[Closed] After Avatar, VDT will come out in 3D

After Avatar's Box Office success in December of 2009, I guarantee that VDT will come out in 3D. Fine, maybe not a 100% guarantee, but I'm 99% sure that it will. Reasons why? Because Avatar was a HUGE success in the box office with over 2.6 billion dollars- #1 btw, for those who haven't checked the box office. All time gross. Ever since Avatar, many more movies are being converted in post production to 3D. Take Alice in Wonderland for example, it was shot in 2D but converted into 3D during edits.

Another thing about Avatar was their usage of 3D. They didn't throw stuff at you just for the sake of 3D. maybe one or two times but thats the minimum. Instead, Avatar immersed you into the movie so much that you felt like you were there. (Well it was for me B-) ) I think Michael Apted would want to accomplish the same thing. Immersing the audience into Narnia and its magic. or the magic of the Islands. Do you agree or disagree? and why?

Also, let me just add that both Avatar and VDT are being distributed by 20th Century Fox.

Reasons why VDT will be in 3D
1) Hope to be as successful as Avatar was at the box office
2) Using the 3D to immerse the audience into the movie instead of throwing objects at the screen. (Similar to Avatar)
3) VDT is being distributed by 20th Century Fox (who also distributed Avatar)
4) A lot of movies will be coming out in 3D especially after Avatar. The trend would be to release a 3D VDT and a 2D VDT and definitely an IMAX VDT. Narnia is still one of those franchises which are a huge hit.

Wants the 3 disc DVD BD soo badly. Is loving the season and anxiously awaiting VDT. Cheers to Aragorn.

I hope it isn't in 3D. I see it as a gimmick. Fun for a spell but not something I want to see every movie using.
Also, I doubt they will use 3D for VDT (unless it's already planned). There were budget costs this time around, due to the smaller numbers of viewers and the recession. That says to me that we will see VDT in glorious 2D. I can only hope.

i too hope it will not be in 3D. Although it is fun for some movies, i just dont' like the idea of Narnia in 3D.

I'm not too crazy about it either. Narnia was not meant to be in 3D....its fine just the way it is. :)

I think I would be fine if it was 3D, but only if they don't include any of the obvious "made-for-3D" tricks (i.e. something shooting out of the screen at the audience). Those always look really bad after the DVD comes out and you have to watch it on a normal TV screen in 2D. They end up kind of fuzzy and make the rest of the movie look poorly done. But 3D movies that have little to no cheap 3D tricks in them are actually pretty good (like Bolt). So I guess I would say that I'm in the middle. If they do it correctly, Narnia in 3D would very likely be a huge hit. And think about it...who wouldn't want to see the entrance to Narnia through the picture if it was in 3D?? I know I'd want to see that. :D B-)

I remember the big debate about this before. I'm still pretty excited about 3D, I mean, I agree with Fire Fairy, when stuff is obviously put in for 3D it's rather annoying, but otherwise it can be really good.

I see what you are saying lamppostshines! and I think you've got something there. Avatar really has changed the way a lot of people think about 3D (evidently not everyone!), and I think we will certainly see an increase in the amount of 3D films in our cinemas. I pretty sure I read somewhere that Warner Bros are going to make all the rest of their films 3D compatible, or something.

That being said, the budget issue W4J mentioned and the fact that it would have to be changed in editing (like Alice in Wonderland), seeing as it wasn't shot for 3D . . I think it would bee too much. Perhaps I'm wrong, they might think 3D will receive a greater return. Only time will tell - 3D or 2D, I'm easy as a Sunday morning!

Like me. ;)) I don't care for 3D and would pass on seeing VDT if it were released in 3D. Ernie Malik confirming it was not shot in 3D was a great relief.

3D is just plain uncomfortable for me. Saw Avatar once. It was an alright movie but I pass on ever seeing again only because of that format.

I think it would be so awesome to see the Dawn Treader itself in 3D sailing on the ocean, or the entrance in the painting as Fire Fairy said, or so many other things. I'm sure it would really involve viewers if properly done. But throwing stuff at them (the viewers) would be a biiig no-no. [-( I haven't seen much 3D but VDT is not the type of movie in which stuff should be thrown at the viewers. It just seems to be trying to remind us, "Remember, you're watching in 3D!" Otherwise, the only inconvenience I could see would be having to wear 3D glasses, but I think it would be worth it. :p Although seeing VDT in 3D might get me wanting to see the other two movies in 3D also!

Avatar was shot with 3D cameras and was meant from the beginning to be a 3D film. Alice in Wonderland was not shot in 3D, but it was from its inception designed to be a 3D film. The upcoming Clash of the Titans is really the first film to be shot as a 2D film, but then converted to 3D in post. Early reviews of the film say that the converted 3D looks odd and subpar, especially when compared to Avatar or even Alice.

Studios are really getting into pushing movies into 3D. I am completely against this. As I stated in the rumor thread, I don't have anything against movies being released in 3D...when they are designed and shot as 3D films, i.e- Avatar. What I don't condone are studios going in after the fact and converting films that were meant to be released in standard 2D into 3D for the sole purpose of making money. What this does is takes the director's vision for the film and completely morphs it into something different.

As much as I am looking forward to Clash of the Titans, I will without a doubt be seeing it in 2D, and frankly hope that it fails financially so that studios will see that just having a movie be released in 3D does not mean that moviegoers will go out in droves to see it.

Even if VDT does get converted in post production, then great for 20th Century Fox, but I will still being seeing the film as Michael Apted intended for it to be seen, in 2D.

Each time I go to the cinema it seems more and more of the trailers are for movies coming in 3D. I imagine part of this is due to the success of Avatar.

But as bkey notes, those upcoming films were designed to be shot in 3D, with the exception of Clash of the Titans (which I'll likely see in 2D). I suppose it's possible VDT could be 'retrofitted' in this way - with theatres offering it in both 3D and 2D, as, for example, Avatar and Alice in Wonderland were here.

If 3D continues to increase in popularity, however (and if VDT is successful enough) then it's possible that SC might be in 3D.

Hope to be as successful as Avatar was at the box office

I think if the VDT box-office take is even 25% of Avatar's, it would qualify as a success large enough to get SC greenlit.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

For starter, I'm really frustrated at movie studios for forcing a lot of movies to be made into 3-D, I like 3D but I don’t want every movie to come out in 3-D! 8-}
Rumors right now are that Paramount is forcing Michael Bay into making Transformers 3 3D even though he doesn’t want to! =; The Hobbit is also rumored for 3-D even though both Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro said before Avatar that it wasn’t going to be and now their saying it might since studios started talking to them!
Now on the other hand, I think if a film is made for 3D from start to finish like Avatar (I Loved the 3D in Avatar! :) ) I would feel better about certain movies. :)
Clash of the Titans (I can’t wait to see that movie) is a good example, I bet if they had made that film for 3D from start to finish it would be an awesome 3D movie, but since it was converted at the last moment, being made for 2D I doubt it will even come close to Avatar as far as 3D goes! [-(

Back on subject, I really, really, really, don’t want to see VDT in 3D =; , I would like to see it as a 2D IMAX movie :) , but not a 3D one! It’s not the end of the world if the decide to make it 3D (it might even help), I can still see it in 2D, But I’m 100% against VDT being a 3D movie! [-( ;)

Oh, and not to stray off subject, but does anyone else think that IMAX 3D is 100% better then normal 3D? :- ;)

Since we already have a thread in Rumors discussing the possibility of VDT in 3D, I'm locking this thread. Please continue the discussion in the thread I'm linking to.
