I am just speculating at this point, but I think that, unfortunately, Eustace will be staying a dragon for longer in the film than he does in the book. We think the official Narnia movie website gave us the list of the islands, which read: Narrowhaven, Magician's Island, Goldwater Island, Ramandu's Island, Dark Island, and finally, Aslan's Country. There was a quote from Michael Apted in the Empire Magazine (Australia):
“This is a lot more psychological; it’s not a big action movie. There are a lot of different locations and adventures but, apart from a huge battle at the end with a sea serpent and a dragon, this is a character story. The quality of the book, and the appeal of the book, is that it’s more of an emotional than a swashbuckling adventure.”
We know that Eustace is present at Narrowhaven, due to this picture:

We also have this picture of Eustace at Narrowhaven hitting Gumpas with an oar on this page:

Eustace is with the crew on the Magician's Island because of this screen cap:

We have reason to believe that Deathwater Island and Dragon Island are being merged together for the film.
Eustace IS NOT present when Caspian, Edmund, and Lucy meet Lilliandil, Ramandu's Daughter:

The above screen cap was what triggered everything for me. All we have left are Dark Island, and Aslan's Country. Where does the battle against the sea serpent take place, and will Eustace still be fighting against it as a dragon? Will he appear at Dark Island to save them and free the slaves? This picture, shows the crew at the Dark Island, and I don't think I see Eustace (let me know if you do spot him!), but it is truly hard to say:

I guess all in all, we really don't know the details. I am definitely not for the idea of Eustace earning back his "undragoning" by saving the crew from the sea serpent, but these are sometimes the changes the filmmakers have to make when converting books to the big screen. I was curious to see what everyone else's thoughts are, but as of right now, in my opinion, all the clues seem to point in this direction.

Eustace is present as a human in Aslan's Country and in the rowboat. It has to be after they leave Dark Island (if you listed the islands in the order from which they actually appear in the film)
I can't say if it is either a good or a bad thing just yet, but I'm anxiously awaiting. I bet it will be good.

According to the Official Narnia Movie Website, the Island are in the correct order, and yes, I agree, Eustace has to be "undragoned" between Ramandu's Island and the rowboat/Aslan's Country.

But what I don't get is the fight at the "end" from what Apted is saying. Like will Eustace have the ability to transform back into a dragon? or did Eustace make friends with a dragon while he was one and that dragon saves them from the serpent? ...
This thinking is killing me, but it's fun!

Haha it is! I thought it was more that he stayed a dragon until the end of the movie, and Eustace was the one who fights the sea serpent, as opposed to it being a helpful friend!

Hey, we need an ugly big friend for Eustace as opposed to a cute little friend for Lucy! . I think that is EUstace on Lillandi Iasland. Check out the super short hair on teh back. Has to be Eustace. Though Edmund's is super short too but not as super short as Eustace.

I think this is exactly what they are going to do. They are going to have Eustace do something heroic at the end of the film before he is undragoned. I don't like it. The thing is that they said they had a very long discussion about the idea of grace and that Eustace's undragonning could not be earned and yet it seems that this is exactly what is going to happen anyways.
There are no clouds in the sky. There is only the open sun and the Lord watches.
^ I don't know, I'm sort of in favor in supporting the idea if it is done right. I need proof in seeing a point to why they would want to change it this way and hope it's a great point that shows. It could be done beautifully. We'll just have to wait and see.

No. That is the defining scene of the book. That through Aslan's grace Eustace is undragoned and not because of anything he did. This IS the end all for me. If this isn't right then this film will not be Narnia for me.

I forget where I posted this before, but when we first heard rumors of a dragon/sea serpent fight I developed an idea of how they're probably going to do this. Dragon! Eustace and the Sea Serpent fight. Eustace kills the serpent, but is drug down beneath the waves by the body of the serpent. Everyone gets sad, cries a little, and then miraculously the limp body of Eustace floats up to the surface. Lucy doses him with the cordial and he comes back to life with the cliched coughing up of water. Then whomever is Mr. Exposition for the movie will chime in with something lame about the power of sacrifice, blah, blah, blah, etc.
^That really sounds lame , not your idea Booky, but the fact that that might be possible. After thinking about it a little it is starting to seem as though the crew is striving away from some of the meanings in this story. It should be about forgiveness and not a task upon death to prove it unless it was Eustace's own will to do it, not just because Aslan wants him to do it.

But didn't someone confirm that the undragoning was going to be just as it was in the book? That's what I had heard. Has it changed?
Go to this topic in the Rumors page to see a piece of information on on the Sea Serpent Battle which i think a lot of people missed...
^^ Yeah that's what I thought too Eustace+Jill! The narnia fans who saw the super trailer with the undragoning scene seemed very pleased with it.

Is everyone sure that the Sea Serpent Battle is at the end of the movie? It might have been the last scene filmed, but is it the last in the movie itself? Didn't an extra say the serpent was defeated by them crushing it against a rock, and not by Eustace???
