what if they borrow the part from SC where Eustace talks to a dragon and it goes away without harming them?

That was actual a scene from the BBC's version of SC and not from the book.

Oops. I could have sworn it was in the book! But since I'm visiting my grandma (without my books!) I couldn't check... Ah!

You know, I liked how MA said VDT was "bigger" than the Bond movie he directed, but that it was also psychological. He also said the movie give him headaches.

Mr. Apted seems to know the difference between a "big" movie and a good one. Maybe he means VDT to be both.

I'm really hoping Eustace is not the dragon at the end- but at the other hand, this could be a really redeeming scene for him.
It would work out, wouldn't it? Eustace as a jerk for the first bit, getting better slowly throughout his transformation, and finally being brave at the end. Of course they would be all cinematic about it and have him look all limp and injured and possibly dead before he transforms and comes back all happy... oh dear I hope they don't do it that way because I've seen it a hundred times before in other films.

I hope Eustace comes back before the battle. I really do. :(

it's funny, but the part about the huge battle with a dragon and a sea serpent didn't bother me. it's the part that says that this happens at the end that sent me in ful fledged panick! ahh! what on earth is that all about! this is going to get VERY interesting.....

I like how Mr. Apted is saying that VDT is going to be more psychological and character-driven, because at least that means that the film probably won't try to be all "epic".
I'm not too annoyed with the fight, as long as it isn't too close to the end of the movie (meaning that they MUST include Reep's farewell and the conversation with Aslan or I will be very angry), and that Eustace won't get un-dragoned via the "noble sacrifice" route ( X( ).
Oh, well, I'm going to try to not get too worked up over the change, because there's not much we can do about it until VDT comes out. :)

I can see it now. Eustace fights the sea serpent, kills it, but is apparently drug down into the depths by the serpent. Everyone gets all mournful and teary-eyed, thinking Eustace is dead. But then the sea people bring him up out of the depths, all limp and dying. Just when it looks like all hope is lost, he transforms back into a human, everyone gets excited and Aslan shows up to tell them it's time to go home. He completely avoids mentioning that he can be found on Earth and substitutes some cheesy power-of-believing-in-yourself message and everyone lives happily ever after.

Pardon me while I go vomit.

Bookwyrm, those were my exact thoughts but you expressed them much more articulately. I am really, really hoping this does not happen.

Apted said "apart from a huge battle at the end with a sea serpent and a dragon" (funny how those fifteen words can cause such a ruckus) which is rather vague.
If he had said "at the last scene" or something similar I might have given up all hope, but perhaps Mr. Apted did not mean at the very end?

The interview said that Apted was "clearly tired but too polite to admit he's too busy to chat". Maybe he didn't have time to be clear and detailed and only meant towards the end of the movie.

Otherwise, I think this little Narniac may be crushed. :(

Seriously though, I wonder if the dragon is Eustace and if he becomes a dragon on the ship or something. Not sure how well that will work though.

As for Eustace and the dragon situation, here's what I care about most. 1, that we get a sufficient amount of time to see him as the pill and as the friend of Narnia (like the book did). 2, that the transformation from the book involving Aslan and the pool is almost identical.

I hope they aren't going to have Eustace as a dragon ride on board the ship until the end of the movie.....that would be awful! :(

Ah, me... Oh, my... Dragon Eustace gets be the real hero by saving the ship from the Sea-serpent. I jolly well hope that Dragon teeth are more effective than Caspian's second best sword. ;))

I don't think they'd do that. In the book, Eustace helped them in repairing the ship. In the new film, they may have him helping in a different way. I'm not opposed to that intrinsically, but I'd have to hear what they plan to do with it.

Or maybe there are multiple living dragon on the island and eustace makes friends with them when he is a dragon...

Or you know how they're planning to consolidate the islands maybe they have the ship leaving eustace behind and he follows them for a short while, and then having the sea monster attack the ship then.

The ship is designed like a dragon so I think it's safe to say that dragons will be playing a bigger part then they did in the book.

I'm pretty sure the only reason for the ship being designed like a dragon is that it was described that way in the book; I don't think it has anything to do with dragons playing a larger role in the movie.
