My brother brought up an interesting question that could make for an interesting discussion. When the sea serpent come will Reepicheep tell everyone not to fight it.
I mean it's so ridiculously hard to imagine that mouse from Prince Caspian saying that, but that is exactly how it should be. I mean we're talking Hollywood here so I'm sure the battle scene will be played up, even go on for several minutes before Reep gets his outstanding idea, but it would be sad to have it taken out completely.

I agree; if they remove it, I will be disappointed. I think it's such a great character moment for both Reep and Eustace and it would be such a shame to lose it. On the other hand, it's not a very cinematic scene, and could easily come off as rather lame if it wasn't done right (BBC VDT anyone?). It will depend partly on how well they develop Reep and Eustace up until that moment. If they handle their characters correctly, then the irony of the scene should be obvious. If they don't, I think it will feel more like a lame excuse to get rid of the serpent, because they couldn't think of anything better.

Yeah, I think it would be disappointing not to include that scene, but they have to get it completely right in order for it to work!!
"Are you sure you're eighteen?"
"Why? Do I look older?"
well, I think it will be lest in! without them pushing, how will the dragon's tail on the back of the ship be broken off? more to the point, how will they get the serpent off the ship if not for the pushing?
so they will have to push sooner or later.....

^well they could change the whole thing and just have them hack it in to pieces. Of course I wouldn't like this.
but the reason they didn't hack it to pieces and also were not able to hack it to pieces in the book was because it was too thick and they didn't have time.....so unless they want to make a serpent that is two inches thick and has no bones, I don't see how they could hack it to pieces

^well it could be thicker than that. and you can hack through bone. trust me.
The skin/scales of the serpent don't have to be thicker than bone to be harder than it. For example, a twig is (or can be) thicker than a sheet of metal, and yet you can break sticks with your hands and not metal. Same concept here. The serpent obviously had thin (but VERY hard) skin/scales.

It seems as if Reepicheep wouldn't be in character if he did that. If it happens that way he'll tell everyone not to fight so he can get his single combat with it
Still knowing Hollywood they will make it epic like the kraken with POTC.

That's the beauty of it though! Reep has matured enough to go against his own will and instinct in favor of what is wise. It's a defining moment for his character.
Glenstorm the Great is correct--bones can be hacked through. Don't ask me how I know.
My issue with hacking at it is becuase it could easily be compared to the Kraken's tentacles. But I don't think they'll just push it off. I imagine there'll be some alternate...
But then it could be useful to show how Reep's character is maturing. He's full of death-and-glory still, but aware of reality. He is no longer just a hack-and-slash machine.

yeah, especially after the night raid. granted, that wasn't in the book, but it's along with the movies now so if they keep any continuity.....

I do hope they keep that line in there. It showed Reeps maturity and the fact that he thought through the situation. Its part of what made him such an amazing swords-man...er, mouse.

I hope they at least make Eustace the first one to attack the sea serpent. He should be human again since we heard about the discussion they had on grace and the decision to not have him fight it as a dragon.

Seems I can't get away from it. The topic name makes me think of someone in labor. I need a break from the forum ... been working too much and that wont change anytime soon.

I don't mind this fight being restructured for the movie; we know something like it was filmed in Stage 5 per Ernie Malik; just no details.
Would be nice to see a solution proposed outside of what would be normal. I hope Reep's solution remains in there somehow.
