I just read the news item about the Dawn Treader boat that they made for the movie getting taken apart and used for other things and the rest getting thrown out! that makes me sad.....

Yes. It makes me sad too.
When I did some research for what happened to the full-sized mockup of the Millennium Falcon (Star Wars Episode 5 & 6), I was very unhappy that it was sold as scrap. Anthony Daniels, reportedly among others, retrieved a number of pieces of that set for keepsakes and gifts to others. The exterior was plywood; the frame was tubular steel and assembled to be modular ... gone ... scrap ... *weeps bitterly*
My thoughts about the Dawn Treader go the same way. She looks spectacular, but it is and only ever shall be just a movie set. It was not made to withstand the effects of time and use. I will speculate key items (the ships wheel) will end up in various places all over the world; perhaps pieces will be auctioned. Lucas Film has auctioned off pieces from the Star Wars movies, for instance.
Of course ... thats Hollywood.
And how much would you pay for a piece of the Dawn Treader set?

“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”
Hmmm I'm not sure how much I would pay but it would definitely be cool to own a piece of the DT. I wonder how and who we can contact so we can get some offical answers.....
I saw the movie....and was disappointed

That's really sad Especially with an amazing movie like Star Wars.
It really stinks they're just selling it off as scrap...Couldn't they try selling pieces to fans? I'm sure that for a reasonable price there are people who would buy them, and then it would still kind of be the Dawn Treader in a way...not just a piece of something else.

Well...I suppose it is sad, but it is just a movie set. I would feel much more sad if it had of been a working ship- you know, something that could actually sail around on the water....I suppose I haven't seen all the little details and whatnot that are on the ship to feel too sad about it... Er, so I suppose I'm somewhat, slightly apathetic.... perhaps this will change though once I've seen the set in the film...

Kind folks of old, you come again no more.

It is sad, sure, but tis the way of the movie world. Very rarely do sets survive after a movie. One thing I'm curious about though... after they dismantle it, are they going to store it for The Silver Chair? If they're smart, they will.
Doesn't bother me the real dawn treader lives in the imagination
You know, I think it would have been nice if they could have auctioned props and set pieces, including the Dawn Treader, for charity. Can you imagine how much money it might have brought in? Perhaps the idea can be planted with TPTB?
It would be nice if they auctioned it off, Im sure many people would pay a pretty penny for it. There has to be another way to dispose of it...well thats holywood for you!
I did not know about the Millenium Falcon from Star Wars...thats interesting!

i had been thinking the exact same thing
The Silver Chair, Chapter 3, The Sailing of the King
On the near side was a quay of white marble and, moored to this, the ship: a tall ship with high forecastle and high p**p, gilded and crimson, with a great flag at the mast-head, and many banners waving from the decks, and a row of shields, bright as silver, along the bulwarks. The gang-plank was laid to her, and at the foot of it, just ready to go on board, stood an old, old man.
Although the description of King Caspian's boat in The Silver Chair is clearly not supposed to be the Dawn Treader, i had half thought they might of followed in the BBC's footsteps and changed it so that it was (even if the BBC productions probaly did it more as a cost saving measure than for any artistic reason).
Maybe such a change might be confusing to the audience, but on the other hand it could perhaps lend added poignancy to King Caspian's final voyage - i'm not sure, but they should at least keep the Dawn Treader set in storage somewhere and give the director of Silver Chair the option of reusing it or not. Destroy it now and the director won't really be left with much of a choice, for better or worse.
And how much would you pay for a piece of the Dawn Treader set?
I would pay $1,000 for the "Captain's Doors" (I'm sure they're worth more, it's just that that's the most I could afford) I would love to hang those as doors in my house. They are beautiful!

I believe that the gentleman who had the photos of the coracle also had a photo of an even more beautiful set of doors. I can't remember for sure though. And those got removed from the web after NarniaWeb posted them so I can't check.
Regarding saving the Dawn Treader for use in The Silver Chair, it sounds like that is not going to happen. That would be awesome, though. I have always thought that it would be very poignant if King Caspian sailed on board the Dawn Treader for his last voyage. The same ship that was built so painstakingly for his very first voyage.

That is the only thing that breaks my heart about this movie.
What is older King Caspian going to sail away on in SC? I thought it was the Dawn Treader.

Awesome! I hope they do completely dismantle it. I'd hate to have to see that ugly thing in SC. Of course they're quite capable of coming up with something even uglier ...
ugly? I don't think the Dawn Treader is ugly. but I might want to see something else in SC.....
