Meh, I'm not worried about Tron. The first one was kinda dumb and maybe the sequel will pull in the whole nostalgia crowd, but I can't see teenagers and kids just dying to see a sequel to a movie that came out before they were born.

Doesn't it come out in November? I doubt we have to worry about it.

Yes, Harry Potter comes out on the 19th of November. Its big box-office splash will be over when VDT comes out.

The only other possible threats to VDT that I can see are, Tron, The Green Hornet and Gulliver's Travels, all of which are coming out after VDT. As it stands, VDT has its opening weekend all to itself, which is awesome!

The only thing we should be worried about is if the movies supposed to be coming out after VDT get pushed forward into VDT's release week...

but I doubt that would happen. :-??

There's no way they could make it so fast and Fox would never release a Narnia movie and an Avatar sequel too close together, since they're financing both. If they ever did something like that, it would be as stupid as shooting themselves in the foot.

That's one of the benefits of the Fox switch. We'll never have to worry about an 'Avatar' sequel competition for SC or any Narnia movie from now on. Another one is we won't ever be competing with the Percy Jackson sequels, if that franchise ends up working, for the same reason - Fox is making them. Name a Fox franchise. We won't ever compete with it. But we'll probably have WB's HP and the Hobbit on our shoulders for another 2 or 3 years.

As for the Tron sequel and Rapuzel... I'm worried about them only for word of mouth potential. Both movies have been hyped for years now.

Well, it looks like "Meet the Little Focker" is moving from the summer to December 22 of 2010. That's one more you can add to the competition list.

Somehow I really can't imagine the targeted audiences of VDT and that movie overlap very much. :P

^^ I have never heard of that movie. I don't believe it will be a threat unless it turns out to be a hit the way "Tooth Fairy" surprisingly did! and that I very much doubt..... :D

Lol I wouldn't call The Tooth Fairy a surprise hit. A $14 mil opening weekend wouldn't be enough to even put a dent into VDT's box office run.

There's nothing to worry about with Little Fockers. The threequel to Meet the Parents has a completely different target audience, many of whom probably won't even have any desire to see VDT to begin with.

I know some people are worried about a threat from the new Tron film, and maybe I'm not giving it enough credit, but I really don't feel like it is going to be that big of a hit. The first film was released way back in 1982, and only made $33 million domestically. The people who loved that film when it came out might want to see a sequel, but even then, I feel like that isn't a very big crowd, and once again, not necessarily the same market audience that VDT is aimed for.

If anything, I think the biggest threat comes from Rapunzel, and possibly, although less likely, from The Green Hornet.

Supposedly the 3-D technology will be even more advanced than what was used in Avatar. I guess we'll just have to find out. But I must say, I've seen a lot more buzz on the internet for TRON then Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Can't help but be a little anxious to see how it all plays out.

Rapunzel will be dead in the water by the time VDT rolls around. Its release date was pushed clear back to Nov 12... the week before Harry Potter.

Wow, Disney either doesn't care how Rapunzel does or they're extremely confident in it. That's just crazy putting it up against Harry Potter.
