I love how Edmund has his flashlight in the new picture form MTV!
I was thinking, actually, before this that it would be awesome if Caspian had brought his flashlight on board the Dawn Treader!
in PC, the last time the flashlight is seen is during the night raid when Edmund uses it to jam a door shut against some Telmarines. but it's still in the castle. so I can see how Caspian could have brought it along!
what are your thoughts on this?

I didn't notice the torch at first, but then I realized how they could be seeing the papers in the dark, and then I burst out laughing! Some time ago, my sister and I were joking about when Edmund came back, Caspian would show him it and say "This is yours, and it's been very handy during my reign. Oh, and by the way, for some reason it won't work anymore..."
I think it's great that Edmund gets his torch back, after a year of not having it. I wonder if he'll lose it again. "Oh, great! I lost my new torch in Narnia again!"
Woah, you're right!!! I had to go back and look at the picture because I didn't even notice it the first time. That's really interesting! That would definitely be cool if someone found it in the door of the castle and gave it to King Caspian, who then kept it with Peter's, Susan's, and Lucy's gifts and brought it with him on the voyage! (That's the most logical explanation I can come up with). I'm really interested to see what explanation they use in the movie.

I could have sworn that his flashlight was broken in PC. Besides, it's been three years since PC. I can believe in magic and talking animals and humanoid stars, but a flashlight that still works after three years with no new batteries or bulbs? That I find hard to believe.
Wow, those must have been really good batteries. I think Fire Fairy's explanation is probably the correct one. The only other one I can think of is that it's a different one. "Now son, don't you go losing this one too." I wonder if it runs out of power before they reach the dark island, or does he lose it for good?

I don't think its entirely unreasonable to expect a torch to still function correctly after 3 years, assuming as you would that it was not used frequently, if ever, during that period. So that is not really an issue for me.
If its inclusion helps to add a nice emotional connection between VDT and PC, then i am all for it.
However, if its inclusion is used simply for some cheap comedic moments about the incongruity of having a modern technology in a fantasy world, then i'd be less enthused about its appearance.
I laughed when I saw that picture. I always imagined in the book that some Narnian would find the flashlight years later and imagine it to be some interesting artifact to keep in a shrine.
Maybe when Caspian gives Lucy her cordial and brings out the other gifts, Edmund will remark how he didn't get a gift and it was his fault. Then Caspian will bring out the flashlight! haha.
I bet that at the end of the movie the batteries will die.
Edmund: Oh no! The batteries are dead
Caspian: What are batteries?
Caspian always loved hearing about the "real" world anyways. Which reminds me, I think in the book Caspian thought that since out world is round, the people at the "bottom" walked upside down. I would love for them to put that in, it would be so funny.
I wonder what they are looking at in the picture. What are those books; are they in the VDT book?

I am actually not all that excited. It's cool to see Edmund's torch, but I thought it broke. I'll have to go back and watch that part of the Night Raid again, but I'm almost positive it breaks.
What are those books; are they in the VDT book?
No, this scene does not occur in the book. My best guess (and I'm pretty sure I'm right) is the belltower scene that we've heard about which involves slavers sliding down ropes to capture Caspian and Lucy. Perhaps the books contain some sort of information about the "malevolent mist" and how the "seven swords" can stop it? Or maybe some sort of legend about the Stone Knife?
I love the round world part in the book.
There are no clouds in the sky. There is only the open sun and the Lord watches.
I always felt a little sorry for Edmund for not having any gifts, so I guess it could be neat if Caspian brought the flashlight along as one of the treasures--so he had something cool & useful as well as Lucy.
On the other hand, I did think it had gotten pretty beaten up during the night raid...so I'm not sure what I think about it showing up here.
I wonder if Caspian kept it on a special shelf with the cordial, horn, etc?

I really like the the idea if Caspian is going to have the Pevensie gifts on the ship then it is better that they have Edmund's torch in use as well on the voyage. When I saw it in the picture I screamed !Yes!

I was really hoping they were going to do this. I can't wait to see the part in the movie where he gets it back.
As for the batteries, I think if the flashlight was kept out of the heat and not used often, they could last for quite a while.

^^ yeah, in PC, he only uses it for a little bit when they find the treasure chamber and then during the night raid. and the batteries, at least as the book goes, are practically new! and maybe this picture in the book is the first time he uses it in the movie and maybe the batteries will die sometime in the middle of the movie?
I also can't wait to see Edmund get the flashlight back! I bet he's going to be shocked to see it again!

An interesting addition to VDT. I suppose that Edmund's torch could have been found in the castle and kept by Caspian. It did work again after striking the soldier. Maybe the Narnian air is good for batteries.

Same goes for me.

There is definitely no "a" in definite.

Maybe the Narnian air is good for batteries.
That's probably it!
