Everyone: Rentrak has a list of the top ten selling DVDs and Blu-Rays in 2011 (2nd quarter). VDT comes in 8th in both lists.
Thanks for those new stats, 220chrisTian. But the data is for rentals, not sales. Still, it is nice to know that VDT did well in rentals as I though it might.

Rentals ... oops. Thanks for catching that! I wish we had an official rentals and sales website like we do for the box office (BOM).

Me too. They used to have a weekly DVD rental charrt but all I could find was an old VHS sample from 2003. Link: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/video/2003/46.htm
The DVD chart was similar. Don't know why they dropped it. Maybe the numbers were not accurate enough. Only they know for sure . IMDB does have a top 20 rental chart but only shows the rankings. IMDB Chart.
It was good of you to find that rental information, 220. Did not know how VDT fared overall in regards to the rentals before seeing that Rentrak article.

I wonder how the 3D DVD sales are going? I don't really know if information is displayed at all since 3D movies on DVD aren't too commonly bought since 3D TV is relatively new, but I'm still curious.
I just recently bought a copy of the movie for a friend's birthday, and the Block Buster in my area is going out of business and all the copies of VDT sold rather quickly (I kept checking when I would walk by).
So whats the running total? From the numbers that I have seen I am guessing that VDT matched PC's total boxoffice draw (but probably brought in less money because more of VDT's revenue was from foreign markets) and the DVD sales are 1/4 of Prince Caspian's?
PC's DVD sales are what got VDT made, so this doesn't look good. Lets just hope that FOX is taking into account that DVD sales as an overall trend are down because ppl download a lot of movies now.
I am kind of losing faith for Narnia 4. that makes me sad.
VDT did finally reach 1.5 million regular DVD units sold according to The Numbers most recent chart. Chart link.
With about 700,000 Blue-ray units based on previous figures, totals so far are 2.2 million in sales which generated about $38-$40 million. We don't have numbers for the rentals or 3D numbers but according to previous posts in this thread VDT finished 8th overall in rentals for the second quarter of 2011.
So VDT's combined sales has done about 45% of PC's.
The only Home Video category where VDT may have done better is in rentals. Only the studios know for sure about the actual numbers and their impact. Wonder what is going on at Fox and Walden...

One question: Is that PC's combined sales to date, or in the same time frame after the release of the movie itself? PC came out in 2008, right near Christmas, which is one reason why it walked off the sales shelves fairly quickly.
When PC first came out on DVD, around Christmas, the DVD's were more appealing since blu-ray had yet to appear, let alone 3D movies which didn't really start until 2009. From my own admittedly overseas observations VDT has done quite as well as PC. The 3D VDT blu-ray has only been released a couple of weeks ago, and we will see a better picture at Christmas time, I'm sure.
At least VDT is doing better than Yogi Bear and Gulliver's Travels, plus remaining better than par with Tron legacy, despite the hype the latter film got.
The PC USA regular DVD totals are from time of release till present. Most of that total came during its initial release. See this link: http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/2008/NARN2-DVD.php

Ah, yes, I thought so. Thanks for looking it up. PC has had since 2008, that is, 3 Christmases, to sell so well. So if VDT has made almost half of PC's current DVD earnings, already, before even its first DVD Christmas, it hasn't done so badly at all. Furthermore, PC isn't in 3D, is it?
What I have noticed mostly is that VDT hasn't been on the shelves much at all. Not as rental discards, not on the food mart magazine shelves, and it is hard to find copies for sale without asking for them.
Oh okay. That's fine we have no 3D DVD report as of now. It's a newer form of DVD, so I wouldn't really have expected to have totals, I was just curious to see if the 3D gimmick helped the DVD sell well.
