Hello everyone! After an absence of far too long, I think I shall be returning to the Ditto Story. :) Mostly, I want to get my characters through the arc I had in mind for them, so that I don't have that doom hanging over me the rest of my life. ;) Also, talking with a couple of the Dinklings at the recent Mod Moot stirred my interest anew. I shall likely be spending the next week or so reading and catching up, drafting Story posts and PMing those with whom I had intended to collaborate. I look forward to rejoining this zany madhouse!

Edit: And now I see that my last post was almost 2 years ago. ;)) I'll be doing a lot of catching up.

Hello there Dinklings! (Or whatever you call youselves :p) As you know I am but newly arived and decided to come and say hello to my fellow writers.
I look forward to a long time of happy writing with all of you and many good stories.
On another note. Mind if Dernhelm and my characters drop by the Emporium or some such place? We need somebody to get them acquainted to Ditto Town and it is so much more fun with other people.

Welcome back, shastastwin! We've missed you and your characters, and I look forward to seeing what you have in mind for them.

Nice job writing Abby in your latest segment, Aravanna - she can't help but have picked up some knowledge of science over the years, and can offer her opinions, but will usually defer to Erik in this area.

Dernhelm and Silvan_Haven, you certainly entered the story with a bang (sorry, couldn't resist ;)) ). Your characters are welcome to stop by the Emporium - and as it seemed to be heavily involved in the recent interdimensional incident, you're likely to meet a variety of Ditto Town's residents there.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

!! YAY!!! I can't wait to see your characters come back. :D (Oh, wow--sometimes I forget how long this story has been going!! @-) )

Silvan_Haven: Welcome to Ditto Town! :) (Yeah, we call ourselves Dinklings. :P :) ) Actually, my characters are in the Town Square right now--I think they can introduce themselves. :) (As soon as I get around to writing them again! ) I'll PM you two about it, just to make sure I get the details right. (My characters are planning to visit the Emporium later that night as well, if that helps at all. :) )

First return post is up. A little flashback and catch-up and a lead-in to the current uber-plot. ;)

Thanks, guys and gals. I appreciate the welcomes back. I've really missed writing with you all.

Also, wonderful writing on all of the segments so far. I can't make specific responses, except to say that even though I had been spoiled about the April Fools posts, they still shocked me. ;))

Thanks! I'm also planning on bringing in a villain soon although not through th same way. He will be staing for a while and my plots will be a good deal more action packed then most of the one going right now.
I will make sure to stay within the limits though.

While digging around the old forum and looking for my character bios (alas, to no avail!) I stumbled upon a conversation betwixt starkat, JillPole and myself about the Nine and my villain plans for this Story, spoilered below.

Spoiler
ST: I have one of my villains set to replace Number 6, the Nine character I write. I also have an idea for an order to the universe, with major players representing Good, Evil, Chaos, and Order. However, that was only conceived with my characters involved, so I can keep it that way or we can incorporate it into the overall scheme.

*Kat’s idea regarding taking away the Gibsons’ powers via a rogue time traveler*

ST: Kat, your plot actually works well with mine. The basic premise of my idea is that Good, Evil, Order, and Chaos all have agents in the world. Sounds like your time traveler in an agent of Chaos.

Kat: I'd already planned on him being an agent of one of the Nine. If that works in with yours, sounds fine to me.

JP: St, Are these good/evil and order/chaos pairs all part of the same organization? Because I could see one of the Nine being in charge of some kind of organization that would strive to balance both forces- sort of some weird yin/yang thing- and have agents for all of them.

ST: The term "agent" is more in the sense the Joker used in The Dark Knight, calling himself "an agent of chaos" than it is in the sense that these agents are employed by the forces of Good, Evil, et al. Also, the agents of the four forces are not in an organization of any kind collectively, though they may be individually. It's more that they just serve their force. I. E. agents of Good stir up Good, oppose Evil, ally with Order; agents of Chaos stir up Chaos, oppose Order, ally with Evil. Generally speaking, of course. Obviously, the Nine are more likely to be agents of Evil and/or Chaos and there might be one who's an agent of Order (because of their high organization levels). JP, I like your idea of one of the Nine having employees from all four forces in an attempt to balance them. We might even want to have one agent from each force know about the Grayson group's existence and such just to make things interesting.

JP: ST, I'll admit I have a hard time seeing how that works, given that every person has a bent in at least two directions. I don't think you can be just "good"; I think you'd have to be either "chaotic good" or "orderly good". Sort of like those personality tests- "abstract random" and "concrete sequential." Of course, I also kind of feel like that goes without saying...? so maybe I'm misinterpreting?

ST: That works (and actually explains some of my characters better) but it's not so much that each person is strictly equivalent to the force he serves. Rather, he will serve that force primarily. So an Evil person is capable of the other three forces, Good is capable of the other three, etc.

Anyone have thoughts on this line of thinking and its possible relation to the current story? Also, given the slightly different nature of

Spoiler
the Balances (which are the agents I mentioned in the conversation above)
in my newest post (it was written and posted before I looked back), does that affect our understanding and the usefulness of this potential plot?

Edit: Also keep in mind that

Spoiler
Kar was having to translate the Salesman's words himself, without the help of Christie or the Narrator, so everything he thinks he knows about the Balances can be just as true or flawed as we need it to be.

A belated welcome to the story, Silvan-Haven. And I like your aviator ;) although the combination of ours might cause a little chaos of its own :D They certainly occur within a few seconds of each other in the movie

Wow, a lot has happened since I posted last.

Ryadian, PM coming soon. :)

Varna, hopefully you find that segment! It's no fun to lose your writing. :( And I LOVED your post in Games and Blogs. You know the one. ;)

'gazer, I enjoyed your newest segment and I'm glad my writing of Abby was acceptable. I don't want to overstep my bounds... but I wasn't sure it was worth a PM. ;) Can't wait to hear what Eric has to say about all this.

Shastastwin, I've talked to you on Facebook already, but welcome back to the Ditto Story!! It's been a long time! :D And I know how it is to have characters left hanging.

And welcome to the Ditto Story for the very first time Silvan_Haven and Dernhelm_of_Rohan! It looks like you two will be working pretty closely together? I'll be interested to see where you guys take your story with characters that clearly aren't human from a technologically advanced universe... and actually, the Ditto Story could use a little action. Before April, not much was happening so a little action is a nice break! Just keep in mind we do have an overarching plot already and that's what most writers will be focusing on.

Shastastwin, in regards to your four agents:

Spoiler
It's an interesting idea, and I really like the idea of having The Nine involved in trying to balance Good, Evil, Chaos and Order. I just think they should inevitably fail because Good and Evil at least can never be balanced. Trying to pretend that Evil is the opposite of Good on the same scale (and that it can be controlled) actually sounds like a good reason for at least one of the Nine's downfall.

And we haven't had much "Nine" activity lately. I think the people that were writing them all took a hiatus. Hopefully they haven't left forever. You came back after all. :) So the question now is, how do the Nine fit into this split dimension, and if we don't have anyone to write them, should we just put that set of villains on hold until we get though the current plot?

Ara:

Spoiler
I'll PM you more about involving the Nine. As far as the other Nine writers go (mostly Kat and JP), I tend to defer to them in matters of the Nine, since they've done most of the brainstorming and such regarding the inner workings of the Nine. I still have control of Number 6, who was rather uncharacteristic of the Nine toward the end of the last story, getting personally involved in the assault on the School and all. I'm fine leaving their involvement unaddressed until we can get Kat and/or JP's feedback on the subject though.

Wow, so many good posts lately!! :D

stwin, your characters have sure come back with a vengeance. :P :D I'm really looking forward to see where things go from here. :)

stargazer, I feel so bad for poor Abby now. :P (Hopefully Ryana can make up for the intrusion soon. ;) )

Right now, I'm in the process of working on a few different posts. :P I'm hoping to have at least one of them up within the next couple of days, but it looks like my characters are going to be divided between two different points in the story. :P I'll try to label posts appropriately to avoid confusion.

Varna, hopefully you find that segment! It's no fun to lose your writing. :( And I LOVED your post in Games and Blogs. You know the one. ;)

I was so hoping you would go back and see that post - it's not always possible to post anything good in that game, and I enjoyed the opportunity :)

I expect there will be more time to look for the segment now that my summer holidays have started. Unless we go away for too long ...

Will it be realistic (story-wise, we're not doing real reality ;) ) that other parts of our world would have an alternate reality as well? Seeing that the gargoyles of Eric's clan, who live in our world (at least as Varna visits it) have one? Varna might be aware of it - not as directly as the others, but still ...

If it's not just a local thing in the gargoyles' area, that is, caused by some not so far-reaching effect?

Just posted one of my segments; still working on the other one. :P I also, finally, got around to posting bios for Kirane and Logan, as well as an updated bio for Phoenix Archer (which actually explains her history :P ).

Varna--I think the idea so far has been that the alternate reality is basically an alternate version of the entire universe. So, Ditto Town and all other worlds in that alternate universe are separate from the ones here. (And, for some reason, these worlds seem to be coming into contact with each other.) I hope that made sense; my brain does not want to function today....
