Aaaand, for the part I completely forgot to add to my earlier post. Please note: you guys can completely veto this, if you so choose. I'm just making a suggestion.
So, we've kind of talked on and off about where the story currently is--how it's mostly slice of life right now and/or individual plots, how we don't have an overarching story right now, etc. Well, I've been thinking: we have a lot of stuff involving portals to other worlds. We have the "stargate", Kirane, and lots of characters who have come from another world. We could probably make a plot out of it. (After all, most of the previous stories have been something that happened, and the rest of the town reacting to it.) To be honest, my main idea is that all the portals around Ditto Town start doing strange things--like sending creatures from other worlds (not necessarily sentient or friendly) to Ditto Town, and maybe snatching a few of our own. (No idea what might've started it or whatever.)
I think the one big problem is that I'm not really sure what we could do about it, unless we just want to incorporate it into the story from now on (and that could be cumbersome). It's just an idea that's been bouncing around in my head, and I wanted to pitch it, so to speak. (Incidentally, I'm beginning to think we might've had a similar discussion before. Well, hopefully not....)

Interesting idea, Ryadian! I kind of used a similar idea (on a smaller scale, in a separate story) with the portal Erik and his family use to go back and forth between their home world and Ditto Town.
(It's the ATLA crossover I've mentioned to you before - just a fun, lighthearted episode. Though it's non-canon in my mind, I did reference it in my 2009 NaNo story, which I do consider canon at the moment).
A note: I do like the slice of life stuff; we can't have epic battles to save the universe or the planet all the time...yet an overarching plot sounds like a good idea. And if this plot idea is agreeable to all, perhaps it could be a way to work Elaina's character into the story.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Am I allowed to place the Warped Willow just a little ways out from the edge of town? I was thinking that it could be at the end of a road that lead from the edge of town to the town square.. only not quite right at the end more of a "connected near then end by a path" kind of at the end.

I believe that would be fine, Elaina! We're pretty flexible with the town's setup, especially regarding those places on its outskirts.

Well I will write up my first post then! I'm going to use the first one basically as an introductory post so that she can be seen in her element and then I would be happy to collaborate with anyone who would care to do so on the next one

Hey, it's time I return! I am completely in agreement with Rya... maybe because I introduced the new portal? BY the way, we can call it the HTD instead of stargate, because that's what it is:
The screen glowed blue and the words "TRAN345 3rd-Generation Hyperspace Transport Device" showed up for 10 seconds.
I do like that idea...
And welcome, Elaina! Feel free to contact me if you think our characters can somehow connect.
Also (sorry about the double-post) Loren and Eliana (and Cameron, who is staying with them) live in a house a little ways out form town, probably half a mile, in a clearing by the side of the road leading south from Ditto Town. There is also the Ditto Town Mill, which is located on a stream which runs through the north-east quadrant of town. Roj lives there with his family and the hired boy Axe. Man, I ought to write some pieces for them. I think I'll be collaborating with Ara on that in the near future (which means in the next 4 months...). OK! That's it for now.
*faints at Sonny's double post*
I like your idea about the new portal's effects (in your spoiler). (And I'm curious as to what's happening next with your characters after activating it!) [/thinly veiled hint ]

Yeah, I'm trying to get with Joe to finish up that segment. our method of collaboration is more like real-time role play. So if he's not online when I am, it's hard to get anything written. Maybe I'll have to bug him... Sorry for the long absence.
Looking forward to that, Elaina! (For future reference--unless something happens, my characters are pretty much available because I don't have much planned right now. And right now, they're both staying in a cottage which is on the outskirts of town, practically in the woods.... )
Sonny--Your spoilered suggestion sounds like a great idea! A perfect catalyst. (And thanks for the pointer about the HTD's name--forgot about that. I have some vague ideas about what I'm going to do with Ryana and Kirane, but I'll wait until I'm sure more people are interested. I don't want to do something that could destroy Ditto Town if it would ruin someone's plans....

Elaina, that was beautiful! I am eager to hear more, and hope that someday our characters will met up!
Thank you! It was lots of fun to write

Ditto to Sonny's remarks! Your segment was excellent; the detailed description made it like I was outside of Ditto Town being introduced to your character and her home.

Elanor (stargazer?) wrote: New writers often get into the Ditto Story with one or several introductory posts describing their characters and getting them to Ditto Town, where they might meet some of the locals.
Oh dear. At least my characters are very near to Ditto Town now. But unless your definition of "several" is very generous, I fear I've already trampled your sensible precedent. At least you won't have to worry about me surprising you with backstory.
But yes, I've written my characters into town, however the new bits needs polishing badly. Give me a few more days and I'll be properly in town and interacting with all the other talented writers here.

On a day like this (you posted on Sun 01 Apr, 2012 7:18 am) you may find that things often change in this place.
