Good Mortereve again! I hope y'all have had a pleasent day, I most certainly have. I've gotten quite a bit of reading done, something for which I am quite happy. Tomorrow should be a busy day, work again, I hope it goes well, and especially that I wake up in good time. I guess I have a very strong aversion to being late for things....
*waves back at Lysander* It's good to see you around again! How are things for you? I'm glad to hear that whatever it was that was causing you to feel unwell last night has past!
Haha, well, we're watching through all the seasons we have again, and since we put on an episode anytime we're around the tv (even if we're up and about and not actually sitting down to watch) we may get through the four seasons we have while you're watching season 5!
Aha, is that a challenge? If so, you're on.
Ah, ok. I've not seen any of Series 2, but, like I've said, I'm watching it on YouTube, so I have to wait for it to be uploaded.
I hope it gets uploaded soon so you can see it! From what I saw of Series 2 it was fairly enjoyable.
Glad to hear that things are going well for you! Yes...this "end of school" time really does make everyone busier- sometimes I think that the summer will be a nice respite from the busy-ness and then it turns out summer is just as busy.
The class went really well! We all passed, so that was good.
![]()
Yes, it is a good thing to know.
Ah, yes, it is a good thing to not have everything happening on the same day! Mmhmm, summer is nice! It gets a tad hot down here, but it's still fun! flam and I have been riding our bikes quite a bit, which has been really nice.
Congratulations! I'm glad the class went well!
Heh, yes, sometimes it gets very very warm up here as well, although probably not as warm as down there. (The highest we get is generally in the 32-35 celsius range) Riding bikes is fun, although I must admit I haven't ridden mine in quite some time...
Lol! Excellent advice!

Hehe!
:)) Mmm, I love Cheerios! I think I just might nab a bowl after this post.
*is excited with Fanny for her trip to the States* Special memories will be made.
I have one upcoming, too, about one month after yours: a few mods are meeting up in Ohio. It was so special, fun, and memorable last year, and I anticipate the same for this Moot.
Thank you! I hope your trip is wonderful- especially since you get to re-meet NarniaWebbers.
Which is something that is always special!
Wow, Fanny, thanks for that history lesson!
Your brother and you should write a book together, methinks.
Hehe, no problem! Aw, thanks!
I know my brother and I were talking of a book at one point on something else kind of related to that topic, but we have since gotten busy, so I guess the idea has been put on the very back burner of our minds, well protected within the thick walls of a very slow cooker...
Do have fun on your vacation, Narnia Girl! Quiet summers are nice too- we had a fairly quiet summer last year June onward, which was really nice as a lot of stuff happened in May, so we needed the catch up time to readjust to things in life...it's amazing how time flies, and hard to believe it's been over a year now...
*waves back at Glenstorm* How are you?
And now it's my time to be skedaddling, and so, without further ado, cheers!
Dear days of old, with the faces in the firelight,
Kind folks of old, you come again no more.

This link should work to the old forum.
Okay, I give, lys: I probably won't retain much of what I learned from your ramblings, but I do find them interesting and enjoy them. So there. And now I know which opera you are enjoying on Sunday.
Oh my, I don't think I've ever even experimented with the "Topic Review". I see it now and will click on it when I'm brave enough.
To skedaddling Fanny: don't put that book idea too far removed on the back burner.
And now, sozy clippers, all, and a tuddly ceddy. (Good ol' spoonerisms!)
May the stars shine down upon thy peaceful dreams.

By the way, I'm still planning to drop by the Books! thread at some point. I just have so much to catch up on!
what do you want?!?! I've practically "jumped for joy" on every thread you've posted in already! Ok yeah come to the Books! thread soon. People were wondering where you were when McKillip was mentioned
.
Does anyone besides myself have a love-hate relationship with the topic review box?
I do
Whoa, GtG, that mint chocolate-chunk ice cream sounds rather delicious.
it was! And it was natural too . I love mint ice cream, it's my favorite flavor

Things for me are quite well, Fanny. I have to work again tomorrow - not too excited about that - but right now I'm enjoying my evening. By the way, I love the word "skedaddling."
I probably won't retain much of what I learned from your ramblings, but I do find them interesting and enjoy them. So there.

All right, I give you a pass for now. But there will be a test later.
On reflection, I think it's much easier to have the "post a reply" page open in one tab and the posts you're responding to/quoting in another. Easier than using the topic review box, that is. (Wow, that was clear as mud.)
I may do my ketchup post in the Books! thread before bed tonight, Glenstorm. I did want to post in there before I caught up on my LibraryThing reviews anyway, so I can link to them in a separate post. (Gotta break up the Epicness, you know.) Still, I'm going to finish a Very Snarky Review first. In fact, this particular review may be too snarky. I sort of feel bad posting it where the author may be able to see it. But then, it is a Very Bad Book.

(Little sister was very interested by the program cover when we told her the little girl was Cosette. Since it wasn't the musical, I'm not sure how much attention she paid to the actual story.) The young men playing Jean val Jean, Javert, and the Bishop did a fantabulous job, as did the girl playing Eponine. Everyone else was just really good.
I'm not sure Cosette got enough lines to make her character convincing, though, and I'm a tiny bit disappointed that Marius' conversation with the Thenardiars at the end was truncated. But the scene with the bishop was all I could have wished. So I am quite happy. (And wondering what the bishop would have said in the courtroom if he had still been alive. Hmmm...)
*waves cheerily back at GtG*
best taken as a comedy probably and not a serious film.
Most of my movie intake is on the comedic side of things, so that's somewhat reassuring. Also, I already know that there are pretty costumes, so I can hope I won't end up going, "Eh, I think I'd rather have the two hours of my life back, please." (Which is what happened with Dark Crystal.) Thank you for the review! And many congratulations on being done with school! Oh happy day!
Ah, I confess that I had not thought of that.

It sounds like an...interesting journey.
I blame repeated readings of Marvin K. Mooney

I grew up on Gilbert & Sullivan, thank you to my parents. We had LPs of some favourites, 'though, come to think of it, I'm not sure where those went to in recent years. *sniff*
*gets bouncy just hearing of Mel's Les Mis local-theatre viewing* Sounds wonderful! If I had to choose a favourite character, I'd probably say the Bishop. Even though his part is smaller than some, he really stood out in my mind for his gracious mercy and kindness ... something I can always learn more of.
Oh! Marvin K. Mooney Will you Please Go Now Now, that brings back memories! Of course, I'm a big Dr. Seuss fan from away back. I mean, who can resist even the cover?!
But, on the other hand, I'm really liking the soft blue and purple thing I have going now, and hobbits reading=awesome.
Most definitely. In fact, this sig/avvy set could very well be my second favourite of yours. ♥ (Now that I know where the avvy quote comes from. ) And your drawing of the reading hobbits is just too priceless!
And now, off to an outdoor extended family picnic on this cool, shower-y day. Better than hot, is all I can say!

Good mortereve all! I hope you are well- I had a lovely day at work, and got to go book shopping with Dad afterward. The place I work is about two doors down from a used book store, which usually has a large selection of books. They didn't have anything I wanted to read by way of literature, but I did get two hard cover biographies for a very good price. One is on Clementine Churchill by her daughter Mary, and the other is on Queen Victoria. Dad also got two books- one particularly on or by Hudson Taylor. So now I have some new books to read. Work went well as well, thankfully!
Because of the long weekend I think it was busier than usual, but we managed.
To skedaddling Fanny: don't put that book idea too far removed on the back burner.

Aww, I'm sorry about the concert- who was putting it on? I'm really happy that you've been finding success on the new exercising schedule- I've started walking (read= something akin to the marching they do in the army, except without the big equipment packs) with my Mom, and I've really enjoyed that, except for on the really hot days. I'm so happy that your relationship with the Lord is growing, that is so fantastic!!
From what I've read of the Ludys' work they have been challenging and thought provoking, and it's really made me think about things- especially since I finished The Lost Art of True Beauty. Wow! That was a good book! I think it really helped, not just in the giving me new things to think on way, but also in the encouraging way, that there is people out there who do believe that people can live to God's standards and not only survive but also succeed.
I'll continue praying for you on your walk with the Lord!
(In addition to that, I hope to get a reply typed up to your PM soon...)
I've been well, thank you! The Lord has been showing me so many things- one encouraging thing in particular that He has shown me is that if I want to be prepared for any questions that my co-workers ask about my faith, or why I believe what I believe, one of the best ways I can do that is to really get into God's word and study it. It was encouraging to hear that because it's something I can do, right now. I don't have to go to college to get prepared and to be effective (although that certainly does help in many different ways), it's not the only way to grow. That was exciting.
So yes! I've been doing really really well!
*waves to everyone else* Hope y'all are well!

Mortereve all! Well, last night was my graduation ceremony! It's official now, I've graduated.
After the ceremony, we went by my grandmothers before coming home and watching.... guess what?.... The Two Towers Extended Edition!!
We were going to watch RotK as well, but wimped out when TTT ended at 2:00AM....
*Cor and Vern shag a chocolate bar before taking their seats at the fountain*
Well, tis that time again. Need to make another catch-up post. Hold the lettuce and tomato, extra ketchup and a glass of root beer to drink. And yes, I would like fries with that.
--------------------------------------------
@ Ali. Thanks for the congrats!! Eh, one more year isn't so bad.... I guess.
@ Fanny. I'm doing very, very well thanks. As I mentioned earlier, I had my graduation ceremony last night, so I've been on cloud 9 ever since. Today has been good, if extremely humid.
Also, I got an Amazon.com gift card from a friend of ours for graduation, so there are several soundtracks I've been eyeing lately...
Thank you, Fanny!

We quote the '95 Pride and Prejudice quite a bit.

@ Jo.
Yep, I do.
Guess I'm in a minority.
I think his score captured that extremely intense and 'creepy' feel of the film so very well.
You're not in too small of a minority. Some of my favorite scores are The Fly II, Alien, Aliens, The Lost World and Predator 2. All rather creepy scores, good but creepy.
And, if I remember, these were even roasted. Mmmm.
Exactly why I passed on those....
*Oh! Sorry miss Jo.... "Marf" is "This". I know, doesn't sound a bit like the word is suppose to be.

Woohoo!!! Thanks for the cupcakes, Jo!!!
*Ditto what the Prince said. *
@ Lucy. Empire Strikes Back is my personal favorite with Star Wars coming in at a close second.
Thanks!!

@ Mel. In that case you would probably like Labyrinth at least halfway decently. BTW, beware of a couple of extremely goofy David Bowie musical numbers....
Quite welcome! *bows* I'm always more than happy to share my opinion on a movie or score (if you haven't noticed yet ).
Thanks! It felt so nice to finish school on Tuesday and be done with it. *sigh*

FF: Hello!! Well, we got back from a week long trip (almost) to WI/IL... had a lot of fun there!
We had a "Presbytery" meeting with our church/denomination.
Anyway, it was a lot of fun.
Like I said. We had "English Country Dancing" on one of the nights, and various other activities throughout the three days there.
What have you been up to?
Are you graduating this year, or have you already? I'm so bad at remembering.
(Oh, and there's more below about the FEStudent that I wrote to Djaq that you can read as well if you wish.
I like to write different things to people instead of the same thing over and over, yet I don't mind other people reading it or whatever either.)
Dj: Greetings! Yes, the FE Student going back that quickly was rather unexpected. As I didn't get to know him I wasn't too disappointed... I guess I don't like big changes like that very much, so I suppose I'm happy that it's just "our family" again...
I guess I was never gun-ho (is that how you spell/say it?
) for the idea anyways. I suppose I figured once he came I would get used to it and like it--but he never stayed, so I never had to. I liked him, just not really the fact that he was disrupting my nice comfort zone.
Yeah...
Oh, and this Tuesday I'm getting 2 cavities filled... Hooray.
Sorry to hear you were sick, Lys, but glad you're feeling better! Many people I know got a nasty stomach flu about a week ago--some of them right around the time their siblings were getting married. Not good.
My Mom was sick as well on Monday, which postponed/canceled some vacation plans... Not sure if it's the same thing, but.. yeah. Glad you're feeling better again, and nice to see you around!
*skims* I believe that's all, hope I haven't missed anything. Talk to you all later! It's nice to be back.

Wow ... I thought there would be more to catch up on than this. This has its good and its bad sides, of course.
If you enjoy Random Capitalization (see ... I did it again!), you will very much like my brutal/snarky Drinkwater review - once I finish it, of course. By the way, thanks for clarifying that the youth theater production of Les Mis you saw was not the musical; otherwise, I would definitely have assumed that it was. Sounds like a fabulous night at the theater, all in all.
I grew up on Gilbert & Sullivan, thank you to my parents. We had LPs of some favourites, 'though, come to think of it, I'm not sure where those went to in recent years. *sniff*
By "favourites," do you mean highlights, or complete recordings of the operettas? If the latter, do you at all remember which operettas, whether they included dialog or not, and whether they were in mono or stereo? (And any of the casts?) I ask partially to satisfy my own curiosity, and partially because I might be able to direct you to the exact performances if you were interested. I've been spending way too much time on the Gilbert & Sullivan Discography website of late.
(Question: why does it feel like I use the blushing emoticon more than any either?)
By the way, I just found out the other day that Fort Worth Opera is doing The Mikado next season. Super excited! They did a knock-out job with Pirates a few years back.
if you don't mind me asking, is it a new job or the same one you had last summer?
Same one as last summer, and the summer before that. I'm beginning to be rather a fixture there.
yay replied to your post already, but I didn't see that book title/review
.
I posted in the Books! thread in lieu of finishing my review. In about a week I'll post again with a list of the books I've been reading recently and links to my LT reviews, once I've written them.... (*will not use blushing emoticon. will. not.*)
Tis been far too long since you graced us with your personage.
*is delighted to think of himself as a personage, and, moreover, one that can grace other people*
To answer your question, I've been doing pretty well, all things considered. Enjoying this month-long break between school ending and work starting up for good. (Just weekends now, than goodness.) Looking forward to my mini-vacation with the family this week. And glad to be back on NarniaWeb - when it came time for my dad gave me my password back, I was a little afraid he would have forgotten it!
If I was sick, Queen Susan, it was only for 2-3 hrs. I'm inclined to think it might have been an allergic reaction to something I ate, or perhaps it was related to seasonal allergies somehow. It certainly wasn't the stomach bug, which some other folks I know have. But yeah, I'm glad I didn't stay sick too.
I've had a lovely day - church, lunch at a local Greek restaurant, the afternoon at the opera, and then dinner and fun at a festival put on by some friends' church. The opera wasn't awe-inspiring in terms of either material or performance, but the tenor and bass were both excellent, which made it worthwhile. Here they are in what may be my favorite production photo (although the one with the tenor and soprano holding a book together makes my bookish romantic heart go boom, boom, boom):
I think I'm going to write a review of the performance as a Facebook note. If anyone's interested, I can post it here too.

Of course not.
Aslans Country, really cool about your bilingualism! You play in a band for your school, I'm gathering? What instrument?
A band.. of sorts. We're an orchestra that is sort of failing to be an orchestra due to the fact that we have around 15 people. I play the french horn, and that's the only brass instrument, so.. yeah.
Guess I'll start ketchuping (is that even a word? ) now.
Of course it is.
