[Closed] Director for The Magician's Nephew

I think the poll question is pretty self explanatory. Who would you like to see direct The Magician's Nephew and why?

For myself, I don't want to sound rude, but I really did not like Michael Apted's VDT and would rather him not return for any other Narnia movies. I liked Adamson's LWW and I liked PC even more, but there were still a number of little things that bugged me about both movies... like he didn't quite get the underlying story and characters. So I would be open to Andrew Adamson returning, but I'd really like someone new to do The Magician's Nephew. Someone who's madly in love with the story for what it is. :)

Oh, and feel free to suggest directors if you have a good idea for one!

As much as I love Adamson, and Apted's ok, I want someone new. I am not one to know which director, but I think whoever it is needs to have real love for CoN, and understand the themes so that he can try to adapt MN well, but change things so that it works on screen. I hope this guy will wipe us away, and if he's sucessful at making a great adaption and wonderful film (and really caring about CoN), he'll do some of the other ones! I want to feel like the director has honest excitement about what he's working on, and makes MN look like it was made by someone who truly cared about it. Maybe I'm a little bit too hopeful, but I think there's hope for a great director out there to do MN! :D

Funny fantasia_kitty, i just commented about this in the other thread. I really think that this movie needs a completely new director. VDT felt the most Narnian to me, but i don't think that Apted should return, not since he seems to lack faith in the books. And frankly, i think Adamson's movies were good films, but they weren't brilliant and i want MN to be brilliant. It's a magical adventure story that i think should be treated more like an independent art film, NOT like some sort of hollywood action/adventure flick. And i think this movie needs that anyway to bring the Narnia franchise up from the "meh" level to the "i gotta see this" level.

Someone new would be nice....someone who can make us feel like we are in Narnia and stay true to the books. Andrew Adamson did very well, but its time for a new face!

I voted for Someone New. I think that is what is needed now although Andrew Adamson did express in interest in coming back and directing MN.

Definitely want someone who cares about the book and wants to honor it and be as creative as possible at the same time. Who knows, MN may be the one to re-energize the series by being a better adaptation than the last two and a really good movie that a lot of people want to see.

I think someone new. I think that the Narnia movies need someone to follow the events that go on in the book. Michael Apted is a great director, but Narnia movies is not his thing.

I like Apted... he had no control over the pacing of the movie, and if I'm not mistaken, he didn't write the script.. just executed it (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

With the exception of the infamous "Kiss", I like the direction that Adamson took Narnia (especially with Prince Caspian).

I voted for Adamson (not because I know he is enthusiastic about Magician's Nephew) because I had heard that he works with Harry Gregson-Williams in Adamson's movie soundtracks, and the Narnia score for LWW & PC was breathtaking!

Adamsom LWW was brilliant, and PC wasn't far behind. I'm pretty sure he's been interested in this one too which could mean good things as far as Adaptation is concerned. I'd be okay with someone new if they loved the book and if they had a vision for how it should play out.

Apted would be my last choice personally. From the way he spoke about the Chronicles and VDT in interviews, I get the imperession he isn't very excited about the source material nor making these films.

I wouldn't mind seeing Adamson back. However I voted for someone new. MN is very different from the other books/movies. I would like to see someone with a fresh and different vision.
However whether I would prefer Adamson or someone new depends on who this new person is. I'm not sure about who I would like to see as the director at this point. I just want to see someone who is enthusiastic and passionate about making movies and Narnia! :)

I voted for "someone new." I don't really care who (it could even be Adamson or Apted); I'd just like to see someone excited about the film and knows what would be in the best interest of the source material. :)

Someone new. Adamson and Apted both had their faults, so I'm hoping a new director will be able to fix them.

You know I feel the same about MN as Umbarto. I would like to see it done as an "artsy film". I want it to be made creatively and with a lot of love! :D That's why the director has to love the book.

Absolutely, Valiant. I honestly believe that's the only way for a film of MN to work. The book doesn't have battles, or even a lot of action, yet it is extremely compelling, not unlike VDT.

I think that with the right director who loves the books for what they are will be able to turn this into a movie that works extremely well on its own. That's probably the only way for the remaining books to be successful as films. They can't rely on franchise legs; they need to be excellent adaptations as well as tight scripts that are very well polished, because the script is really the foundation of the whole movie.

I'd feel the most secure with Andrew Adamson. I liked both of his movies but I was disappointed with Apted's vision. I never got the sense he took the story seriously or was even terribly excited about it. :|

If there was a new dirctor, sure he could be the best yet, but he could also be the worst yet! :-o

For that reason I'm going with dependable ol' Andrew Adamson. :)

I kind of want Adamson to return. I love his ideas on Narnia, and I think having him direct MN when he directed LWW, when the stories go hand-in-hand with one another, I don't know, he might have a better understanding.
