Now I personally think that SC has enormous cinematic potential, and I would much rather see that next. Jill and Eustace are so relatable. With good marketing casual fans could really latch on to them. There might even be a demand for Silver Chair 2.
As for fans as a whole, however, I'd would say that we're pretty mixed. Some prefer MN, some prefer SC. Others don't care, either because they've lost all faith in the film franchise, or because their delighted to have any Narnia film at all.
If aging is not a problem I don't care if it is MN or SC next, except for a small regret that we don't get to see more Eustace right away, along with the fact that auditions for Jill would be later. So I really don't have a good reason. If there is hope for SC w/ Will P. later, then I can look forward to MN and someday maybe they'll do SC.
If they get around to making The Silver Chair, I would expect them to recast Eustace. There is an upsode and a downside to this. The obvious downside is that we'd lose a fabulous actor, but the upside is that the characters could be younger.
I am really happy that Walden is thinking about making MN next, because It is my second favorite book (behind HHB). Also I'm glad to get out of WWII, which was supposed to be over by VDT (If you don't believe me, read the first chapter, third paragraph of VDT). It will be so refreshing to see younger children in Victorian England, instead of teens in london during WWII.
I'll admit at first I was so mad to hear Silver Chair was not the next film to be made. It's my second favorite book and I was getting so excited and determined to see it very soon and to see Will Poulter return and couldn't wait to see who Jill Pole's actress was going to be, see if they were going to age Ben Barnes as King Caspian, see any further development of Caspian and Lilliandil's romantic relationship, who is our dark knight? Is he handsome like his father Caspian? , show people that WW is not lady of Green Kirtle by having a new actress cast as a new witch.... I was getting so excited by these thoughts then I read someones post on here...
Thoughts of Jilstace? NOOOO!!!!!!!! That would break my heart more than the added Caspian/Susan attraction, no way! CS Lewis stated at the end of Silver Chair that Jill and Eustace remained as always friends. That would go against the book if they added such a romance between them, just no okay.
But no i'm really happy now about Magician's Nephew beng made. We never got to see this story ever adapted to screen so I'm greatful that we will see it adapted. I also wouldn't mind a Digory/Polly as long as the relationship is kept like Leslie/Jess in Bridge To Terabithia. I do want to see a strong bond between Digory and Polly. I want to see some background history of Charn and yes this includes flashbacks, I think it would be interesting to see. Charn always fascinated me when I read this book.
Magician's Nephew will be awesome and will possibly blow LWW out of the water f adapted well and it will I believe if the production is putting a lot of passion into this as they are.
I believe Will Poulter will return as Eustace. It's amazing what sound mixing can do now a days. Get a bigger actor for Puddleglum (Benedict Cumberbatch, pleasssse!) give Will longer bangs and lots of powder, he'll look like younger Eustace again.
Long Live King Caspian & Queen Liliandil Forever!

I'm intrigued to see how they do MN. As others have said its fresh material and in some ways lends itself really well to film. The atticway between the houses mirroring the Wood between the Worlds and so on. Between the two and how I think they are going to spin SC (carrying over the green mist, inappropriate cameos from the WW, and blue glow from VDT) I prefer to see MN. As in if they had made SC next I would very strongly consider not seeing it whereas MN, I want to see.

The most important thing is that another one is made, but I would definitely prefer SC to be made next - because of Will Poulter, and because I think they should do it in the correct order.

As a matter of interest, which order is that? If Will Poulter as Eustace was not a consideration, if you were deciding what order to film them in, and if none of the films had been made yet, which order would you film them in?
^ That is a very interesting question waggawerewolf. To be honest if i was directing this franchise I would have started off with The Magician's Nephew. And intsead of going into hhb after lww i would have done it after SC and go into LB. But that's just me.
So it would be in this order if I was in charge of filming:
1. MN
2. LWW
3. PC
4. VDT
5. SC
6. HHB
7. LB

Of course I would prefer the Silver Chair next. Not only is it my favorite book, but the making the Magician's Nephew next pretty much destroys any sense of order.
so if the films somehow make money the order will be Magician's Nephew, The Silver Chair, the Horse and His Boy, and the Last Battle.
That's going from Narnia's creation, forward thousans of years during the later period of Caspian's reign, back thousands of years to the period inbetween the last two chapters of LWW, and then forward thousands of years during the end of the world.
The causal audience (if any still exist), will be completly confused. I think even book fans are getting confused.
And truth be told, I'm sick of Tilda. She was great in LWW, her appearance in PC was one of the film's highpoints, but Voyage of the Dawn Treader was overkill and made the character more repetitive than threatening.
Winter Is Coming
Well... if you think about it Lewis jumped around the timeline to an equally extreme extent. The first four books were in chronological order and then the books, like the movies, jumped.
I agree with you about being sick of Tilda Swinton though and I think that's a real shame.
I was one of the wierd ones who wanted MN next before it was even seriously considered that anything but SC would be next. Even taking into account Will Poulters aging (non)issue.
Using the 'jumping around' the timeline as an argument against MN next makes no sense to me, because even if you make SC next, as some point you will have to jump back in the timeline anyways to make MN.. unless Walden and Fox plan to skip it, which we know they wouldn't (unless they ran out of money).
Speaking of money, I dont see why its such a bad thing that MN is being made first 'because of the money'. Unlike super franchises like Harry Potter and LOTR, Narnia isnt a cash cow and is literally living paycheck to paycheck. You need money to make more films. MN will hopefully provide this. Its more likely to be profitable than SC. After all, making big budget movies isnt a charity operation.

Damsel, I do agree that I would have been MUCH more in favor of the chronological order . . but unfortunately, it's too late for that.

Okay, first off let me explain with this thread is not: it is not a place to discuss whether or not Magician's Nephew would make more/less money than Silver Chair. It is not a place to say how the franchise is doing, etc. This thread is purely to get answers to this question: Is it true that most fans want SC over MN to be made next?
Yes, the majority definitly want SC next. In our poll, approximately 80% voted SC over MN.
It makes me wonder what exactly Flaherty meant when he said he valued the views of the "Narnia police" the most.
As a matter of interest, which order is that? If Will Poulter as Eustace was not a consideration, if you were deciding what order to film them in, and if none of the films had been made yet, which order would you film them in?
Well... What I'd probably end up doing is combining them all and then splitting it up into parts like the Hobbit or HP7... as for the order...
1) LWW (except the last chapter)
2) HHB (and the last chapter of LWW)
3) MN (told as a flashback)
4) PC
5) VDT
6) SC
7) LB
Not exactly the most conventional order... but the more I think about it, the more I like it

Well the majority on NW do, but I think if you ask the mainstream... more general audience type fans (ie those not on a fansite) you'll find they give a very different answer. I wonder though... what would the results of that poll be now? Would they be the same or different?

what really seems strange to me is this: at the end of VotDT, they made two huge hints that SC was coming - or so I thought. in the end of LWW and PC, there are only subtle hints: in LWW, one has to wait for the hidden scene when Lucy talks to the Professor to hear that there's another story coming. and then they did PC. in PC, one has to listen to Regina Spektor's song and hear the lyrics "I'll come back when you call me" when Lucy looks at Aslan one last time. then they did VotDT. both of these hints are very subtle and don't pop out in any drastic form. but in the end of VotDT, they first have Eustace ask Aslan if he can come back (and that's not in the book so it's an even bigger hint) and then there's the Jill Pole name drop at the end when they are back in Lucy's bedroom. two obvious hints! so I naturally assumed that SC would follow VotDT because they have always made hints and been true to those hints in the past. that's why I am like "what?" at the news we have been hearing about MN. I think SC would do well next, even if it only does well because everyone likes Will Poulter.
just my two cents!
