Interesting description of your portal, Varna. It's fun to consider the different ways we look at these things.
My portal was simply a plot device to get Erik to and from the Ditto World, and at first I didn't think too much about its details. Since then I've added some description: a sort of small, glowy patch visible only if one looks closely, with no indication of its true nature or where it might lead. Erik ended up going through it after his curiosity prompted him to poke his nose - or a talon - into the patch to see what happens.
I envision it as a sort of cross between the Star Trek transporter - a painless molecular disassembler/reassembler - and the Deep Space Nine wormhole - a stable path leading between the two worlds, but with no other destinations. And added a touch of the weightless, sensory-deprived between of Anne McCaffrey's Pern stories (how's that for a hybrid? ).
I've hinted that Erik has wondered if it'll remain stable, and have thought about exploring that, but ultimately that would only lead to my characters being 'stuck' in one world or the other. (I did write a story in which the gate led to a different world than expected, and that was fun).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Perhaps my portals are mostly similar to the wormholes, then - with the difference that some of them aren't stable, they come and go (or rather, open and close - very Narnian, they are). I keep them open every time Varna needs them, but perhaps I should have them closed if she only tries to investigate?
Perhaps some of them really are stable wormholes, though? Perhaps depending on which worlds they lead between?

OK, part 2 is up! Thanks to Joe for his work. The way we did this was actually in the chat room. I'd post my part of the conversation, and then he'd post his. it worked very well.
This segment gives some of Cameron's history, and leaves two threads hanging. One of them is the introduction to a very important story arc. Um, you probably already know what.
I enjoyed seeing some of Cameron's history. The segment is nicely written - like we're sitting there with them.
And the description of food made me think of the Chronicles' description of meals. And made me hungry for some garlic bread (toasted).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Nice segment, stargazer - I look forward to playing that scene

Great segments, guys--haven't been posting much recently, but I have been keeping up! Now I'm also looking forward to the DVD watching.
A couple of things. First of all, I just posted a new segment, which contains a slight surprise for most of you. This is an idea I've had for a few months now, and I could no longer resist. Besides, it was a fun chance to re-introduce something from Ditto Story 4....
Secondly, I was reading the discussions about portals, and... well, it's a slight spoiler, but this was going to come out almost as soon as she came anyways. I actually have a character I'm going to introduce soon who is very interested in the portals around Ditto Town. I had an idea that she would try to, essentially, make a map of all the different portals they know about--maybe try to make sense of them all. How well she does kind of depends on what everyone thinks of it. I mean, half the fun of Ditto Town sometimes is the lack of explanations we have for some things, and I don't want to steal the "magic" from anyone else by trying to explain it all away. ...I hope I'm making sense. ^^'
I think it'll make more sense once I've introduced her. For now, I just wanted to let you guys know, since the subject came up.

To Varna the Bookseller, the portals are not so much about adventure any more, they are about going to where the books are, to stock up her bookshop. She's getting more and more practical about it. She might be interested in cooperating with your character ...

Fun segment, Rya. Ryana will enjoy having a boisterous pet around, methinks.
Your new character's investigations of the portals will give lots of opportunities for interactions with current characters.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Sounds awesome, Rya! Please let the DeHonds and Cameron work with the new character, if you will. I designed my portal in my mind, and though is it similar in some remote ways to Stargates, it's not the same. In fact, it is very different. But another question about that: would it be OK to use naquadah, or how about introducing a new element that is just as cool, like, oh, I don't know, elendia or something? Or is that too close to the Stargte universe?
I enjoyed your seg, Rya. Made me want another dog! Though my preferred type is Welsh Corgi.
On another note, my father passed away last week, so perhaps I will have absent times, tough I will try to keep up as much as possible.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Sorry to hear that, Sonny!
“O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie…”
That's my favorite Christmas Carol! Nice segment, stargazer!
Edit:
Btw, I may be without internet access for a few days.
See you all later!

Thanks, Varna. I enjoyed writing that segment.
Sonny, please accept these belated condolences for your loss. Your family has been in my thoughts and prayers.
Incidentally, my brother has a very-friendly Welsh corgi. If I were to get a dog, I'd strongly consider that breed.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I've been praying as well Sonny.
Sorry for dropping off the face of the 'net for so long. Long story short... crazy month at work.
I've posted a segment with a major curve ball. I will try and get more up in the next week or so with a few more hints about who this mysterious figure is. I will say this, it's from way back in Ditto Town past. Happy New Year!

Sorry, clarity failure on my part. I meant I didn't want to take away the "magic" from the authors. Either way, we should definitely take a look at that when I introduce her!
I'm very sorry to hear about your father too, Sonny. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers as well.
But yes, I'll be sure to get in touch with you after she's introduced. After her introductory posts, I don't have a whole lot planned for her, so she's pretty much free. (Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Stargate, so I can't really offer advice. ) And I think Corgis are adorable! I wouldn't want one myself (I hear they're expensive and I actually prefer bigger dogs), but they are sooo cute.
I enjoyed the last few segments, stargazer and Kat! 'gazer, out of the current timeline or not, your segment gave me plenty of "D'awww...." moments. Especially since you hit some of my favorite Christmas carols.
And Kat... now I'm going to be wracking my brain trying to figure out who it is. But the only mysterious figures I can think of...
Suffice it to say you've given me something to do until you reveal it.
And now, to end this ridiculously long post ( ), I'm still working on my next segment. Sorry about the delay--I seem to have hit a bit of writer's block.

He was and he wasn't. Know one really knew for sure. But he has been in more than one of my segments before. He is not one of my characters.
My belated condolences also, Sonny.
