Xanthus would have even been unprepared.

A great many people from the Bible were unprepared when Angels arrived.

Historically and in literature, there have been some beautiful donkeys, such as Balaam's donkey, the donkey Jesus rode, and of course Puzzle.

Jacks and Jennys are very cute from an aesthetic standpoint even if you don't like their personalities.

Lots of people still ride donkeys today, such as in the middle east.
