[Closed] Dawn Treader Competition

Look, I don't know if some online poll means anything about the movie's future success, but the other day, I came across a poll from BoxOfficeMojo.com. Around 5000 people voted, and the top-ten list may tell us NarniaWebbers at least something about what visitors of one site want to see....

20.5% [of all voters] Iron Man 2
18.7% Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part One)
10.3% Inception
7.1% Toy Story 3
5.9% Alice in Wonderland
4.9% Clash of the Titans
4.8% The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
3.3% The Expendables
2.9% Tron: Legacy
2.4% The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

OFFICIAL LINK here: http://boxofficemojo.com/polls/?page=vi ... 348&p=.htm

See, right there, Narnia rates in the top-ten. Of course, this might not translate into box office success, but just consider that, according to Quantcast.com, BOM receives 1.1 Million visits monthly from the US, and 1.8 milion elsewhere.

Anyone else find that interesting? Of all the movies, only Tron could pose a threat, as all of the movies are released between January and November (as far as I know). Hmph.

Narnia forever!

never underestimate what can happen! Fireproof was in theaters for 3 months! so, VotDT could surprise everyone and blow the charts and amaze us all! I am hoping for it to do very well!!!!

I disagree. What may be successful for an indie Christian church movie isn't the same as for a $140-150million big budget film.

Fireproof earned $30 million, I heard. Most Christian film-goers rejoiced. PC, on the other hand, earned $419 million and was deserted by Disney.

^^^But we must not lose faith, otherwise all would be lost (I know I'm paraphrasing somebody, but I just can't put my finger on who) VDT is among the most popular out of the Narnia series, although LWW is the most well known, and LB won some award, VDT is often slated as being the favorite of most fans. PC on the otherhand is often considered the weakest of the series, and if you ask me $419 million is alot for the "weakest link" (although I still loved the movie)

Interesting; it's nice to see VDT in the top ten although somewhat disappointing that it's on the bottom. As far as I've seen polls mean little when it comes to box office numbers. If I recall correctly LWW was never on the top of any polls like this, and it still did really well. Plus I think this poll is slightly biased by the fact that all (or nearly all) the movies listed there have a trailer of some sort out except for VDT. Another reason I don't think this poll accurately reflect box office numbers is because the majority of people who are getting online and voting on polls are probably a bit older (roughly 15-40) and, as we know, the Narnia movies have always done better with the younger audience.

I'll always be a,

^ditto everything you said. Speaking of, I'm dying for a trailer ;) .

I think TRON would be the biggest competition, but since it is for a generally older audience, I think VotDT should do fine :)

Thank you for terming us "older" and not simply "old." :p I do remember seeing Tron in the theater. I was 17. Played the original video game in the arcade. Makes me want to get out my 45s and listen to Eye of the Tiger and dance around the room in my parachute pants. *sighs* Don't worry, as Rachel-Marie burned my 80s clothes last week. *weeps*

Anyhoo. The trailer for Tron Legacy is at IMdb. Looks great! Brings back memories. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw the updated version of a Recognizer!! ... and Ooooooooooh, the Light Cycles. Always liked Bruce Boxleitner.

“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”

Not helping with the "old". /:) :p

I know VotDT is going to do well. The question is more how well. I think it'll be in between LWW and PC. Yes VotDT is almost everyone's favorite book but that's for those who have read the whole series. Most people have only read LWW. It's the most well-known and jsut a plain accepted classic. VotDT isn't as engrained in to literature as LWW is. I'm still hopeful though. If they don't butcher the plot, us nwebbers should be able to give it a significant profit ;) .

Yes, I agree! I'm pretty confident that VDT will do better than PC. PC is generally people's least favorite of the series and VDT is usually one of the favorites. Besides the whole theme is catchy... a voyage to find 7 lords who haven't been seen for years, an attempt to reach the end of the world, fighting dragon's and sea-serpents...c'mon who wouldn't want to watch a movie like that?

I saw the movie....and was disappointed

About movies in competition with the Dawn Treader, I don't know if anyone saw the article on Aslan's Country? Apparently the movie "the Green Hornet" got its release date pushed back from December 22 to January 14.

Yes! I love how you worded this. Exactly how I feel! I have great high hopes that this movie will do way better then PC.

Great! Now we can just hope that nothing is moved to fill that spot.
