There would only be up to date photos if they are still acting.

Richard Dempsey is still a professional actor - saw him twice when I lived in London. He's a good singer/dancer and a nice actor. I wished I could have seen some more meaty roles, but he was doing well with the two I saw.

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

My favorite performances in the BBC Version were Tom Baker (Puddleglum), Camilla Power (Jill), David Thwaites (Eustace), and Warwick Davis (Reepicheep). I'll admit that I wasn't a huge fan of the Pevensies in the BBC Version.

Puddleglum and Jill I loved but I hated the Pevensies and wasn't really bothered by Eustace so SC was the only one I really enjoyed the films are a million times better.

Comfort child we are between the paws of the true Aslan.- King Tirian

If this is the real world the the play world a great deal better- Puddleglum

When the BBC TV serial started it was exciting and we all loved it. Including the child actors - who were more like 12-15 year olds, not little kids.

I liked Trumpkin and Puddleglum's characterisations.

I totally disliked what they did to the Beavers - surely they could have had puppets? The poor actors couldn't walk or talk successfully - hope that costume designer never did such a thing again.
Ditto the person who put Lucy into a cardigan a couple of sizes too small!

Thank you, Pattertwig, for starting this thread!

I liked those who played Peter, Susan, and Edmund - but not Lucy. She was cast all wrong. And Eustace, Jill, and Puddleglum were well cast too. :)

The only actor I've seen outside Narnia is Peter - Richard Dempsey. I remember him in The Prince of Hearts (end cameo almost) and Island at War (well done, Richard!). I've also seen Aristocrats and Wives and Daughters, but I don't remember him in either film. I really like Richard as an actor. He's generally memorable. :)

So, if you had to compare BBC with Disney and Fox, who did better in each of the main roles?

EDIT: Eustace and Jill!

I saw Eustace (David Thwaites) in Jewels. He was memorable for being just like Eustace in that movie. :p The big shocker is that he's a producer. Guess what for? Black Swan (now in theaters) and License to Wed! :-o I hate Black Swan (for the plot) and I REFUSE to watch it. X(

I saw Jill (Camilla Power) in Hornblower: Duty. It was the latest installment in the Hornblower TV series starring Ioan Gruffudd. :x Camilla played Betsy, the American wife of Napoleon's brother Jerome. I recognized her immediately. :p

Your welcome.

So, if you had to compare BBC with Disney and Fox, who did better in each of the main roles?

That is really hard, especially since there are so many variables. :p Now, if they were using the same script, it would be easier to compare. I don't have problems with any of actors or actresses in the BBC version. I think they all did a good job. Georgie is the prefect Lucy so I would have to say that she did better. Barbara did an excellent job as the White Witch, and I didn't like Tilda's portrayal of the White Witch. (of course that isn't necessarily Tilda's fault, since I think that was the way the director / writers / powers that be want the witch portrayed). I like Sophie better than Anna as Susan. The way Anna portrayed Susan was a bit too strong (once again that probably had more to do with the what the powers that be wanted than with Anna's acting).

I think you should answer your own question 220chrisTian. ;))

I think the BBC did a better job of casting Caspian in PC (and write the script) than Walden.

@Pattertwig: you want me to answer my own question? Be prepared! :p

Casting: You're right. There are many variables, the most important being the different scripts. Another factor is time. My discussion of the BBC films is based on memories. I haven't seen them since I was a teenager. I'm 30 now. The Disney films are much more recent. I saw LWW in 2008 (twice) and PC in 2009. I haven't seen VDT yet.

Peter: I like Richard and William equally. It's hard to choose. Yet I think Richard has the edge. He seemed more manly, more assertive in some ways than William - especially in LWW.

Susan: I like Sophie and Anna equally as well. Anna did come off too strong sometimes, especially in PC. I didn't really like her role in that script. Yet in that film, she fitted my image of Susan in the later books - VDT and LB.

Edmund: I thought Jonathan a fine Edmund in LWW and VDT. He was probably my favorite Pevensie in the BBC films. I also thought he was the best well cast. Yet once Skandar came along, I really feel like he eclipsed Jonathan as Edmund. When I think Ed in the books, I think Skandar. :P

Lucy: I didn't like Sophie at all. She was just all wrong. Georgie is the perfect Lucy and no one can replace her in the films. No one. :)

Eustace: I also thought David perfect in the role. But I can't really compare him to Will since I haven't seen the new VDT yet. Based on what I've seen of him in trailers and short clips, I think Will was perfectly cast as Eustace. But I think his scripted role (and acting) were a little overdone. He's almost a caricature rather than a real human being. I've heard Will goes from bad to good, too fast, and there's no real character development in between. As bad as some people are, they're individuals with quirks. And sometimes those quirks include compassion and kindness. My mother and I have both witnessed sinners being kinder to us in a hard or rough time than Christians, church people. People are humanly inconsistent. There are shades of gray in every person's makeup. It's not all black and white. And this is what I think David as Eustace had, and Will as Eustace missed. Whose fault is that? Probably the director and scriptwriters... /:)

Caspian: I don't remember Jean Mark or Samuel in the BBC films very well, just a snapshot of their faces. So I think Ben has eclipsed them both. From what I've seen of VDT (trailers, clips), I think Ben is the perfect King Caspian and no one can replace him. PC? Ben was forgettable and not really that likeable. I especially hated his accent.

White Witch: I think Barbara and Tilda did equally well with the scripts they had. But I think Tilda edges out Barbara just a bit. The BBC witch just wasn't that scary. Tilda was, yet also knew how to turn on the charm when she needed to. I don't remember Barbara being as convincing with this aspect of her role.

Reepicheep: I prefer CG to a giant mouse costume. :p

I have to say, I pretty much agree 100% with 220chrisTian.

I like how Peter was portrayed in the BBC's better, but wasn't William's fault I don't think. I always liked Reep in the BBC one, as far as his character goes, but he is MUCH cuter in the new movies, and overall better I think. The white witch in the BBC was way too over the top in my opinion. I liked her character because it was a bit comical, but in the new movies she seemed much more of a threat and I took her seriously, much better version!

Horrid, the acting is one of the reasons I hate them so much, I don't think there was a single actor there with any real experience.
The only ones I thought were semi-alright would be Caspian in VDT, maybe Ed and I guess Jill, though none of them were very good either.

I really enjoyed Camilla Power's preformance she was a perfect Jill. :)
Aslan - Ronald Pickup-Both Aslans were very good. I really liked how in a sense both seemed like Aslan.
Peter Pevensie - Richard Dempsey-Will and Richard were pretty good as Peters. None seemed better than the other for the part. They both played Peter very well in LWW. In Walden PC, Peter was out of character anyway, so Will had to play what they wanted him to play.
Susan Pevensie - Sophie Cook-She was a motherly figure much like Anna tried to be a motherly figure. I think they both succeeded in a way.
Edmund Pevensie - Jonathan R. Scott-I don't know, he just didn't make it for me. He was my favorite character besides Eustace in books but in the BBC version not as much.
Lucy Pevensie - Sophie Wilcox-Both Lucys to me looked and acted like Lucys.
Reepicheep - Warwick Davis-Yeah, hmmm....Walden's Reepicheep won for this one hands down.
Eustace - David Thwaites -He wasn't bad as Eustace but I did like Will Poulter better.
Caspian - Jean Marc Perret (PC, SC), Samuel West (VDT), Geoffrey Russell (SC) -Jean Marc Perret was good for Caspian and so was Geoffrey Russell but for me Samuel West didn't make me believe he was actually Caspian three years older.
The White Witch, the Hag, and the Green Lady - Barbara Kellerman-Wow, she was the hag too? I guess I need to watch BBC VODT all over again. But I think she was a fine WW and LOTGK.
Rilian - Richard Henders-He was kind of scary and weird but he was suppose to be at first.
Puddleglum - Tom Baker- He was an okay Puddleglum.
