[usually called The South Island, the larger of New Zealand's two main islands - and yes, the other is The North Island!]
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

(We Aussies can't talk, with two of our states — one of them taking up about a third of the whole continent — sporting the brilliantly original names of South Australia and Western Australia)

Tobruk, Libya, North Africa. (A town which was besieged in WW2. The eventually successful defendants, many of them Australian troops, were called The Rats of Tobruk.)
