even though I'm not in love with the ship, I would pay alot...if I had alot . I'm obsessive with movie sets like that, when I went to Disney World the year after LWW came out, we went to and exhibit with set pieces, costumes, and various items. They told you not to take pics (so I didn't) but I did touch the White Witch's sleigh!
I would pay 10$ (the extent of my worldly wealth) for even a splinter from the Dawn Treader.
I am very sad that it had to go to scrap, but I can understand the artisans' predicament. What would you do with a giant boat that can't float? Set it up in your front yard? I just hope that they kept some of the more detailed pieces because they are so beautiful.
Quod Erat Demonstrandum
While at the Narnia Exhibit, I was wondering if they might not expand the exhibit to include pieces from VDT. Maybe some of the pieces from the ship will make it into the exhibit.
I wish I could have a piece of the Dawn Treader's wood! I would treasure it always!

yeah like the prow and bow! That would be cool
I imagine there won't be anything extremely big, but I wouldn't be surprised to have something like lanterns, doors, props, and maybe the wheel added in. I also wouldn't be surprised to see miniatures of the full boat as well.
One thing I'm curious about though... after they dismantle it, are they going to store it for The Silver Chair? If they're smart, they will.
i had been thinking the exact same thing
The Silver Chair, Chapter 3, The Sailing of the King
On the near side was a quay of white marble and, moored to this, the ship: a tall ship with high forecastle and high p**p, gilded and crimson, with a great flag at the mast-head, and many banners waving from the decks, and a row of shields, bright as silver, along the bulwarks. The gang-plank was laid to her, and at the foot of it, just ready to go on board, stood an old, old man.Although the description of King Caspian's boat in The Silver Chair is clearly not supposed to be the Dawn Treader, i had half thought they might of followed in the BBC's footsteps and changed it so that it was (even if the BBC productions probaly did it more as a cost saving measure than for any artistic reason).
Maybe such a change might be confusing to the audience, but on the other hand it could perhaps lend added poignancy to King Caspian's final voyage - i'm not sure, but they should at least keep the Dawn Treader set in storage somewhere and give the director of Silver Chair the option of reusing it or not. Destroy it now and the director won't really be left with much of a choice, for better or worse.
No, that wouldn't be a good idea, simply because Eustace would, of course, recognize the ship. I do think that they should keep it though.

I saw the film on Opening Day!
When all else fails, read the Instructions!
^^ that's a good point! he would reconise the ship.....and now that I think about it, if Caspian was really old, he wouldn't be sailing the same ship as when he was young!

^^why wouldn't he?
I think they should just dismantle it and keep it in storage. They can always paint it differently and give a different prow and stern...if they wanted to make it look different...
starkat: yeah I guess they probably wouldn't have pieces that big, but it would still be cool
^^ if Caspian is really old, he would probably have had several ships over the years.....the Dawn Treader is only going to last for so long......

'Fraid I'm gonna have to disagree with you there Liberty Hoffman. Provided they have good upkeep, ships last a really long time. When I went out to California for the Prince Caspian Lion Party, one thing I did was visit the San Francisco Maritime Museum where they house actual historical ships. The oldest one there was the Balclutha from 1886. Still in great shape!

You make a good point, but I'm gonna have to give kudos to the way BBC did it because I think it worked very well. Caspian boarded a smaller vessel of some type that rowed him and the rest of the crew out to the where the Dawn Treader was moored. Eustace couldn't see it where he was hiding. Course there is still the chance he'd spot it as he was flying in over the ocean, but not necessarily.
^^ goes to show how little I know about ships.....
I think that they will have to make it a different boat in SC for the sake of Eustace not being able to reconise it, though!

Yeah like FK said, ships can last a really long time if they're taken care of. I went on the USS Constitution this summer. It still operates and works fine and it was one of America's first ships ever built!
Maybe instead of changing the ship's appearance they could have it just enough out of view so that Eustace doesn't see it properly and doesn't realize it as the Dawn Treader. I think that's what FK was saying...
I can't believe they're going to scrap it...
Its to beautiful to scrap.
The Dawn Treader is wood, no? Don't wooden ships have shorter lifespans than the modern metal ones. Even if they don't its always possible that in the SC it was being repaired or repainted or had (gulp) wrecked. Also its possible that Caspian needed a different type of ship for the purpose of his voyage in SC (I feel really dumb right now cause I can't remember why he was sailing anywhere in the first place) or maybe he simply had multiple ships at his disposal and he wanted to use that one. Or maybe the Dawn Treader made him too sad because it made him think of his dead wife and missing son.
Just a few theories

"Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed." -Richard Adams, Watership Down
^^ I thikn they already did scrap it!
