Wahey! Temporary panic over. #:-s

So, sans the witch-y issues, this Seven Swords stuff doesn't sound that bad at all.

I'd much rather they add something like that, which I can see working alongside the Seven Lords, then added something that makes it necessary to completely remove an element of the story.

Now that we got an official confirmation there won't be a witch, I'm very optimistic about the movie. I'd still rather wait to see the whole thing, but it's good to know they actually got it.

When I read the first spoiler about Lucy and Aslan, I was so happy that I was speechless. When I read the second one about Eustace, I was even more happy. Then I read the bit about the Witch and nearly freaked out... until I read that Tirian said he didn't know anything about it, and then the production confirmed that there is no Witch. #:-s So now, I'm very happy. Seems like most everyone who was present at the summit is satisfied with the direction of this movie, even with the Seven Swords, so I'll trust their judgement until I can make judgments of my own.

I am so glad that there isn't going to be a witch! My joy about the spoilers is now complete. Hurray!

I couldn't have said it better myself. Now we all need to try to rewind our lives and imagine the spoiler news story without the witch part. I think we'd be much less critical about the movie.

Well well,
I stand proven (thankfully) wrong.
I original said I was sure they'd change the ending of the film.
Glad to hear the news and I'm glad to hear that there's no witch.
Is the news about there being no witch official?

This is great and the seven sword plot isn't so bad, compared to what they could have done. It's a little annoying that they feel they need to add this, but it's not that bad.

But, doesn't that sort of devalue finding the lords? They're not important enough for Caspian to find them and right the wrong? That sounds more heroic to me than to be practically forced to break a spell, or whatever, to save Narnia... again?
They're sort of doing it again, making the children more powerful and important than Aslan and THEY save Narnia again, not Aslan, who's really in control of the world. <_<

Oh well, we'll see and find out more. Still awesome news. :)

It's a little sad how it's such big news (we even call it a "spoiler!") when the filmmakers confirm that they've included some of the vital scenes from the book...

Of course, considering the uncertainty that's surrounded VDT, I definitely consider this news to be extremely positive, and a massive relief. It seems that (partially due to the summit that was held), the filmmakers really understood the story, and the meaning behind it, before attempting to bring it to film. Getting input from people like Tim Keller was a wonderful idea, and that will doubtless have made a very positive impact on the finished film. At this point, I can't wait for VDT. I feel now that it could end up being close to the masterpiece that we all have imagined.

I also approve of the omission of a witch.

(we even call it a "spoiler!")

The spoiler bit was that part about the seven swords of the seven Lords. Not in the book. ;) :)

What an encouraging article! :) When I first saw the title "Will the Dawn Treader Float?", I got a little nervous. How awesome that the two most talked about, crucial scenes in the book are well-thought out and remain faithful (so it seems). I love what the vision for the film sounds like and my expectations have definitley rose.

I was disheartened to hear about the Lady of the Green Kirtle, but thank God she's not going to be in it. Whether or not these "Seven Swords of the Seven Lords" will be present, I think I'll be able to deal with them better than the witch.

The countdown continues...

I don't want to go through all 4 pages of this thread.

Anyway, I don't mind about the "seven swords" bit because it occurred to me the other day that this might be a medieval thing. In TV and film westerns from the 1930s onward, a man's best friend was his horse. They were inseparable. I think the same could be said for a man's sword in medieval times, you know chivalry and all that. Remember the modern-day Lancelot retelling First Knight (1992)? I loved the movie, even though I know it's not one bit close to the original tale. Anyway, a man's best friend in those days was his sword! They were inseparable.

Just something to think about... :)

Hmmm.........maybe. But why are the swords important to the quest? What do the swords being inseparable from the lords have to do with the plot?(my questions are not questioning you, they are merely my own random musings in my confused mind trying to piece everything together into a coherent story) It makes sense that a knight's sword is his best friend, but what does that add to the story? Why did the filmmakers feel that they needed to include this point? If that is the point?
If the swords were important to the quest, I would say having a witch makes sense because somehow the swords of the seven lords are supposed to stop the spell. But because there isn't a witch, I don't know what to think. :-

Not too inseparable i hope! Caspian will have a hard time trying to convince Lord Bern to part company with his sword otherwise! ;)

Here! Here! I'm not worried about the Seven Swords. In any case I think that at least one sword is found without its owner, the Narnian Lord who became a gold statue at the bottom of a pool on Deathwater Island, and it might be the only way to identify who he was.

Here is a photo of the bell. Lord Mavramorn is the only one who is easily identified.
