I prefer to see this extract in terms of WW2. I've been given a book for Christmas called Chronicles of World War 2. It relates the stories of the Rats of Tobruk, who put up such a brave defence of Tobruk against Rommel, also known as 'The Desert Fox'. It also tells of the so-called 'Chockos' on the Kokoda Trail - brave, barely trained troops like the 39th and the 53rd battalions, who slowed down the Japanese advance through Papua Niugini, though Douglas MacArthur didn't like them much. And there is a third section about Nancy Wake, born in New Zealand, who played a prominent part in the War Effort. She was code named 'The White Mouse' at that time. Now she is a real example of an extraordinary person to whom extraordinary things happened.

Maybe Reepicheep is right. Not everyone gets turned into a dragon and not everyone eventually gets undragonned. Besides it consoled Eustace and that is all that mattered at the time. As C.S.Lewis says, a crying dragon is a sight to behold.

It is very different from the sort of thing Lewis or Tolkien would write.
But, for me, it gave the movie a sense of realism. That was actually one of the only scenes in the movie that seemed real to me. I guess that's because, if I was in Reep's place, I would have said the exact same thing to Eustace.

I liked the line, and I don't think it's a big deal either. I think it worked well in the context, and I doubt it was meant to say that what Eustace had done before was good. Reep rarely doesn't make sense to me throughout the movie, and that's definitely not an exception.

I didn't notice it much in the theater, I was too busy taking in the details of the dragon itself. Now that I think about it, it was just a little... forced, kind of. But it didn't stick out as terrible or anything. It was a line that I think can be overlooked.

I agree I thought it a very movie cliche line to use. Reep might even have said 'special things happen to special people'....which is practically the same meaning anyway. The scriptwriters just had Reep use a longer word to try to disguise that it's really a very cliche line. And he was definitely trying to make
Dragon-Eustace feel better. I viewed this line as the scriptwriters' shortcut of condensing what Reep told Dragon-Eustace in the book about how very famous and successful people who fell into the most distressing of circumstances recovered from them.

During my first viewing, I didn't even notice the line just because I was admiring the look of the scene, which I thought was perfect. Of course, that is no excuse for the line all the same - during repeat viewings, the line greatly annoyed me, as it ruined what I had thought was a perfectly adapted scene from the book.

Dawn Treader had terrible dialogue in general.

"Oh, that mansion!"
"We did it! I knew we could."
"When you grow up, you should be just like you."
"Our darkest dreams...our worst nightmares..."
"It seeks to corrupt all goodness...to steal the light from this world!"
"I'm a boy again!"
...you get the point.

^^ Agreed. The dialogue was terrible. The "I'm a Boy Again" line especially annoyed me. Kind of funny they copy a line from a Disney cartoon after Disney is no longer producing...

I think it is the best of all the movies thus far!

Look, for me, as a Christian, this quote does not only seem stupid, but rather depressing. If extraordinary things only happen to extraordinary people, then what Jesus did for us is a LYE! The whole point of the redemption was so that we, ordinary people, could be changed extraordinarily through Christ! No later period! End of discussion for me!

There were a lot of cheesy lines in this movie, but I didn't mind most of the humorous ones. This particular line I actually liked, despite it's cliche-ness. I happen to feel that all people are extraordinary. Which, despite a lot of lines like, 'everybody's special, which means no one is' does NOT make them the same. I truly believe that people are wonderfully extraordinary. I'm rather like Dr. Who in that way... :3

Anyway. I feel like the cheesy lines could have been written better, but I understand the point the writers were trying to make. I liked the, 'when you grow up, you should be just like you.' Because it's relevant to what Lucy just learned. :]

Lucy telling Edmund she has a "bad feeling about this" when they realize Eustace has gone missing. Another often-used cheesy line in movies, especially the Star Wars films.

I don't see that as cheesy, what's wrong with someone now feeling good about something that doesn't look good? It actually works well sometimes.

I guess it's just an overused line in movies for me. Lucy could probably have said, "I hope something terrible hasn't happened to Eustace...." or "I hope he isn't lost....eaten by a dragon....hurt"....etc.
