I was just wondering.....when Caspian jumps off the ship in VotDT to rescue the Pevensies and Eustace, in the book it discribes that Lucy thought he looked familier, but she didn't reconise him until she was on the deck of the Dawn Treader. will they filmmakers try to amke it so you can't see Caspian properly until they are on board, or will you see him right away?

what do ya'll think?

Well I always assumed that the reason she didn't recognize him immediately was because she was in the ocean and he had aged three years since she had last seen him. I don't think they'll need to have him wear a disguise.

But since you brought this up, I thought I'd mention that I always thought it odd that Lewis had the King of Narnia jumping into the ocean to rescue some people that suddenly appeared in the water. Seems a bit risky to me. I wonder if they'll even have Caspian be the one that jumps overboard. There is at least some evidence of him being soaking wet during the movie. ;))

fantasia_kitty: if you want evedince that Caspian jumps over board, look at the pictures for VotDT on this site: www.skandar-keynes.net ! it has some pictures of Caspian and the Pevensies looking like they have had a dip! :)

You misunderstood me. ;)) I've seen dozens of pictures of Caspian, Edmund and Lucy soaking wet.

But what I meant is that even though they're all wet, it doesn't mean that has to be the scene when Caspian jumps in to save the Pevensies. It certainly seems to suggest that since I don't see any other crew members soaking wet, but based on the past movies, I can't assume a little snippet is from the scene I think it is. Does that make sense?

Some other sailors that aren't quite so important as the King of Narnia could jump in to get them. :D

If Edmund, Lucy and Eustace aren't too far away from the boat, then I'm sure Caspian could have recognized their faces. Maybe he won't think about it and jump in to save them out of excitement! Suddenly seeing children drowning who weren't there a second ago could only mean Magic! ;)

Caspian wouldn't have to be in disguise for Lucy to not recognise him at first. He would look older for one. Also Lucy, Edmund and Eustace would be in waters for some time and there would be a lot of sunlight reflecting off the water (that would make it even harder to see anything but perhaps silhouettes in the distance).

Why did King Caspian jump in the water? Because he's a good king, like Good King Wenceslas :)

I think C.S. Lewis wanted to show him as a sincerely good, self-sacrificing, humble, caring king. That's what makes the scene towards the end so shocking when he loses it with Reep, before Aslan's face puts him back in his place.

Why didn't Lucy recognize him? Boys' appearances can change dramatically with just a few years of maturity. And "book" Prince Caspian was still just a tweener, right?

It was only the beginning of the true story, which goes on forever, and in which every chapter is better than the one before.

all of us narniawebbers know that Caspian has a beard, but for those who are not following production, this will be a surprise, and sort of a disguise of sorts..... :)

This is a great example of something that's very easy to do in a book, but difficult to pull off in a movie.

I think the key here is to just not have a "reveal" shot for Caspian until they are all on board the ship. I'm not saying don't show his face. Just don't make a big deal out of it until they are on board. Make the audience figure out its Caspian instead of telling them (like with a close-up or something).

Maybe they'll do it like in the BBC Version. Caspian had just came up to her and she yelled his name instead of in the book where she was on deck and muttered Caspian.

They might do it differently this time like maybe waves are crashing onto her so much that she is probably constantly closing her eyes and couldn't see that it was Caspian.
Just a guess.

^^ exactly! that is what I was thinking! if they could somehow show Caspian jumping in the water, but not show his face.....but that could be hard! or, maybe they won't disguise him......but that could be hard too. I have no idea what they will do! so I will wait for the movie...... :)

I think this is a valid point. Caspian has longer hair and a beard in VDT. Casual moviegoers might not recognize him right away, especially if they didn't pay much attention to PC.

I certainly hope the filmmakers don't put Caspian in a disguise. That seems awfully dumb. Why would the King of Narnia disguise himself?? That makes no sense.
