Is there anything worth seeing around there?

Did you ever see or hear about a 1955 film called, in UK, Jedda the Uncivilised, made by Charles Chauvel, & set in Katherine Gorge, in the Northern Territory?
Were there any other films made in the Northern Territory?

Have you heard or seen documentaries about Cyclone Tracy, which flattened Darwin @ Christmas in 1974, or the 1942 bombing of Darwin, known as Australia's Pearl Harbour?
Has Darwin been destroyed and rebuilt more times than any other Australian city?

How many other Australian cities of any size have needed rebuilding after natural disasters since 1974?
Er... does the Great Wonthaggi Microburst of 1993 count?

What about all those towns which were destroyed in the 2009 bushfires?
Do you think that was Australia's worst disaster ever?
(just pausing in the game to confess I was so busy making a joke about my local area (Wonthaggi is the next town to where I grew up) that I honestly didn't think of Black Saturday and I feel ashamed )

How can we be sure we aren't already in the middle of Australia's worst disaster ever, right now?

Actually it was your mention of Wonthaggi that made me think of the Black Saturday disasters in Victoria. This morning I woke up to find 70 odd bushfires up around northern New South Wales, & southern Queensland. No wonder if our
How come you've even heard of Wonthaggi?

(Oh gosh, I hadn't heard about that — we don't get a lot of news about Oz in the UK unless it's a tourist getting eaten by a croc or lost in the desert etc. And this is really early in the season for bushfires. )

Have you heard of the 2013 bushfires in Lithgow, Yellow Rock & in other places in the Blue Mountains, near Sydney, in the first half of October, four years after the Gippsland bush fires?
Have the latest fires been brought under control yet?

How would one go about controlling fires?

Haven't you watched on TV the news bulletins which also list the procedures to take to help minimise bushfires?

I assume that from you this would also be a genuine question. I'm not sure yet, but hopefully we will get some rain this arvo. Northern NSW & southern QLD have taken a battering.
