I voted for Adamson because I would think after seeing how things didn't turn out so well with the changes in PC and VDT that he would be anxious to avoid repeating the same mistakes. I think with his visual effects background he has a better idea for how things should look onscreen that Apted didn't have and I thought his original enthusiasm for LWW was good and he seemed to work well with the kids.
Though I could also go for a new director who has the same enthusiasm and read the books as a kid....and he would definitely have to be someone who wouldn't make serious plot changes.

Anything but Apted. And I think I'm justified in saying it so bluntly.
Adamson; well, I wouldn't really mind having him back, but I'd be wary. I love him becuase he has a love for and a vision of Narnia. It's a love that came from when he was a little boy and hasn't dimmed since. I want a director who loves Narnia just like that. But as we all know, Adamson has his issues. Maybe with new scriptwriters, I could welcome him wholeheartedly.
But I'm not adverse to someone new, either. Just who that is, I really have no ideas, and I can see a lot of us are left blank as well...
I voted for Andrew Adamson. He did a lot better job than Apted, but I'm really hoping for Peter Jackson.

This thread idea has been done to death. I don't want Apted. He's a good director but not when it comes to Narnia. Adamson was good. I'd prefer someone new. New scriptwriters are an absolute must-have for MN.

Look, Apted isn't coming back and Peter Jackson is going to be busy for some time with "The Hobbit."
I voted for someone else. I don't care who it is. Their #1 qualification for the job must be that they are excited about directing "The Magician's Nephew." Without excitement and passion for the project, it'll end up like any other mid-range fantasy film. The source material deserves better treatment than that.
I actually voted for Adamson. He's a known quantity. I previously supported the idea of having Kenneth Branagh direct TSC. Possibly Branagh could direct TMN. He read the book for HarperAudio, which is great.

Yeah, they tried the "someone new" angle. Saw how that turned out. Not that every director would be the same, but again, Adamson is really the safe choice.
In retrospect, I'm able to see how tricky it was for him to adapt both LWW and PC. Especially PC, without going whole hog-blasphemy like they did for VDT. I think Adamson cares about what is on the page of the book and making it work as opposed to trying to re-write and re-format the entire concept of Narnia.

If Michael Apted came back, I wonder if he would conjure up another book C. S. Lewis didn't write?
Bookwyrm, don't even joke about that!
If Apted came back, as much as I love NarniaWeb, I don't know if I could handle anticipating The Magician's Nephew...

I'll have to make a list of those some day. There was one about the White Witch in VDT or PC I believe
Anyway back on topic. If he did he'd probably just film the book he didn't finish (edit...wait...this is the mn thread... sorry) In all honesty though I wouldn't mind him coming back for another shot... He needs more confidence in the franchise though. I'd still vote Adamson however...as I believe he was really excited for that one.

Oh, that's a good point. We need to be careful with our jokes. Say, here's a thought that'll have you rolling on the floor: They bring in a director who is a serious Narniac, and won't try to turn Narnia into something it isn't (like Middle Earth or Disneyland). But s/he would also understand the context and character development needs of general audiences who haven't read the books.
Yeah, I slay myself sometimes.
The Magician's Nephew should be filmed by a very artistic and visually creative director, who can also bring out good performances from the cast. Who that may be, I have no idea.
Winter Is Coming
That comment about visual creativity got me thinking...Vincent Ward, director of "What Dreams May Come," might not be a bad choice.
