If they had established Caspian's reverence of the Pevensies and anything relating to the old days in PC, Caspian having Rhindon wouldn't bother me so much. But they didn't do that. Rarley in these films have we gotten a sense of awe and reverence in the characters.
I don't think that i like the idea of Caspian beating Edmund. We can't see the end of the duel so we don't know for certain. The cheering might suggest Caspian wins, but they might cheer for Edmund as well.
I just think Edmund became really good with a sword and would beat Caspian in a duel. I always wondered what would have happened if they had gone at it on Deathwater Island. Though in the book Caspian was a lot younger and Edmund had been using a sword a lot longer.
In PC the book, Trumpkin doesn't believe that the Pevensies are anything but kids. Edmund suggests a friendly duel to prove him wrong. And Edmund WINS. This shows that Edmund is a fairly good sword-fighter in PC. By VDT, he ought to be excellent, good enough to beat Caspian.
I don't mind saying I can't wait to see Edmund in VDT. I thought he got very little attention in PC - everything was about Peter or Caspian. I hope they let Edmund shine in VDT. Skandar is a really great actor.

I am kind of wondering if this is Edmund practicing sword fighting after taking a year off.
I is Lava, how I got that name is a long story, but I is Lava
hmmm, i don't know quite what to make of this.....
maybe Caspian is using Edmund to show Eustace how to duel?

I do hope they don't unleash some angst-fest, testosterone-laden duel on us like in the last movie. If Caspian picks a fight with Edmund like he constantly did with Peter, I'm going to vote to feed him to the Sea Serpent.

I'm wondering the same thing. Maybe Caspian wanted to see if Edmund "still had it." I just hope there is no arguing between Edmund and Caspian.

Nobody said Caspian is using Edmund's sword.
I think Tumnus might mean "How can you tell Caspian is using Peter's sword?" At least, I assume so. I'm wondering the same, actually, since I can't tell from the distance.

didnt they say there will be more "buddy-bantering" between Caspian and Edmund? i think the sparring is an example of the kind of relationship that they will be having. i hope they manage to get that funny mocking/jokester relationship Ben and Skandar has with each other because its fun to watch, plus it plays well onscreen. we were able to sample Skandar's inherent talent in this arena when Edmund was setting up the duel with Mraz in the previous film. given that these actors are pretty much cast to type, it would be nice to let their personalities shine through when setting up the relationships between characters.

you mean Peter's sword? there are several videos and spy photos that confirms the sword Caspian uses is Rhindon. you can tell by the lionhead design on the handle.

I'll vote that too, provided they don’t switch things around and have Deathwater before the serpent. That and at the end of the world is the only time they should come near fighting. (While we’re at it can we vote to feed the minotaurs to the Sea Serpent? )
I still don’t see how if a sword has a lion’s head, it has to be Rhindon. It could be a sword Caspian had made in the old style. (In the book, he was glad to trade his Telmarine sword for a dwarf made one, so maybe he had a dwarf make him a sword with a lion’s head). I’ll admit it is probably more likely to be Rhindon but it might not be.

I have two guesses.
One is that they're probably training or teaching Eustace.
Two is that they're probably having fun.
I was going to say mistaken identity again, but that's stupid to guess...
In the first place, where did Edmund get the sword from, and second, they look dry already.
More and more, I'm getting the feeling that the filmmakers just don't "get it."
That is quite a serious accusation to be throwing at the filmmakers there, based on what is in my opinion, very little evidence.
Especially since i don't think its even a given that using Peter's sword automatically equals a lack of reverence. The example you used was of someone who had "obtained the actual declaration of independence, and decided to use it to write a letter on" That is a fair enough point, but how a different example....
What if you had received a gift from someone important. Would you automatically not use it because they had given it to you? Would it not be showing more reverence to actually use the gift as they had intended, rather than locking it away somewhere like a bad christmas sweater from an elderly relative.
Father Christmas himself, when he gave Peter the sword, said that they were "tools, not toys". They are not supposed to be kept "mint in box". They are supposed to be used.
I think Caspian using Peter's Sword shows exactly the right amount of reverence for King Peter and the old ways of Narnia, far more than it would do if he had shunned the sword bequeathed to him, in favour of using his own Telmarine one.
