"Where are you, Tom and Sam?" she hoarsely called out to the night that surrounded her.

"Jen?" Sam's voice softly rang in the empty space, and Jen felt more desperate to figure out where her friends were.

"Please don't leave me here alone!" she cried.

"Your friends are trapped," The star commented. "In fact, they've been trapped in star bodies, just like I have."

Jen looked more closely at the star. She could see a face!
"Who are you? How do I get my friends back?" Jen asked.

The star replied, "My name is Jork. In order to get your friends back, you must travel to your hometown, and find the telephone pole with the purple stripe. It will give you further instructions on how to set me free. Then I will set them free."

Jen was confused. Telephone pole with a purple stripe?
But she just said, "How do I get home?"

He replied, "I will send you there by my laugh -- HA!"
And suddenly, Jen was standing on a roadside. A bird few down and dropped something in her hand. Jen looked at it. It was a compass.

Jen followed the compasse's direction and was home so quick, she almost thought she'd dreamed it.

"Hello, sweetie," her mom called out; "You've been gone awhile."
"Yeah, I have..." Jen's voice trailed off. She looked at her mother strangely. Why was she acting like her daughter had been gone only a few extra hours more than normal, when she had been gone possibly for months?
"Where is Sam?" Jen's mom asked.

Jen tried to look as if she'd only been out for a walk, not off on some weird adventure. "Oh, he had to go home and i walked him there."

Jen's mom, who's name was Cayley, said, "When was that? His mom called and said she hasn't seen him for a month! And I haven't seen you in ages either!"

Jen gasped. a month? yikes! they'd been gone for a long time!

Jen opened her mouth to tell her her mom about saving Sam and Tom, but then she gasped. "You're not my mother! Your eyes are purple while Mom's were pink!"

The fake Cayley grinned kindly and mischeviously and replied, "No, I am in fact the keeper of the Telephone with the purple stripe." Then, she transformed into her natural form.

Which was, of course, a Balrog.
Jen screamed, and tried to run to the telephone pole before the Balrog got there. But the Balrog was too fast for her, and got between her and the telephone pole.
"You shall not pass!" the Balrog cried. (He had always wanted to say that)

Jen tried to calm down. She had to get past this Balrog or Sam and Tom would not be saved! But how!?

Jen stood there, wondering what to do. Then, things got worse.
Up ahead, she could see three wargs coming to back up the Balrog. At first they pretended to be fierce; but then one winked at her when the Balrog wasn't looking, as if to say, "Don't worry. We're actually on your side."

Jen was wary. "How can I know that's true?"
She backed away from the beast.

The wargs gasped. When Jen answered their secret message, it let the Balrog know that they were secretly on her side. The Balrog turned the Wargs into little puddles of Butterscotch pudding. "Well, how 'bout that?" the Balrog laughed. "You have betrayed your only allies in this little battle..."

Jen stared at the Balrog for a minute, not fully comprehending what she had done. Then she screamed.
