Yes I did. I did have a 10 hour car ride though, and I didn't do anything else during the ride.

I really must get my hands on Mind'sEye LotR dramatization, respecting Mel's opinion very highly.
I do so enjoy listening to radio dramas during long (and otherwise potentially boring) car rides.

I also enjoy a good radio drama on long trips. I have fond memories of listening to a reading of The Silmarillion on a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park some years ago. I couldn't tell you who made it or read it, except that the gentleman had a very distinguished English accent that gave me goosebumps as he read the early parts of the book.
I've a 3-hour drive ahead of me come morning; that's short enough that I'll likely settle for various music CDs (like Robin Mark or Phillips, Craig and Dean).
Really? Does stargazer ever post in here?
I heard that! I will try to post in he more frequently starting next week, after the holiday.
*gladly responds to jo's poke and grabs some chocolate before lunch*
Reading the posts on the last page reminds me that it soon will be time to reread LOTR. It's been a little while.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Safe traveling this weekend, stargazer, and enjoy the time out in nature.
*wonders who the gentleman was* I would love to hear his rendition of especially that first chapter of The Sil, Ainulindalë (in Quenya, "Music of the Ainur", as a general translation), which is a favourite of mine out of JRR's writings. Btw, I always have to look up how to spell that: it's a tricky 'un. I've heard it pronounced by a Tolkien friend who is amazing at elocution, and it's a beautiful word, said aloud: "eye-noo-lin-dal-eh" (That last syllable is as in "pet".)
Mmm, I do so like Phillips, Craig and Dean. Although years ago I frequently got them mixed up with 4HIM, who are sadly now disbanded.
We got our wish, GtG: stargazer will return.
Hey, PrinceCor, looks like you have a relative who just joined here.

Stargazer, I wonder if you listened to the same recording of the Silmarillion my dad did... I listened to a chapter or two, and it was quite good. Couldn't tell you who read it, though.
I also like listening to Robin Mark on car rides, but the ultimate CD to include while on a car trip is Michael W. Smith's Project. We've been listening to that album on trips for 20 years, so I'm rather fond of it.

Good Mortereve all! I hope each of you have been having a good day? I have been so far, our internet was out practically all day, so I was able to get quite a bit of reading done, as well as do some other stuff, which was most fun.
Nice bookstore haul, Fanny!
I hope you had such fun with you uncle. It seems to me he brings fun with him where he goes ... also, it looks like you're having the same heat as down here, 'though see my comment in response to stargazer below
Thank you! Yes, tis always lovely to have our uncle come up and visit, although this time around I didn't play any pranks on him. I'm being good, lulling him into a false sense of security, then I'll pull a big 'un on him. When, of course, I think of a suitably good big prank to play.
Fortunate you that you don't get the heat, or haven't gotten it quite yet.
Ok! We're partway through Disc 3 of Season 2.
Okay! The race is on.
I doubt it, but we'll see.
Hehe.
Guess what! I'm done with school for the year! Hooray!
Hooray!
@ Fanny. Only one other: my cousin. It worked out that this year it was just em and my cousin graduating, so the ceremony was rather... short.
The Mission by Ennio Morricone
Predator 2 by Alan Silvestri
Jurassic Park by John Williams
and Glory by James Horner.BTW, it won't hurt my feeling if you haven't heard of any of those.
Hmm, no doubt it was short. Did you mind it only being the two of you? Were there lots of people there in the audience? I'm thinking I should count myself rather fortunate, no graduation ceremony for me.
That means, above all = no speeches.
I have heard of Jurassic Park, although I've not seen it. Have you purchased the soundtracks yet? If so, I hope you enjoy them!
*reads on* Aha, I see you've ordered them.
I do hope you enjoy them!
Yeah, I'd say it was somewhat similar.
They had the Virginia Reel--a pretty popular one that you might be familiar with. *shrug*
-How fun! Hope you enjoy the time with your uncle.
Ah, okay! I've heard of the Virginia Reel and seen it, perhaps, so I'm kind of familiar with it, I guess.
Thank you! We had fun, although the time did go by rather fast.
;)) Same here... My brother "technically" "graduated" (finished his books) in December.
-Nothing much new here I suppose--my brother's graduation party is on June 5 at our house, I've been sewing a bit lately... (Got fabric enough for two different new skirts yesterday when we went to Hancock Fabrics.) And... yeah.
Don't you just love homeschooling?
I hope your brother's party goes well, do you have a lot of guests coming over? And do have fun sewing your skirts, what colour of fabric did you get?
Fanny! American history and literature are very appealing subjects, though I can't say that I like the curriculum I'm working through. It's a very easy but very boring curriculum. But my parents are trying to make my other schooling easy (and not so much of it) so that I have more time this fall to work on chiefly music.
![]()
Ah, that's too bad about the particular curriculum being too easy and therefore boring... that's great your parents want to help out in that area, though. Do you have any idea of what material you'll be covering in the literature department? And what exactly do you do? Do you read certain books and then do any assignments or something of that sort?
This month of June is looking very not-busy at the moment. I'm hoping to take this opportunity to read and write a lot and especially learn more about my Savior, Jesus Christ and get to know Him better. July, on the other hand, is looking absolutely packed with activities! I'll be helping out with mission work with our church the first two weeks and then the next week I'm going to a Christian camp and then the following week, I'm going on vacation with my family.
I hope you have a most fruitful June! Do you have any books in particular that you're hoping to read? Mission work with your church sounds fun- if I may, do you know what you'll be doing? And have fun at camp and on vacation!
I'm really excited, but I'm not sure if I'm prepared for such a crammed schedule. In the end, I know that it's all going to turn out well. I just need to get over my worrying habit.
I will be praying for you!
I hadn't ridden my bike in a while either, but I've gotten more used to it now that I've done it a few times.

The weather has actually been really nice down here lately! It was kind of rainy last week, but it's pretty nice this week. I hope that the weather is nice for the second week in June because that is when our church is having VBS and it would not be very good if it rained...It's a tiny church, so we have the kids eat and play the games outside.
*hopes for nice weather* Which VBS are you doing? (as in, theme/program/curriculum/etc)
I am good thanks!
Oh, the retreat was alot of fun. We were looking after a few kiddos, so we went outside to play during the day. It was very lovely! Alot of picturesque scenery. How've you been?
Hurray! To yourself being good and to the retreat being good.
Did you enjoy taking care of kids?
I've been wonderful, thank you!
I went in for a follow-up interview with Chick-fil-a yesterday morning and walked out with a job!!!!!
![]()
The process has taken so long because they were considering whether to hire someone who will likely not be there long-term. And even though I couldn't definitively tell them if I'd be there next fall, they've decided to give me a chance anyway.
I'm so very grateful and insanely excited!
What ho! How wonderful! When do you start? What will you be doing?
Do tell us all!
Thank you so much for your prayers!
*points to top of post for results on the job*
And it most certainly seems like fun! I'm looking forward to it! May I ask what restaurant you work in?
And ooh, we get badges? That's a definite plus...
Praise the Lord! That is, I will say again, truly wonderful that you got the job!
I work in a family run restaurant, so, erm, I guess it's kind of independent? It's not like a Tim Hortons, or a Wendy's, or a Chick-fil-a.
Yes ma'am, we each get unique and customisable badges.
Ah, good! I'm glad to hear it!
Which version have you also seen? And I would agree it's the best, because strangely enough, it actually follows the story.
That alone is enough to cover a lot of flaws, especially compared to the 2007 adaption. (I'm not even going to mention the 1999 version.
)
What did you think of the way the various characters were played?
The other one I saw was the 2007 one. Which is alright, but not the best. I'd dearly, and honestly, love to make a four part mini-series of Mansfield Park, do it rightly. Just think- if I did it with a team of devoted Christian filmmakers, we could really get Austen's themes, especially the Christian ones, right! That would be really cool. Alas, I'm not planning on being a filmmaker.
As to the characters- in the mini-series, I presume?- I recall liking the main ones, although I must admit it's been a while so I can't really give a detailed review of my thoughts on them. I didn't quite like the Crawfords though. More so the actors they chose than how their characters were written. What about you?

Sorry I somewhat disappeared (again. . .), but my computer hates me. It decided to house dust bunnies who like to take up residence in the fan. This is BAD! But, the nice people from Dell fixed it, and now my new fan is keeping my computer nice and cool and thus letting me spend more time on NWeb.
Anyhoo, I've read over most of the pages I missed, but I don't have the time to catch up on nearly ten pages. So *hugs* to all! I'll (hopefully) be around for the rest of the evening and then pop back in here again over the next week.

Ok, I really have to get my sleeping pattern back under control! Oh! That's not what I came in here to say...
Those of you who have seen my facebook status, already know this. But... guesswhat, GUESS WHAT?! I kinda sorta have a job now! Well, part time that is.
Bother, I'm going about this all wrong! Let me try again...
On thursday (I think), my mommy told me that the mom of one of her clients (mom's a physical therapist for little babies and children, remember ) had asked if I could babysit for her. (she asked specifically FOR ME!!!
Well, "your daughter that doesn't work"... same difference!) I thought about it for a bit, was kinda unsure of the whole thing but it seemed like an interesting prospect.
So, yesterday, after Mom came home from work... she took me over there to meet the mom and her two little boys. (who are one and two years old. the two year old has down syndrome) Anyway, we all got to know each other. And apparently, I'm special... afterwards their mom found me on facebook and told me that "they normally don't take to people that fast. I think you and the boys will be good friends"!
Anyway, I start on wednesday. And I think what mom said, is that I'll be going several times a week, for several hours each time. (basically, I'll be there when the mom is working)
And it was sooo cute! When I was getting ready to walk out the door, the one year old kept reaching for me. Once he figured out he couldn't come with me, he started crying. Made me wanna cry, yet feel special all at the same time!
But, yeah. That's my news!!
*tiptoes in to the quiet square*
WAKE UP!!! Why is no one on?!?! *sigh* this happens every Saturday. When I have the most time everyone is doing something else
I strive to entertain. Coherency must needs fall by the wayside.
that made me laugh

Isn't that something, though?
I mean, it's good for me, in that I get out of the house. And get job experience. (something I haven't had much of, even at my age ) Add to that the fact that I just love babies and children, so it's really fun!
But what makes it even better is that it helps that mommy out! I know that if I couldn't do it, it'd be a lot harder for her to keep her job. (cause she'd have to keep rushing home to watch them, if she couldn't find someone to do so. must be hard having both her and her husband working) So, yeah... good thing all around, I'd say! Prayers for all of us would be great! I want to do right by them, and all that.
Oh, and I forgot to mention two other things that make me happy:
1) VBS is coming up!!! (June 7-11th, I believe) I forget what it's called, but it's one by Group Publishing... and it's theme reminds me of VDT (what a year for that, eh?!)!
2) The sooner VBS gets here, the quicker it'll be time for CAMP!!! *misses camp* (that'll be at the end of june, into early july. the only bad thing about camp this year, is I'll be gone during daddy's birthday )
Liberty- Welcome back to the Square! And you'll be getting out EARLIER than your public school friends? Wowee, y'all must get out late where you live!!! Our schools NEVER went clear into June. Everyone in my area is done already. (the high school graduation was about a week or two ago? and the seniors were done a week before that. the younger kids got done several days, to a week after the seniors)
Best of luck on your end of the year schoolwork!

Howdy everyone! Sorry about the delay in my posts, while traveling I did not always find wireless so I have not had time to catchup. But now that I am in Florida again (yes I just arrived) I was able to get it here, So here I am!
So I have been reading Pride and Prejudice, and I'm enjoying it.
Well catchup time!
idk...some books take me a while to read, even if I find them interesting. But I'm reading alot of other stuff right now too
. So I'm only a few chapters into TTT. It took me a loooong time to finish TFotR. I hope it doesn't take me as long to finish TTT
.
Reading more than one book at a time? I guess I can understand that a little but still it is kind of weird
Umm... *goes to check* Yeah, it looks like there are two or three episodes.
Oh cool.

What have you been up to lately? I trust you're well?

I'm doing really good, thanks!I'll be pretty busy in the next couple of weeks, but I'm looking forward to it.

*enters the Square* Mortereve all! Just got back home this afternoon. We had a GREAT vacation! It was lots of fun. Also, I bought two new stuffed animal dragons to add to my collection, so I was really excited.
Looks like I have a lot of ketchuping to do. Guess I'd better get started!
Benjamin, how are you liking Erak's Ransom so far?
NN95, yes, my orthodontist says that I have to wear the retainer for the rest of my life. He said that my mouth "has a memory" and could go back to the way it used to be, once I get my braces off. I thought that sounded a little odd, but I don't know anything much about teeth anyway.
Hi lysander! *waves back* I'm doing great, thanks! I'm so excited that school is finally out! How are you?
Thanks, johobbit! We had a fantastic vacation, it was really nice to get away and have some fun.
Nope...didn't get to see any southern gospel groups.
That would be fun sometime though.
FF, I like quiet summers too...a nice quiet break from school! Are you out of school yet?
PrinceCor, cool, I like The Empire Strikes Back a lot too! Do you have a favorite Star Wars character?
AslansCountry, thanks, I had an awesome vacation.
So are you out of school yet?
*skims*
*waves to Pebbles* Good to see you pop in!
Oh, thanks, Miss Rose! Yeah, I always get super nervous before recitals.
You play the piano, right? Or am I totally making that up...?
Ruby, my piano recital turned out great! I played "Return of the Lion" from the Prince Caspian soundtrack.
Oh, and that is awesome that you're done with school! I'm almost done except for a couple tests.
*skims some more*
Djaq, do you have a favorite Robin Hood character?
Oh, thank you! Our vacation went great, I had an awesome time!
I'm doing pretty well, CS! We just got back from our vacation, so I'm really tired and will probably go to bed early tonight...
Is there anything going on for you this month? Oh, and tell Bella to stop by the Square sometime again soon!
*hugs malkah back* Great to see you in the Square!! That's awesome that you're working at Chick-fil-A now! Lol, free milkshakes would be nice.
Yes, I am a fan of Shannon Hale's books! I love her Books of Bayern series.
Oh, the piano recital went great, thanks for asking! I played "Return of the Lion" from Prince Caspian.
Wow, really? I didn't know that right-handed people live longer than left-handed! I guess I should consider myself lucky that I'm right-handed. What are you?
*faints* I think this is my longest post in here ever. Well, I've been hogging the computer for over an hour now and, after being deprived of the Internet for a week, my siblings are bugging me to get off...so mortereve!
