I'm wondering if the time slot that tangled was in would work. A November release could prove good. It would still be close enough to the holidays to benefit. However it would have plenty of time to build a gross before the Hobbit opens. It opened on November 24th. The Hobbit is supposed to released on the 19th of December. So that would at least give Narnia some room. At least 4 weekends actually.

I doubt that's true cause there will be barely any movie would be breaking evening at all if they won't make money off the first 2 weeks.

Besides, it would defeat the purpose of things like Copyright, film rights and all such legislation if big studios only had the first 2 weeks. Technically Fox still will get profits from the sale of DVD's later on, and from the use of the films they produce wherever that may be. Surely companies like Fox are like wholesalers in the entertainment business with TV companies and airlines also buying copies of their movies for the ratings.

Let's not forget that Twilight will have their final installment of the series release on Nov 16, 2012. Many people here don't like the movies, but there is no denying they are big money makers- (even though they tend to drop like rocks second weekend), still they have presence after that. Their opening is so huge that even with a HUGE drop they still make loads. ;)

I voted "I have no idea." I guess that's pretty self explanatory.

That's a very good point. 2012 is a rough year to put this film in. I could almost see Fox deciding not to continue the series because of that, rather then Box Office returns. However, if it opens on November 30-2, It would have 3 weekends before The Hobbit and 2 after Twilight. Since Twilight is so front loaded, and has a very different demographic, I think The Silver Chair wouldn't be hurt to bad. That being said, the Hobbit is actually a children's book, unlike LOTR, therefore it would really hurt Narnia both at home and even more overseas. I actually see The Silver Chair taking more of a hit overseas. Which is really bad because this series really needs that overseas gross.

I voted for I have No Idea, because I really don't have a clue how much the franchise has to make with this film to have enough to budget Silver Chair. But since it's my favourite book in the series, I would be GUTTED if it didn't get made! I'm desperate to get it greenlit, but I agree with some of the former posts that the winter of 2012 isn't brilliant for film releases. With both the Hobbit and the last of the Twilight films coming out it looks to be a busy period. I do hope this doesn't deter Fox and Walden from going ahead with the next film though!

I'd be feeling more confident about the Silver Chair if this film's gross was 120 million dollars higher. But as it is, I could easily see them not making it.

What of the did early January for a release?! I don't know, I mean, we all want this movie released during the holidays, but I think it would be a terrible idea to release SC in Winter 2012.

Angelwings_the_Faun,

Where did you hear that they are only making 4 movies?!

As quoted from WikiNarnia: "Michael Apted was announced as director on April 17, 2007; Andrew Adamson, director of the series' first two films, and Mark Johnson are slated as co-producers... Bob Beltz of Walden Media said the production company deliberately set up a fast-paced, staggered shooting schedule for the Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Silver Chair films "in a way that it won't have to be two and a half years between them. We'll be able to bring them out sequentially a year apart"...

This interview suggests that Walden Media only has a contract for these four films, and since Disney decided to back out of producing VoDT because of the lack of money it was predicted to produce, Fox picked it up, but has yet to say whether or not they will continue with the Silver Chair. Also, there is next to zero chatter about a fifth film. I'm not saying it's written in stone, but it seems unlikely that a fifth, sixth, and seventh will be filmed.

Actually, VDT has NOT done better than PC so far. Yes, there are a few countries where VDT has outgrossed PC but overall VDT is still significantly behind PC. I am worried for the future of this franchise. But lets not lose hope. Maybe, just maybe they might greenlight SC since the budget was much less than PC. Lets see what happens.

Not in overall gross, but the first day revenue was better by a few thousand in more than a few countries. Also, it was mentioned earlier that even if VoDT makes no more sales in the coming year than PC did this past year, it should still make more money, because they are showing it in two different formats, 2D and 3D, and 3D showings are about 3.50-5.00 more expensive per person per showing. It's seems logical, but remember, it still has another year to be viewed before the final estimates are in.

"None of this fazes us ...I'm absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God's love..." Romans 8:39

Wow - I am glad that so many people have the confidence that I lack, that they will make SC. I want them to, so badly, but - how can they?
I had the feeling, after I watched VDT the first time, that it was all over, and this was the end. It was a perfect ending, and it broke my heart.
But - what have we, without belief?

I voted other. I'm slightly optimistic about The Silver Chair. VDT has a ways to go yet but still has at least a 50/50 chance of reaching enough for another Narnia movie.

That's just my opinion based on what we know about the budget and advertising/publicity costs and how VDT is doing up to this point. I think the way it has come back from its initial poor opening weekend here in the USA might be a positive factor if it comes up a little short of what the "official" people know it needs to make.

The holidays helped but I think the word of mouth was more positive and stonger than initially thought. I really want to see SC as it is a close second favorite to VDT. It would be nice to see a more faithful adaptation also. ;)
