base hospital
I was surprised to see that used here on NW! That is only used here in the US in Emergency Medical Services. It refers to the hospital that coordinates the ambulance service's care for patients and education, etc for the medics.
In NSW, the many base hospitals are hospitals in larger country towns that owe their beginnings to army, navy and airforce bases established in WW2 or earlier, before becoming a normal part of the State public hospitals. They are generalised district referral centres for specialised services eg cancer treatment, heart surgery etc.
