Burg: Day 5

Xandria craned her neck, her ears following the small noises, her glowing eyes searching for any signs of movement. Who--or what?--ever it was was quick, but what was it? Xandria started running, her legs crying out in pain. She tried to ignore the burn, tumbling off of one container and onto another. She grimaced at the echo as she landed, then crouched around and looked around furtively. She had to get out of here. Perhaps her best bet would be to go back in the water...she shook her head, pressing her hands against her temples, trying to think. She could be quieter than this. She didn't even have any shoes to make noise. She stood and began to run on her tiptoes. Wincing at every creak as she moved from container to container. At least she was higher up than whatever else was around...but that also meant at some point she would have to get down.

Burg: Day 5

Before Selena could say something to the girl, she darted off... and by the sound of it, was running atop several shipping containers. "Ugh! Why do you have to be a runner?!"

It was hard enough keeping track of which container the mysterious girl was on, then add the trouble of zig zagging through debris and other trash and the chase became almost more trouble than it was worth. Just remember: she's probably more scared of you than you are of her. I hope.

Burg: Day 5

Xandria stopped, and bent down, listening and looking for any sign of whoever else was out there. It was quiet. She waited a moment, then sprang lightly to the ground, backing up against the container and waiting. The cold metal sent a shiver down her spine. If she was a creature of the water, why was she still cold when she was wet? She could see a truck parked a few meters away. She knew it wouldn't be run running order, but that meant there had to be a way out and away from the docks. She started running again, still on her tip-toes. She had to find someplace safe.

Burg: Day 5

Running out from between shipping containers into a (relatively) open area, Selena noticed the runaway girl jumped down from the container she was on and make a mad dash towards an old truck. Why is she running on her toes?

"Hey! Hold on!!" The girl didn't seem to pay any notice to her voice or was too scared to stop. "Why do you have to make this so difficult..."

With a perturbed sigh, Selena raised her right hand in the direction of the truck. Sensing a fair amount of moisture on the ground and from a nearby lane, Selena turned her hand palm up and made a quick flick upward. A wall of water, roughly five feet high and six feet wide, suddenly appeared in front of the truck. I do hope she doesn't disintegrate in water or the like...

Burg: Day 5

Xandria slid to a stop, then self consciously pulled her shirt down before reaching out and touching the wall. It was water--dirty water, but water nonetheless. Her mind racing, she stared at it. If she passed through it, she would change forms. There was no getting around that. She couldn't jump over it, and it stretched from side to side, blocking her way. And that person was between her and the harbor. She slowly turned to face them--her, actually.
"What do you want?" she demanded, a strange feeling coming over her. Apparently she didn't have to have a tail to be a mermaid; she could feel the mark on her face extending from her hairline, and her sharper sea sight was there, too. She felt a little better, knowing that if this woman wanted to hurt her, she could fight back now. Her legs were tingling with pain still, and all she really wanted to do was to find a quiet place where she could be alone and rest.

Burg: Day 5

"Well, you can talk. That's a relief..." Selena mused as she slowly approached the strange girl. As she got closer, she realized this new arrival was yet another mutant. Maybe she's a nice one? Please?

"I just wanted to see who you were and if you needed help." A bit of a lie on the second part of that sentence, but oh well. "You seem to be... special... like I am." Selena kept the wall of water up for now, seeing as she still didn't now the intentions of this new girl.

Burg: Day 5

Xandria backed up as Selena advanced toward her, her hands running along the wall.

"Why do you care?" she demanded. "Who do you work for?"

Burg: Day 5

"I don't work for anyone. Besides, if I did, I probably wouldn't be trying to talk to you right now." Selena lowered the water wall just a bit to try and show that she meant no harm. "I have a friend who is like us... well, not exactly like us, his powers are different. Anyway, he'd be willing to give you a place to stay and help you out in any way... if you need it."

Negotiating and winning someones trust who was obviously freaked out about everything was a new challenge for Selena. Still, a challenge it was and one that would hopefully have a beneficial outcome for all concerned.

"If I get rid of this wall, will you promise not to go darting off?"

Burg: Day 5

Xandria considered her for a moment, then let her fingers curl into the water for a moment. No, if the water went away, she wouldn't have a way to fight back.

"No," she said. "I won't promise because I don't know who you are, and I've found that making promises to strangers is a very bad idea. How do I know you aren't lying? And that your 'friend' would care about someone he never met?"

Burg: Day 5

Why do you have to be so stubborn about this? I'M LIKE YOU!! Isn't that enough to clue you in that I don't want to hurt you?

Those were words swirling in Selena's head that unfortunately could not be expressed verbally without serious repercussions. Instead, her response would need to be more... gentle... and hopefully convincing.

"I... can't prove to you that I'm not lying. As for my friend, he had never met me before a couple of days ago when I appeared on his doorstep. He let me in and has even allowed others with special abilities to stay in his house." Selena paused slightly trying to think of some other way to convince this scared girl that she and the others were not a threat.

"Also... my friend has powers too. That's why he is sympathetic to us."

Burg: Day 5

"I...I..." Xandria thought for a moment, looking around her. The problem with walls of water is, while you could pass through them, they weren't ideal for leaning on and Xandria was starting to feel slightly sick.

"I need to sit down," she said, nearly collapsing down into sitting indian style. She kept her hand in the water, but let it rest against the ground. She had to think. If this woman was what she said, then she could help her. If she wasn't and Xandria passed out, it wouldn't matter anyway.

"Where is your friend?" she finally asked.

Burg: Day 5

It was only when the girl suddenly sat down on the ground that Selena realized how sick she looked. Her first instinct was to take a step forward and try to help, but at this point, doing something like that might freak the young woman out even more.

"He lives on the outskirts of town. On a hill overlooking the city. It takes about fifteen minutes to get there when riding a motor bike."

Burg: Day 5

Xandria sat and thought, wishing that her head would stop swimming. She didn't remember ever feeling this bad before. As much as she had wanted to leave the water, the idea of going back into it sounded strangely comforting at that particular moment. Still, a more logical part of her brain reminded her that she needed to eat or else she would die altogether.

"Ok," she said quietly. "I mean, please."

She sat for a minute, then realized that probably made little or no sense to this other woman.

"I'm sorry," she said, pushing her wet hair back from her face. "I seem to not be thinking clearly. Can we go to your friend's place? I think I need to eat something, at least."

Burg: Day 5

Ah! She's finally coming around.

"No problem and yes, we can. My motorcycle is over there, behind a tool shed." Selena nodded in the direction they needed to go. "Umm, can you walk that far or do I need to come pick you up?"

Burg: Day 5

"No!" Xandria leaped to her feet. "No, I'm fine. I'll...follow you."
