Here's a post from Aslan's Country: http://www.aslanscountry.com/2010/12/e- ... to-narnia/
We may be getting anotther narnia film yet. I voted that they will make one!
So: most people think it will be made, followed by not knowing, and one each for a few others.
I'm really hoping...

I voted that I think they will make the next one. It's very possible that at the end of Dawn Treaders run it will be the highest grossing film that fox has put out all year. With Gulliver bombing, they may not have a film hit 100 million domestic. Narnia has the best chance of doing that. So while it might not be super impressive compared to the likes of Harry Potter, Iron Man, Transformers etc. It would be unwise to discontinue the franchise of your top earner, even if the results are disappointing.
Is there a source somewhere that shows Fox's top grosses of the year? And after starting to read SC again I really cannot wait.

Good point, and I hope you are right. But Gulliver's Travels is getting good audiences here in Australia, if what I saw yesterday was any guide. I noticed in both the movie trailer in front of VDT and in the evening news programs, Gulliver's Travels, which has the prime Dec 26th spot, is being heavily marketed to Australian audiences, something that Fox didn't do for VDT and could have done. That is, despite its being a Lilliputian anachronism of an adaptation despite its professed modern update.
I can't find an official source. I don't have a premiere pass at Box Office Mojo. However, in the box office forum there they say that knight and day is the highest grossing movie fox has put out this year. However, one can't always trust what one says in forums. Here is the link to Knight and Days box office.
No, it's not Knight and Day. Not even close. Just look at this list and look through at all the ones with Fox as the distrubuter:
http://boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2010&p=.htm
Fox's highest this year is Date Night, but it doesn't even crack the top 20. At $98.7 million, I think VotDT might be able to pass it. The rest of Fox's films:
Percy Jackson (88.7)
Unstoppable (78.6)
The A-Team (77.2)
Knight & Day (76.4)
Voyage of the Dawn Treader (66.0)
Percy Jackson is a good comparison. There's little, if any talk of continuing that franchise. Worldwide, Percy made $226,441,832 and the budget was $95 million.
Narnia has already made $231 million worldwide but the budget was $155 million.
Another potential franchise that Fox abandoned is Jumper, which made $222 million worldwide with a budget of $85 million.
But neither franchise is based on source material with such classic appeal. Fox had a pretty awful year, but just last year had the highest grossing movie of all time, Avatar. They've got at least two Avatar sequels on the horizon and likely plenty of cash to throw around. Perhaps they will be willing to stick with this beloved franchise despite it's lower box office wattage, similar to the way TV networks stick with low rated shows that have huge followings or critical praise.
It's hard to say. I'd say it's still 50/50. I really want to see Magician's Nephew made! Please Fox!!
I would very much like to see SC made, but if its not, we have 3 great movies for which I am thankful they were made
NW twin to Georgiefan! NW sib to 22!
avvie by AslansChild thank you!!!
I believe knight was mentioned because of its world wide gross. Domestically date night did the best. However it is well below Knight and Day if you count overseas box office. Knight and day had az total gross of 265 million. Date night 152 million. So knight and day is still the highest fox grosser overall i have heard about. Wish it was date night. Then Narnia would already be the highest.
"Wish it was date night. Then Narnia would already be the highest."
I think it will end up as the highest. It's shown tremendous staying power at the box office. It was the #4 film last weekend for crying out loud! Only dropped about 2million from the weekend before, and Yogi Bear, in it's 2nd weekend, dropped below DT which was in it's 3rd weekend. It also averaged almost 2million a day it's 2nd week out, compared to 1million a day for it's first week. I think SC will get greenlit, it's the ones after it we need to worry about, and whether they'll make SC right of course!
But neither franchise is based on source material with such classic appeal.
Also, I think the fact that LWW did so well shows them the potential that is in the series if they are able to capitalize on it.
As for the Percy Jackson comparison. The one big difference is that VDT will likely make about 200 million more worldwide. That's quite a difference. Certainly enough to be a deciding factor in whether a sequel is made.
Check out "The Magician's Nephew" and "The Last Battle" trailers I created!

I'll repose this from the duplicate thread:
Despite DTs lower-than-hoped-for initial numbers, I am still optimistic only because Dawn Treader might be Fox's highest grossing domestic movie of the year! So they would be throwing away one of their bigger franchises if they didn't continue. However, if 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair' beats the odds and gets green lit then that is only half the challenge. Winter 2012 appears to be a murderers row with the impending release of 'The Hobbit'.. And we all know how people like to compare Narnia with LOTR with both being high fantasy and all. Then there are animated 'princess' movies - Pixar's 'Brave' (formerly The Bear And The Bow) and Disney's 'The Snow Queen'.. So yikes, SC would be getting attacked from all fronts if it gets lucky enough to see the silver screen.
your fellow Telmarine
CorazonBandido55, you bring up a good point. If SC does get greenlit, when would it be released? Would a summer release work better (even though that's probably a no-go because if PC.)
I'm still confused. However I have more hope that it will get made than that it won't. It would really be a shame if it didn't and I think Fox and Walden both know that. *sigh*

Fair point! Though at least HP will finish in six months' time, so SC won't be up against that particular franchise, unlike VDT. When is the Hobbit due to be released exactly?
I voted that I have no idea. Really, I would love to see SC made into a movie. But when it comes to the movie-making industry, you can never tell...
My brother's friend, who works at a theater, says that the film company only makes money off of the first two weeks. After that, it all goes to the theater. Does anyone know whether or not this is true? Because if it is, that means that the numbers are now final.
