Prayers said, Sonny.
On your other note, I think using naquadah would be fine, seeing as devices like it are the sort of thing we import from other fiction all the time. Furthermore it is actually based on an egyptian word- or a place name, I forget. (I saw it on a map in the British Museum and I had a minor geek-out. )
I have returned to story posting! I hope I can be a little more consistent- which is to say, sorry for my absence.
Kat, you intrigue me! And Rya, excellent cameo as well.
Thanks, Leuth and Jill.
Hey, Jill, I feel this horrible ominous sense of foreboding bad stuff... OK, does that make sense?!
Naquadah it is, then. Still trying to figure out how the thing works, but, yeah, it'll be awesome, in my opinion... ;P If only I had the time to get a 3D version of it drawn up so I could post it...
I was laughing aloud at your latest segment, JP (other than that bit of foreshadowing Sonny refers to). Great wordplay. I love the way you've written the interaction of the guys in the band.
Your segment was also very good, kat. A mysterious stranger from the past, a thickening plot...
So when's the dog coming home, Ryadian?
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Finally posted - that's my first post in Ditto Story 8 ...

And...the movie night is afoot! Nice segment, Varna...we learn more about your character's background and how she feels about Ditto Town.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
we learn more about your character's background and how she feels about Ditto Town.
Including the fact that unlike some of the other characters here, she hasn't time-jumped from LotR-time to Ditto Town. She has lived for the intervening millennia - five, I guess, but that could be debated - at Rivendell, and with the dwindling number of inhabitants there, it's not surprising that she might get bored.
Five thousand years with the same twenty something people?

My apologies for being the slowest writer imaginable. One day my characters might arrive in Ditto Town and I will be able to participate properly. In the meantime, please be patient with me.
Also, I am enjoying everyone's stories. I am in the midst of some talented writers! ... and Tolkien fans!
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore"
Good to have you back, Ravenbrook. I must say, despite being the "slowest writer imaginable", you've certainly given us quite a lot at once! Your descriptions are gorgeous, and I also enjoy your authorial interjections.
I am looking forward to finding out what exactly is going on though!
*offers a hearty 'ditto' to JillPole's comments*
Your writing and descriptions are very elegant, Ravenbrook, and remind me of Jane Austen's style of writing. Good stuff!
I'm curious about the matter of names....the young lady seems to have forgotten hers whilst the white-haired gentleman is keeping his secret for the moment. Hmmm...
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Talking of the movie night - I'll be going to a real one soon!
A friend of mine (who has a 50" TV screen) is inviting some LotR nerds for a movie marathon on Saturday 19 February. We're allowing 4 hours per EE movie and an hour per break - so 14 hours altogether ...
I'm much more comfortable about viewing it in a private home, where we can take breaks whenever we want, rather than going to a cinema LotR marathon. She has been to one of those some years back, but I didn't go.
I told her about this thread
We'll start at 9 in the morning, and if we need all the breaks we've allowed for, we should be finished an hour before midnight ...

Sounds great, Varna! Have a wonderful time!
I'm working on a segment that'll bring us up to the start of the movie night; it may be up in the next week or so.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
We needed more breaks than we had reckoned with - we went on till past midnight ...
But it was a great success, very enjoyable
But if we're talking about the EE - and we should - even watching them with no breaks at all would take between 10 and 11 hours.
Just to be realistic for our movie night - it should start early and be expected to last long after midnight.

Well, it's probably easy to guess that I'm new here... and I was wondering how exactly to join one of the role plays, and also if there are some good fantasy ones going on... I think that's pretty concise...
Avatar and signature drawn by me!
Glad you enjoyed your movie night, Varna!
-A few thoughts on the one in our story: the guests are welcome to arrive any time after Erik returns home (in my last segment he went out to get the treats from the C&P. He could have had them delivered but it's a beautiful day to get outside and show off his daughter ). It's late afternoon.
- There would be an intermission between each film; time to talk, stretch, get a little food (perhaps have a 'real' meal, as opposed to treats, after Fellowship), and maybe even go outside to stretch their legs on the Emporium grounds or next door at the MacCormac Gardens. In this case Erik would love to point out any celestial sights above; this could lead to a discussion of Middle-earth astronomy (in very general terms) if we like.
-We wouldn't have to watch all 3 extended editions if the characters decide it's just getting too late. The gargs won't mind; they're nocturnal, after all. And the little ones likely will be asleep. But we can play that by ear.
I've written a rough draft of a post-movie night segment in which Erik reflects on the evening; this would be posted after the other characters' experiences/thoughts on the movie night.
Welcome to NarniaWeb and Ditto Town, Lady_Of_The_Sea! We have a variety of role plays here, including some with fantasy elements. Here are a few helpful tips on getting involved in the role plays here. (All the pages I mention can be accessed from the Ditto Town main page).
-First, please read the Section Rules and the Ditto Town Lexicon. These contain helpful general information.
-Try reading a few pages of the Featured Role-Plays, or the Mansion to see if one strikes your fancy. Also, The Fountain is a general thread with a variety of role-plays. If you find one you'd like to join, please post in the Cavern Tavern (a general role-play discussion thread, much like this Library is for the Ditto Story) that you're interested in joining. Please get permission before joining a role-play in progress. If you're interested in joining the Ditto Story (Inn Between), please post right here and we'll be glad to help you get started.
-Develop your character(s) - original characters only please. If you like you can post their biographical info in The Post Office (for role-plays) or the Census Bureau (for the Inn Between).
-Lastly, you may wish to start a brand role-play of your own. You can do this in the Fountain. Feel free to post a comment in the Cavern Tavern inviting others to join in the fun!

My deepest apologies to everyone for dropping off the face of the internet in regards to the ditto story. I was getting a grip on my schedule and it kind of went and exploded again. After Tuesday, I'm hoping things'll level out a bit again. stargazer, the segment you sent me is first on my list. Then I'll finish mine.
