I think Michael Apted was trying to keep continuity from the last two films. for viewers, who may or may not have read the books, they have seen 'Narnians' to be talking animals and fauns and such. so I think it keeps the continuity the same in that respect and I like it.

wolfloversk, I don't think fauns/satyrs were evil in Greek myths. They were mostly neutral, if I remember correctly.
True, though that was only in relation to Greek morality. Fauns/satyrs were fertility spirits and were involved in a lot of, er, fertility activities that a Judeo-Christian worldview would consider sinful. Remember in the book PC where Susan and Lucy meet Bacchus and Silenus, and say that they would be fearful if they weren't with Aslan? Fauns and satyrs were companions of Bacchus and Silenus.
In fact, centaurs were actually more 'evil' to the Greeks than fauns/satyrs since they had a tendency to get drunk and, er, take women, if you know what I mean. There was a big war between humans and centaurs, even.
In Greek mythology there was only one Minotaur, the son of Queen Pasiphae (wife of King Minos) and, er, lets not go into that. He was evil only in the sense that he was kept starving in a labyrinth from which there was no escape, and King Minos fed him captives from Athens.
I wouldn't use Greek mythology as a basis for understanding the fauns, centaurs, and minotaurs of Lewis's Narnia. They're really not the same.

On the subject of creatures on the Dawn Treader, I'm rather ambivalent. I like the good minotaurs because it represents that anyone can be saved - it fits in well with the premise that some take that even demons could be saved if they submitted to God, they just don't.
I do think that fauns and satyrs might have a hard time staying upright on hooves, but maybe they wear some type of faun-shoe that has grippers on it...

I think that it's kinda cool. I could never understand why there were no Narnian creaters on the Dawn Treader.

I wonder, if that is the case, what the grips would be made of. There aren't rubber-producing trees in Calormen, are there?
Though I suppose in the actual movie the fauns/minotaur(s) will just be walking around normally; a hoofed-creature's stability on a ship probably isn't high on the list of filmmaker considerations.

I was thinking something like a horse-shoe, which can be made of iron and such. But you're probably right, they probably just won't go into it.

Ha! Only NarniaWebbers would be discussing how minotaurs and such could keep their balance on the ship. I love it.
You're right, the filmmakers or the average moviegoer for that matter probably won't even notice or think about how the creatures are keeping their balance. I almost wish the filmmakers would go into it though. That could be quite humorous.

^ Hah! Do I have permission to quote that and make it either my sig on here or my FB status, I'll give you credit, you're right though most other people wouldn't notice. I can't see why there wouldn't be rubber producing trees in Calormene

Mmmm, I don't think Calormene has the right climate for rubber trees. Don't they grow in rainforests?
Yea, I'm pretty sure they do
I thought they grew in Australia (needs to look this up) Maybe they'd grow somewhere else like in Ettinsmoor or in the Wild Lands of the North, or some island some where or maybe Narnian rubber doesn't come from trees...

Ettinsmoor would be the one place they would not grow, it was supposed to be a cold, prairie like, hill country, rubber needs a warm climate. and besides it is a tree there weren't trees in Ettinsmoor
Though I think this is getting a little off topic

Yeah, sure, go ahead! Just credit it to MountainFireflower, or Fireflower, or what ever suits you best, of course.
I never really contemplated whether Narnia even has rubber? Do you think they do?
You're right, this is getting off topic. Maybe we should move the Narnian rubber discussion into a different thread...

You guys should open a TaN thread or something. Does Narnia Have Rubber? But yeah, just a bit off-topic. Partly my fault so no modly yellings.
Any animosity I had toward the minotaurs died with Asterius, I think they might have had that scene just so their race could be redeemed. And it worked
Heh, I cheered when Asterius died. Best thing he did in the movie.
