I've been watching this adaptation comparison series for a while now and they are some of the best videos on youtube. In his most recent video, LWW is in the hot seat. Time to decide which version of the first Narnia book is better once and for all. Or at least have a good discussion over the videos points. Either way is fine.

Oh, and I agree with the final result.
I feel like this reviewer is sticking strictly to the words on the page and not allowing Lewis to suggest rather than say (which made the world feel as if it wasn't limited to what was on the page). The thing that made Lewis so amazing as a writer was how much he could convey with so little. This is an easy pit to fall into when over-analyzing: Squinting at something so hard that you can't actually see what it is.
But that's just my point of view. There is something about the way Lewis writes that speaks directly to my heart. If it doesn't speak to you, you're not stupid. You're just not the kind of person it speaks to.
I strongly disagree with his interpretation of Edmund. Did he read chapter 8 at all? Edmund clearly made a choice in the book to betray his siblings. It wasn't just the Turkish Delight. If it wasn't his choice, Lewis wasted many pages describing his internal struggle. For the movie, it was a good decision to not have the enchanted turkish delight, because we can't hear his thoughts, and therefore can't hear his struggle. On film it would have seemed like the green mist: Like he was just under a spell and couldn't control his actions.
I love what he says about Aslan not being as intimidating in the movie.
He spends waaay too much time trying to make LWW into an allegory for the story of Christ, to the point of making the book sound really shallow. It's the first point he makes, and he goes on and on. It is not an allegory. Aslan is a Christ-like figure, but simply labeling the book an allegory is simply inaccurate and an annoying oversimplification. "Oh yeah, that's kind of like Jesus" is really really shallow.
Yeah, it's a good video but I don't fully agree with him either. The only part I enjoy in the movie more than the book is the battle (excluding the weird motion-blur sped-up look towards the end), oh and I love Tilda Swinton's more subtle but still seductive take on the White Witch (I just wish she was a bit more otherwordly in her beauty).
