Lillian you have such adorable pets. I especially liked Ladybug, Dachshunds are my favorite dogs. I really wish I had one, I was supposed to get one for my sixteenth birthday, but our landlord doesn't allow dogs sigh, I'm almost eighteen and still no dog....but I still hopeful
Pattertwigs Pal I hope Aravis is alright
Ithilwen I'm sorry about Billy
Yesterday De_De and I got a new pet, we saved out Christmas money, put it together and got a guinea pig. We bought her from a man and his sister who used to breed guinea pigs but now they want to breed some other rodents and so are selling all their guinea pigs. These people phoned and wanted to buy them to use them as feed for birds of prey, so the man was selling the guinea pigs for one fifth the usual price, hoping others would buy them so they wouldn't become some bird's dinner. We literally saved our little critter from imminent death
De_De and I disagreed for a good while on what to name her. She very black so we wanted something elegant for her, I had ideas, De_De had ideas, but we couldn't agree, finally my older sister stepped in and suggested Vanessa "Like Vanessa Mae" she said, and so we named her Vanessa and then De_De really wanted to add the Mae too, she said the two words go well together, Vanessa Mae is all black with a tinsy little white spot on her nose, but you can hardly see it, she is six months old and some sort of full breed, but I can't remember the name . so here she is Vanessa Mae (and if anyone is wondering no she doesn't play the violin....yet
) We call her Nessie for short
She's a little over weight so we have too keep her on a diet and she's not so happy about it cause as it turns out she really loves to eat.
She very shy, but loves it when we pet her or scratch behind her ears. Nessie still gets scared easily, and hids in her little home, other than that she s quite tame and eats out of our hands
always be humble and kind
^^ Vanessa Mae is adorable, wild rose!!! I love her name as well!

Hey guys!
You may remember that I told you that my little brother had a English spot rabbit. Well, when we came home Saturday night we found that Peter (his name is Peter) had died while we were gone. We really don't know what happened. He hadn't eaten the past day or so, but we didn't really think anything about it because other than that, he had been fine. My brother is taking it pretty hard. We had only had him about a year.
@ Pattertwigs Pal: I'm happy that Aravis is better!!!

awww I'm so sorry about Peter Lillian, I know how it feels to lose a pet, I'll be praying for your brother
Nessie is probably going to go to the vet tomorrow, when we bought her her nails were in terrible condition and my friend, who knows more about guinea pigs than I do, said that the are so long and thick that's it's pretty dangerous for us to cut them ourselves so we will take her to the vet, I just have to phone and scedual and appointment. So far she is being unbeliveably lazy, it's no wonder she is so over weight, she does nothing but eat and sleep all day. When we let her out of her cage she just sits in the middle of the floor doing nothing. My brother-in-law was pushing her around like a car cause he wanted her to move. Well for one thing her very long claws are bothering her so I hope when we get the clipped she will be more active.
I also found out the name of her breed, Vanessa is an English Self, and they come in a lot of different colors but black is the most popular. From what I read Self's are considered a very elegant and aristocratic breed

^^ Thanks wild rose!! I know he will really appreciate it!

We took Nessie to the vet and she absolutely hated it there, poor thing. She still doesn't like to do hardly anything but she is a tinsy bit more active. We let her out of her cage and she was exploring one of our bottom shelves and started chewing my loom we didn't notice at first and now it's all chewed up at one part
This really funny thing happened yesterday, we have this huge teddy bear that usually sits on my bed but for some reason it was on the floor, I let Nessie out of her cage and left the room. When I came back she wasn't anywhere and I called out 'Nessie' and at that precise moment the teddy bear started to shake a bit from one side to the other. Nessie was sitting behind it and was bumping it for some reason. Our bird Robin is getting a bit jealous of Nessie and all the attention she is getting, poor little guy, I started paying a good deal of attention to him, talking to him and telling him all sort of nice things. I hope he calms down soon

Hi all,
I have two cats, whose names are Lucy and Smokey. Lucy is obviously named after Lucy from Narnia. I named Smokey after a horse my grandma used to have. Lucy is a big baby. She gets scared at the drop of a hat! Smokey is more out-going and loving. Right after we got Smokey, Lucy did not like him at all. However, she did warm up to him after a few days and then she started treating Smokey like he was her baby. Even now when Smokey is 2 1/2 and Lucy is 3 1/2, Lucy will still bathe him and love on him. In the picture, Lucy is the blond cat and Smokey is the black cat. I found them like this one morning when I came into the living room and they were snuggling

Hey again all. Those are some really cute pets
Life's been kinda lonely without Patchy around, but at least we still have the hamster. She's hilarious too, pretty freindly besides the fact that she likes to nip people from time to time. I think my dad's been bonding with her a lot since I've been at college.
He was talking about maybe getting another rabbit in the spring, although my mom's not to thrilled with the idea. But I told him if he does I'm picking it out
For myself however, I've been doing some research on guinea pigs and I might get one next semester.
Before either of those though I have a question for all of you previous/current guinea pig and/or rabbit owners. I'm pretty sure now that Patchy ended up choking to death on his food, and I really don't ever want to see that happen again so I've been trying to look up how to help them and I only found a little bit on rabbits. So I was wondering if anybody would know what I should do if a guinea pig or rabit is choking?
Other than that I seriously recommend all of you ask your vets what to do if your pet is choking, because there are methods for some, like CPR or the Heimlich, but it varies by species. I never found out anything about it in any care guides, and I never had the slightest idea of what to do 'til it was too late. But this is definitely something I would ask the vet about.

I'm so sorry about Patchy:( But you raise a very good point. I have two cats and would not know what to do if they were choking. Now I will make sure to find out. Once again, so sorry for your loss

I adopted a kitten from the animal shelter today! This is the first cat I've ever owned (though I have taken care of them over one summer before).
Her name is Daisy.

Riella your kitten is so cute
Vanessa Mae died this morning. About a week ago she stopped eating and we took her to the vet and he said she had an infection. He prescribed medicine and told us to come again in a few days. Nessie wasn't doing any better when we took her back and the vet told us that she wasn't fighting for survival. She died this morning
De_De and were morally prepared that she might die so it's not a shock.) We will bury her today if we can dig past the frozen ground.
