I am worried about Harry Potter will ruin VotDT chances.....*must not think about it*
I hope it doesn't!

I don't think Harry Potter will be a problem. As others have pointed out, it will already have been in theaters for 3 weeks by the time VDT was released. Historically, if you look at the Harry Potter series, none of the movies have been #1 in the box office for more 3 weekends in a row, and only two of those films were number one for 3 weeks (Sorcerer's Stone and Goblet of Fire, which was knocked off by LWW). Also, the winter release Potter films have not done as well at the B.O than the summer releases.
Yeah I'm not too worried about it, but still, we shouldn't underestimate.
Definitaly no underestimations... there is always a first time, hey wouldn't it be awesome if VDT could get a run like Avatar with 5+ weeks on top... I'm just daydreaming

"Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed." -Richard Adams, Watership Down
^^that would be awesome, I would love it . As long as it stays in theatres longer than City of Ember I'll be content... . Although what would make me happy is a longer run than LWW...

never underestimate what can happen! Fireproof was in theaters for 3 months! so, VotDT could surprise everyone and blow the charts and amaze us all! I am hoping for it to do very well!!!!

Eagle Eye was also in theatres very long, almost until it's DVD release! It would be awesome if VoDT stayed in theatres just as long...
I mean, even PC was in theaters for 4 months. LWW was for 5. As long as its making money it will stay in theaters. If VDT is for anything less than 4 months than it probably will have been a financial disaster. City of Ember didn't have a long run because it didn't make much money at all and had short legs, so to speak.
^^I'm hoping that doesn't happen with VoDT. It will hopefully stay in theatres as long as 4 months, if not longer
Hallo-ha fellow Narniawebber's.
Speaking of competition . . . have any of you seen the new teaser trailer for 'Tron Legacy'? I don't really know much about it, but it comes out the week after 'Voyage of the Dawn Treader'. It looks to be a pretty big film - serious competition me thinks, as I imagine the target audiences overlap. Plus it has Jeff Bridges in.
I'm sure - after all this positive reaction from people who have seen rough cuts - that 'Voyage' can take it on. Even if this is an 'Iron Man'-esque film, I'm feeling that VDT will do over and above PC when it comes to taking down the opposition!
(On a side note. 'Tron' teaser trailer!! It's out AFTER VDT! Come on teaser, I know you want to be seen!)
Yeah, I saw the TRON trailer the other day, and honestly I was pretty concerned about what the film would do to the Dawn Treader until I saw the teaser. It looked quite a bit darker than I thought it would be. It seems they are targeting an older age group than VDT. I think both TRON and Narnia can thrive quite well together.

I think TRON is definitely our stiffest competition, but I am still optimistic. Yes, we have a big movie the weekend after VdT is released, but I think in the worst case, we'll still fare better than PC because PC was positively sandwiched by huge movies and VdT has a bit of breathing room before it comes out, which means it won't get lost in the crowd as much.
As for TRON, I think it's pretty safe to say that it will top the box office the weekend it comes out, but again, LWW had King Kong come out the weekend after it released and LWW did fine. Steady is the key, and while TRON may take away some of the older, male crowd, I can't see it being a hit with family audiences at all. Of course, I could be wrong, but I can't see how a family with small children would look at TRON and say, "Oh, that looks like something the kids would find interesting!". Whereas VdT is colorful, beautiful, and perfect for all ages.
Anyway, I'm not freaking out. You can't control how another movie performs, anyway. Just do your part by VdT, and I think she'll do fine by you.
Just because it isnt a "family film" doesnt mean kids won't see it.
After all tons of little kids watched Lord of the Rings, Spider-man, The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Carribean, Transformers, and of course AVATAR.
Tons of kids saw those, so many will probably see Tron.
Winter Is Coming
But there is almost one family film every winter that breaks out around Christmas time, and I honestly can't think of any other family film that will even be out around Christmas time unless you count Tangled (Repunzel), which comes out in November.

I bet it will turn out like Sherlock Holmes and Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 this past year, or like Gymfan was saying LWW and King Kong. Two movies released very close together during the Christmas movies season, each with at least somewhat different target audiences, and both still doing extremely well financially.
