"No," the vampire said. "You know me alright. You are my father, after all!" Steve cried for joy, and gave Sam a great big hug.

As Steve was hanging on Sam weeping, Sam squirmed uncomfortably and tried to push the crazy vampire away. Who ever heard of a vampire that was so fond of family? Not, of course, that Sam was family.
Then Sam heard a voice saying, "What is going on here?" It was Jen!

Sam looked up and saw Jen standing, gaping at him.
"Who on earth is that?" Jen said.
Sam shrugged. "He's a vampire named Steve."
Steve cried harder. "You know me!"
Sam was disgusted. "I don't know you! Get off of me!"

Steve cried so hard his heart would break. "Why are you disowning me? Was it because I was bad? Was it because I . . . took the last cookie from the cookie jar?"

Suddenly Sam felt kinda bad, "Well, no, it's 'cause-"
"Then you do know me!" cried Steve joyfully, his tears vanishing in an instant. He grabbed Sam's hand, "Come on! I'll show you my house!"
"Uhh," began Sam, but Steve either didn't hear or ignored him and began to drag him away.

Sam wasn't shocked when he saw the house Steve was leading him to. It looked like a typical vampire house in any lame vampire TV show.
Steve dragged Sam up the front walk and called, "Annie! Father has returned!"

A young girl stepped out of the house. Her expression blank, just staring at them, she didn't say a word. She looked pretty normal. That is, until...

She smiled. Her face may have been pretty, but her teeth were a mess. her hair was greasy and the color of fire.
Sam bit back a cry of terror.

The girl looked at Sam and seemed to recognize him. "Daddy!" she cried. "Oh, Daddy, I haven't seen you since the war!"

Sam gulped, "The- the war?"
Jen moved closer to him and stood behind his shoulder, "Sam, have you been married all this time and never told me?" Her voice was not angry, but astonished and slightly injured.
"Of course not!" Sam gasped, horrified that Jen would even let such a thought cross her mind, "I don't know what they're talking about!"

"Not know?" repeated the little girl. "Why, Daddy! Don't you remember the attacks? The battles between the Krombles and the Doogles?"

Sam felt his head swirling, "Krombles and- Doogles!?"
"Why yes," said the little girl, "What's wrong Daddy? Why don't you remember? Did you get hit in the head or something?"
"I'm beginning to wonder the same thing," muttered Sam to himself. "Someone please tell me I'm delirious or something."

"I'm afraid not," said Steve. "I've seen it before. I hate to admit it, but... I think we might be part of the life you live while you... sleepwalk."

Then poor Sam really and truly fainted- again. He had a vague idea of someone kissing his cheek and hot tears splashing on his forehead. The only sensation that was not vague was the smell of very bad breath.

"Oh Daddy, please wake up!" he heard a voice cry. It was Steve's sister (who's name, by the way, was Alice-Jane) "If you don't wake up soon, who will make us dinner?"
