I assume you've read [The Count of Monte Cristo]?
You assume correctly. I should read it again. Most of what I remember about it is the feeling of 'can't put the book down! Need to know what happens next!'
Dare I ask, what are the Chrestomanci books?
![]()
*is charmed by the smiley* They're four books by Diana Wynne Jones. I didn't really like the last one, Witch Week, but I did like the third one (the one I was running away to read) which is called Magicians of Caprona. Auntie coracle introduced me to the author's work, and so far I've been enjoying myself.
Haha, it doesn't seem like something to which there could be a good sequel, but then again, sequels never are as good as the original.
But lest someone (err, like myself ) be tempted to try and get around the 'sequels are never as good as the original' by writing the sequel first... just remember, prequels aren't as good as the original either because you've built up expectations of how things were then, and... yeah. Doesn't seem to work too well either. (Fortunately, I remembered this in time to make this comment. Heh.
)
Bella, I seem to have reached a climax. (Word count: 60,000) Whether or not the story actually has a plot? Eh... I suppose it does. I keep a collection of paragraphs that sound like they're part of a story and look at them from time to time, just to see if I can turn them into something. They're lots of fun to write, I agree.
Silent Night with flute and piano? That sounds gorgeous, and good job on covering for Ella. I wish I could improvise...
I wonder if there is 'spring music'. I know I listen to Handel's Messiah between Christmas and Easter, and I think Handel did a few others with a similar theme, but there aren't really songs that are associated with spring like Chirstmas carols are associated Christmas...
I look forward to seeing pictures, then, and thank you! I like your new icon too, though I liked the old one more.

Mortereve all!
*waves to everyone who is here*
It's been an age since I've visited the Town Square. In fact, the last time I visited was on the old forum! So, hello to everyone I've met before and hello everyone I've not met before! You can call me Lydia.
I hope everyone is doing well on this fine mortereve.
Coldplay and Enya are two of my favorites as well, Ben! I only know Such Great Heights by The Postal Service, but I perhaps I should look up more of their stuff.
Oooh, Mel, I love the Chrestomanci books! I agree with you about Witch Week. It was just okay compared with the other ones. But, I am very happy to say, there are two more books after Witch Week! Conrad's Fate and The Pinhoe Egg. I've been reading all the Diana Wynne Jones I can get my hands on, and I'm relieved that there is quite a bit more for me to read. I recently re-read Howl's Moving Castle.
I always sit there and giggle to myself as I read it.
Does anyone here play guitar? I recently bought one online, and I am anxiously awaiting its arrival. I play piano, but that's not very portable , so I want to learn to play the guitar and have an instrument that I can take places.
Coldplay and Enya are two of my favorites as well, Ben!
I only know Such Great Heights by The Postal Service, but I perhaps I should look up more of their stuff.
I love Enya! her music is so good! I actually don't listen to Postal Service much, I like other bands a lot more But they are still good! By the Way I don't think we have met yet..... And if we have please excuse my forgetfulness! Please allow me to introduce myself *Bows* I am Benjamin Wanderer of the Wasteland (Look at my location

*waves back to Benjamin* What's up?
*returns Bella's wave* Thank you! It's great to see you around again - how are you doing?
FF, yes, I love little children! They're so sweet and adorable.
Oh, I'm doing pretty well. I'm getting over a cough that my little brother passed to me, but other than that I'm doing good.
*waves to Lydia* Hi! Nice to meet you!
All done now, I guess. I wish it would stop raining outside. I hate rainy weather...

How can you not like chocolate?! It's so sweet and sugary and chocolaty!
Oh, that's the only kind of snow that's good! Haha.
How can you like it? It's so gross and disgusting.
*humphs indignantly at NN95*
Hmm, so you have gotten the first post of the day these past couple days. I've been busy and didn't have time to get on!
![]()
Yes, two days in a row! Ah, I see.
Aiden- (who I always either end the post with, or begin with coincidentally.),
When we do get to watch NT1, I sure will give my review on it!And, yes, I most indeed am going treasure hunting. The mime venture didn't work, so I said to meself..hey, why not go treasure hunting?
Ah well, the first one is much, much better.Ditto. Didn't get the Christmas tree up? My! It's perfectly understandable, though.
I'm not sure. I guess it's the feeling of just Christmas and all the carols and all that being gone until next year... but New Years comes around, then Ella's birthday, and after that Winter Retreat, so I get pretty cured most of the time. ^.^
Haha, same. This is our third week from break, and third weeks are always final test week, so it's been...not too fun.Thank goodness we have an extra week next week where we only do Language!
(Speaking of language, I was really shocked the other day at church when two ladies got out of the elevator and started speaking in Spanish, and I understood nearly everything.
(nothing especially surprising, it was just "Tu?! Oh, que sorpresa! Como esta? Soy bien tambien" etc. (*did not go search for accents, even though they might have been necessary, because she is feeling lazy*) I'd practice it now, but can't think of what to say. Do give me a phrase or something in that sort and test if I can go along with the conversation, please.
) Teachers recorded in a DVD and not knowing what your doing?
Well, you could be singing and they wouldn't know, wouldn't that be first-rate?
jk.
Indeed! Why are you lucky, you ask? Muchly so that you get to be in a Little Women play! It's a really big something for me, for I've always wanted to be in a Little Women play...possibly as Jo or Beth, but mostly the latter 'cause she's my favourite. =] Oh, I see, that makes sense! How cool you got John Brooke!
(Although what happens to him in the future is saddening.
)
Yeah, well, Christmas is always a busy time of year, and it's hard to find time to put stuff up.
Oh, I see. I can understand that. In fact, there are different things that happen throughout the year that I really enjoy, and its quite sad when they finish. But, the consolation is that something else is coming around the corner.
Ooh, I hope all those tests go well. Oh, that's neat you get a week off from all but language!
You have an elevator at church?? Wow. Anyway, that's so cool that you understood what they were saying. (And, by the way, I assure you they didn't say "Soy bien.") No problem (about the accents). Ok, so, ¿Puedes hablar mucho español ahora?
What? Why would I possibly sing at my teachers recorder in a DVD?
Oh, I see. Perhaps you shall someday!
Yes, it's quite a fun part! Oh? What happens to him in the future?
It's funny how our play is structured. I was watching the most recent Little Women movie that was made, and our play only goes half way. It ends right before Laurie goes to college. I don't know how that compares to the book, but, I rather like where it ends—it's a very happy ending, especially since Mr. March has just come home.
How do we get such long conversations going?Hurray!

I'm glad to hear the endings were much better in Season 4, that's great.
Maybe they were just experimenting with a new style in Season 3 and figured out they didn't like it as much.
Yes, they are indeed. I think they just had more content in the Season 3 episodes (I noticed all new writers in Season 4) and they couldn't end the episode well without cutting some scenes. One thing I don't like about Season 4 is that annoying transition with the puzzle pieces. They started doing it at the end of Season 3 and did all the way through Season 4 (and I'm assuming 5, too).
You beat me to the first post this time, Narnia Girl!

Good Mortereve everyone! It's been a rather slow Monday for me today, so I feel I have some time to do a short catch up post. It's quite rainy here...but I rather like it. I hope everyone has been having a good day and has had a good weekend! Mine were alright- nothing too special happened but tis no bad thing.
FF, yes, I love little children! They're so sweet and adorable.
Oh, I'm doing pretty well. I'm getting over a cough that my little brother passed to me, but other than that I'm doing good.
Hear hear! *nods in agreement with Narnia Girl's statement on little children*
I'm glad to hear you've been feeling better- I hope the cough completely goes away soon! Did you have a cold, or just a cough?
Yes, they are indeed. I think they just had more content in the Season 3 episodes (I noticed all new writers in Season 4) and they couldn't end the episode well without cutting some scenes. One thing I don't like about Season 4 is that annoying transition with the puzzle pieces. They started doing it at the end of Season 3 and did all the way through Season 4 (and I'm assuming 5, too).
Hmmm, that's a logical explanation for it. That makes sense. Interesting about the new writers in Season 4- I didn't pay attention to the names but I did notice there was generally four or five names whereas before there wasn't as many. I never knew it took so many to write one episode...
I noticed the puzzle transitions- one could not help it, I think, and I agree, they do get a bit tiresome after a while. I felt it was odd how they just suddenly started at the end of Season 3, it was kind of jarring...I suppose. Or maybe just different.
Well, I suppose I should be off...lunch calls! *waves and departs*

Ok, then! Ruby and I will work that into our next post!
Winter, I am doing fairly well, though I'm quite busy with schoolwork this month. Hm, nothing super exciting has gone on lately, except for when my mom took me and my sister to a Michael English concert back on Saturday.
That was so exciting.
Oh, schoolwork! Bleh. I have so much to work on it isn't even funny! That's neat about the concert! Who is Michael English?
Yup, same here.
(Muahaha, I new you'd be lost!)
Sigh, and I thought you weren't lazy at all!
(You're such a meany. )
Then I'm probably third. See that mangled sleigh over there? It didn't look nearly that bad when you two crashed it.
Oops, yeah.![]()
Wow, um what did you do it? It doesn't look a thing like a sleigh now!
You make a very good point.
I used to go there semi-often, but just haven't had anyone to go with or haven't had the time recently.
Aw, that's too bad. Ah, yes, the curse of not having time.
Oh, no worries! I don't mind.
(I realize that I sounded kind of annoyed before and I didn't mean to. I'm sorry!) Ah, yes, I have heard about that.
Will you tell her that I said hello, please?
![]()
That's good! I think I'd be kinda annoyed if people started splashing my name around. I did, and she said hi back.
*laughs at the Ruby-Winter post* Great stuff you two!
![]()
Thank you!
@ Winter. Ah, how true those words are. Ruby did post shortly after you.
![]()
Hmm, it would seem that in my extended absense I forgot what we were talking about... Hmm, well how are you and Vern?
Hi, Winter! How goes it?
Oh, so you've experimented with skating backwards and such? I'm too...timid for that, believe it or not!
Hey! It goes good. Yeah, I did. It was pretty fun. It's really too bad that the rink we had was only a temporary one. I only got to skate four times.
But, still I shall forever have fond memories of skating.
Yeah, starting back school is like a cold slap in the face. But, I must say, I am rather glad to get back into my regular routine of things.
Really? I always thought starting school up again was like a brain freeze. That is true, there is something to be said for routines.
Winter and Ruby:
Nice post.
Oh dear, a winking face! How dubious! lol, that's me being a hyprocrite.
*waves to Wintystar* Hi, you!

You're very welcome, Ben!
My day has been good, but nothing more exciting than cleaning bird cages and going to the store for dog food and toothpaste has happened. *sigh* It's such a thrilling life I lead...
I'm waiting for my guitar to come, so there'll be plenty of excitement on that day. Any day now...
And how has your day been?
Lydia: Cleaning Bird cages? Nice! I take it that you an animal person? Its probably a lot more thrilling than mine!
Oh nice what kind of Guitar is it? I can play like four chords on the guitar but Piano is more my instrument than guitar......
My day? hmm...... Lets see here.......... I woke up.... Yeah i know its crazy! but I really did wake up!... Anyway that is about as an exciting thing that happened to me today
I do believe that I will be going now If I have an exciting day tomorrow then I'll tell you

@Ben Haha, yes, I do love animals. I've got 2 birds, a cat, and a dog.
Well, since I don't have school this semester, my life will mainly consist of work and hanging around (thrilling, no?). I think I shall spend lots of time reading, which is an exciting prospect!
It's a Fender DG-7. I'm really excited to learn!
Oh, cool! Do you take piano lessons? How long have you been playing? I play too, but not nearly as much as I used to.
You woke up?! Well, I am glad to hear it.
Well, I have to get up early, so I think I shall be off. May everyone have pleasant dreams and an exciting tomorrow!
Lydia: I like animals but I would not much like a pet
Yes Thrilling indeed I,m homeschooled and we are very lax about it
So I really am not doing much
But still I'm learning
Oh I love reading also! What are your favorite books?
Oh cool! i don't think I have heard of that kind, but that's probably because I'm not that into Guitars
I have never taken piano lessons but sometime I hope to I'm really not that good at it but I hope to get good over time
Well I have been playing around on it for several years but just this year- or I mean last year-I started playing more and then I just decided that that would be the instrument I would learn....... Are you good at playing the Piano?
Yeah I was glad when i heard that I was awake too
Well Goodnight! and nice talking with you!
