Red car at the moment, especially if it is a lovely and unique burgundy or ruby colour, and not the fire engine red most car manufacturers have as one of their basic colours. ;)

Gifts. Buying a gift means the recipient has something to unwrap, while a gift card says "I couldn't be bothered to get you a real present."

Here I'd say train, as government-run train services are more predictable than are privately-run bus services.
