I don't know why'd they'd have to make him older. I mean, Bill Nighy doesn't exactly sound like an old man (or mouse ) and that's not what Reep is, so I don't know why'd they have to change it for age. I think the most likely cause was Izzard just dropped out for some reason or other.
so there you have it. they made Reep older for VODT, to coincide with his going over to Aslan's country,
Who on NF posted that it's because Reep ages? I think that may have just been speculation.
Reep will look older, but I don't think that was the reason he was recast.
whoever it is that runs the NarniaFans facebook page, so its Paul and his crew. you can ask them yourself directly if you're doubting the validity.
barring any kind of salary/ benefits dispute, its the most lilkely explanation as to the switch from Izzard to Nighy. it may not have been indicated so in the book, but an older, wiser Reep would make his passing over to Aslan's Country more poignant in the end. it will also mirror what Caspian will go through-- which the audience will witness-- when its his turn at Aslan's Country. provided of course that they would even shoot Silver Chair.

...the Telmarine who saved Narnia.
Although I still think it is terrible they replaced Eddie Izzard (Why, God, Why?!), I think that if someone has to replace him, Bill Nighy is one of the best, if not the best way to go. I just hope that the character stays the same! After all, if you pay attention to it, Bill Nighy's voice is not that different from Izzard's. I just hope that they do the character justice.
Well, first off, I agree with Valiant_Lucy. Though it was Davy Jones the voice did not sound so far off Reep's actual voice in tone and stuff. And then what icarus was saying about him being able to change his voice quite a bit, that is a good thing. Hopefully, it means he can make himself sound a bit like Eddie. Also didn't Tirian see footage with Reep in? Maybe we could ask him what he thought? (Assuming Reep spoke.) Because didn't we hear Bill had actually done the lines already? I'm definitely feeling better about this news, though I'm still disappointed.

I kinda wish the Eddie could have stayed. I really like him as Reep.

Im giddy with excitement that Eddie was replaced with Bill Nighy. I've gotten used to Izzard as Reep, but I have to admit I dont like his interpretation. Having Reep be recast as Nighy shows that this decision was not made lightly by Walden, as Nighy is a very reputable actor. Coupled with the fact that in an earlier interview, Izzard was quoted as saying that he assumed that he would be Reep in VDT but he hadnt heard anything yet, shows that Walden also felt that possibly PC's rendition of Reep wasnt what VDT needed. As far as im concerned, this is wonderful news! It shows that they are leaving no stone unturned in trying to right the Narnia franchise
your fellow Telmarine
I thikn this is the only piece of information that I have heard that really bothers me! I want Eddie Izzard back! oh well.....
I just hope that Bill Nighy can sound close enough to Eddie's voice so that everyone isn't going, "wait, that's not the same voice!" in the theater!

Liberty Hoffman I'm still saddened too. More because of continuity I guess now.
However, Bill Nighy is a very talented actor especially as far as voices go. I recently watched him in a movie, G-Force, and in it he put on a Aussie accent and as we all know he has a Scottish accent in POTC. Another thing I took out of G-Force was the fact they can change/distort voices. They kind of mentioned this tool in the podcast which made me think of it. Nicolas Cage's character in G-Force is a mole and you would have no idea it was his voice because of what they did with it. So they may do something like this with Nighy's voice though I wouldn't bet on it.
So it will be interesting to see what they do with Nighy's talents, but I'm still in the Eddie Izzard support club.
(BTW, Liberty Hoffman I've noticed this before but I've observed you like the movie Journey to the Center of the Earth! It's great isn't it? I really like it! Sorry for the off-topicness. )

Bill Nighy is one of my favorite actors and personally on my top list to do the voice of Reeicheep before PC was made. I think he'll do great although Eddie Izzard will be missed.

Does anyone else feel that using Bill Nighy to replace the voice of Reepicheep seems like a bit of a waste? Given that recasting Reepicheep doesn't seem to have been an entirely necessary move (i.e. there doesnt seem to have been any scheduling or financial reasons why they couldn't get Eddie Izzard to return) it seems like they could of saved an actor of such considerable talent as Bill Nighy for a future role, where his acting abilities could be put to much better use in front of the camera, not just as a voice.
At 6'2" in height, with a slender frame, and a somewhat naturally dour voice, i think Bill Nighy would of made a brilliant Piuddleglum, or even as Coracle suggested earlier as an Uncle Andrew. Oh well...
^I see your point Icarus. It may have been smarter to keep Izzard as Reep, and use Nighy as another major role in a future film.
I've heard, maybe it was on this thread, that the director said he was trying to make Reep older. While I appreciate it, I just hope they don't make him in the human equivalent of his 90's
I still wish they kept Izzard

Heh, blimey! Bill Nighy?
What happened to Eddie Izzard?
Though I'm sure the change of voice could represent an aging in the mouse - he was a bit younger in Prince Caspian, wasn't he?
Anyway, yeah... Bill Nighy - that's an interesting choice. I've seen his amazing performance as Davy Jones and as Dylan the Rabbit in the "Magic Roundabout" movie - two very different characters! I wonder just how he will handle the role of an 18-24" tall mouse, previously portrayed (by Izzard) as slightly posh, slightly sarcastic and highly reckless...

Like glumPuddle, I'm concerned, but I'll hold my opinion until I see and hear.
Lost in the woods and weary he looked into the night sky and a voice spoke to him, "As long as the moon shines, I will be with you. The day the moon no longer shines, you will be with Me."
It depends on how the voicing is done. I'm sure it won't just be his own normal voice. This would leave him available to be cast in an acting role as well (in a different Narnia film).
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
