie is released. Are we not hearing as much about the film because we were so used to Disney's marketing, and now it seems as if we are not getting as much because of the way Fox markets it's films. What do you think? Will we get a sudden explosion of news within the next few weeks, or will that explosion come after the movie's release?
"I'm a beast I am, and a Badger what's more. We don't change. We hold on. I say great good will come of it... And we beasts remember, even if Dwarfs forget, that Narnia was never right except when a son of Adam was King." -Trufflehunter
Maybe they're worried that people that don't like Narnia will comment or say something that will make it look like they're trying too hard to make it a success. I don't know...that's a pretty lame excuse.
"Are you sure you're eighteen?"
"Why? Do I look older?"
Fox only has so much money to spend marketing this film, so they are probably just waiting to do most of the marketing during the last month before the film is released. That way when it comes out it will be on people's minds.

We have had a interview/set report from ComingSoon last week (only part I for the moment). Just wait a month, i bet a lot is coming our way.
I think Fox knows what they are doing. I am not worried. I really would like some new information though!

I am not worried about Fox getting the word out. They know how to make themselves heard when they're good and ready. Look at Avatar.
The marketing budget for Avatar was $150 million (in addition to the $237 million production budget).... By most accounts VDT barely even had a production budget of $150 million.... Its not really in the same league.
How much money was spent on marketing in the last 2 movies?
Seeking comic book artist, PM for details.
I am almost glad they have less money because now hopefully they are thinking about making a movie that has heart instead of one that is just spectacular and epic.

Ok. I see your point. Error on my part. What can I say? I'm not a movie Guru just a Narnia freak
One thing you are most definitely right on Trufflehunter is that yes it is the beginning of September, just three more months til the movie! About just 90 more days to go. I think Fox does advertise their films differently, but on the bright side we got the score news today so we know it's almost finished and soon we'll get soundtrack news. I think PC had short time to advertise as well as making a lot of money from the first film were able to advertise the movie on monopoly games, etc.
I really hope we see another trailer soon. Tonight I saw a TV spot for Harry Potter, so maybe at the end of this month we'll get some TV Spots for VODT, better yet a new trailer for when Prince Of Persia comes out on DVD. In October we are getting some books from the film. But it sure does feel like a very long time

Funny thing about marketing: sometimes you can spend as much as you want, but if you don't spend wisely, it won't do any good.
The LA Times article from two years ago mentioned the marketing budget for PC was $150 million. The film didn't exactly take the box office by storm, did it? I never even saw a TV commercial for it. The super-trailer came out after the film...sometimes only half the cast showed up at the premiers...what a mess.
I think Fox/Walden are waiting until closer to the film's release to pump up awareness. That's fine by me.
And speaking of Avatar, isn't the next DVD release of that film in November? Fox may have some tie-in with VDT --- you never know.
I think toning the marketing back is a good idea, as long as the marketing from now on is great. There's also a good chance that they're trying to finish all the sound-mixing and score etc. before they release the next trailer, so we have a better trailer, one more representative of the final product.
Currently watching:
Doctor Who - Season 11
My guess is that the final trailer will be released with Harry Potter, about 3 weeks before the movie comes out.

I've still got hopes for VDT. It seems it is to get a Royal premiere. Probably in the same theatre that the Harry Potter films are usually released, near Edgeware Road. That is really something.
What would make the difference for me 100% is to see a 2011 VDT calendar for sale, which I haven't seen yet, not even on Internet. I know it is a relatively cheap sort of thing to have. But something that is worth holding onto for a whole year would be great, and would be definitely a good way to market the film.
