AHHHHH! why oh why is Eddie Izzard being replaced!!!!????????????????
I am very sad.....I love his voice for Reepicheep! I don't think Bill Nighy's voice is very suitable for Reepicheep......
now I am feeling sad and annoyed about this whole thing......ugh!
but I guess I'll have to live with it, right?

PS: I know this is of topic, but Glumpuddle, would you really want new actors for Harry, Ron and Hermione every two movies? I love how you can see them evolve, and for me, they really became the face of the movie franchise. When I read the books, I do not picture them in my head (I do this with Hagrid dough!). Imagine that Lucy would be played by someone else than Georgie Henley. I would find that immensely distracting.
Okay, so we have the same actors, but at what cost? This is the reason the HP movies and very underwhelming as adaptations. They don't have time to do anything but re-enact the book and point a camera at it. They aren't able to give the scripts the loving attention they deserve. This is all because they are in a tremendous rush to get the movies filmed before the actors get too old. So I say they should just keep hiring new actors so that won't be a concern.
Eddie Izzard and Georgie Henley are two examples where I almost picture them when I read the books (in the case of Izzard, I imagine his voice). So either of them being recast would be a very difficult thing for me. But everyone else... not so much. I think Ben Barnes did a fine job as Caspian, but I would rather lose him than Izzard at this point.
A change for the better. Izzard did a decent job in PC, but nothing particularly memorable. Nighy should be able to bring more authority to the role. But really, I don't think that a mouse should have a grown man's voice – it doesn't make sense physically. I can see why a squeaky falsetto could make Reep appear ridiculous, but a normal male voice also gives credibility problems – the voice so obviously comes from somewhere else than from within the character.
I am in two minds about this. I personally liked Eddie Izzard's interpretation and agree with gP that he nailed it. I did feel his accent was if anything too British but I never really cared. I think Bill's voice could be a bit too low but then I've only seen him in Pirates as well. Also as I didn't watch the video I don't know whether his accent is actually Scottish or not as it is in Pirates. But I was also interested in fantasia_kitty's suggestion (or was it icarus) who said they could be trying to age Reepicheep. In which case I wouldn't mind and I could imagine the filmmakers doing this, but then again they do have to blend the voices well as has already been said. I also feel sorry for Eddie in this as he sounded like he wouldn't mind coming back, but as we can't change the filmmakers minds:
GO BILL! MAY YOU DO US PROUD! (and try to sound like an older Eddie at the same time.)
I'm still not totally convinced but hopefully they pull it off well.
BTW does this call for a podcast?

One point we haven't considered - Bill is an actor, whereas Eddie is principally a comedian. This gives them different skills, and I think Bill's ability in voice work has to be superior - not to mention his years of experience - this has been his work all his life!
HMSwanwhite, I can't believe you thought Eddie's Reep too British! Several people I know thought he sounded American!
There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

I am personally VERY VERY VERY dissapointed. I am currantly to depressed to say anything else right now but I might pop back in later.

Personally, I found the depiction of Reepicheep in Prince Caspian very untrue to his character. Though a warrior mouse is rather laughable, the mouse should be laughable because of the fact that he's a warrior mouse and that's a little ridiculous; not because he's being rude, or tying up a cat, or doing silly actions that add to his ridiculousness. His boldness and chivalry should shine through and be the main aspects of his character.
The fact that a new Reepicheep has been cast makes me feel as though the filmmakers will be taking a new direction with Reep's character.
Here's hoping that Mr. Nighy will do a fabulous job!

Being a good actor is a necessary part of being a good comedian. Comedians are natural actors, and can usually deliver great dramatic performances when they want to. For example, Jim Carrey in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." Brillaint, low key performance.
glumPuddle, you seem to be assuming that Bill Nighy isn't going to do as good a job as Eddie Izzard did. Listening to Bill's voice (not as Davy Jones...that's not his natural voice and a bad reference to use) and Eddie's, I think Bill can pull off Reep's voice quite well, or close enough that it doesn't matter. The only problems I have with this is the continuity, but I don't think that will matter that much if Bill makes his voice sound like Eddie's, which I'm confident he can. Bill is a brilliant actor, and he can definitely pull off the preformance and if he models his voice after Eddie's, I have no problems with it.

Since he isn't really goign to appear in the film it won't be as a big of a deal, liek fi they replaced edmond.

He might be great, but I'm just so incredibly locked into Izzard's voice coming from that character. So much that I almost hear that voice when I read the book now.
You know, glumPuddle, you should look on the bright side. Bill Nighy is such a good and experienced actor that perhaps he can ACT like he is Eddie Izzard. Consequentially, he will be able to ACT like he is Reepicheep as well.

This is simply horrible. Why on earth would they replace Eddie I don't understand this at all he was awsome as Reep. That being said Bill Nighy is a good actor and will probably do a decent job. However it's a sad loss and i'm going to miss Eddie immensely he was truly great as Reepicheep. And in the mean time I will go into a period of mouring.
This is no time to panic. Stay calm. Breathe, glumPuddle, breathe! *hands glumPuddle a paper bag*
Look, anyone who's had a favorite band change lead singers on them can relate (in however small a way) to this change. Reepicheep is one of my favorite characters in the series--second only to Aslan himself--and I thought Eddie Izzard did a great job bringing him to life. I'm disappointed they're not bringing the same voice actor back. But maybe, just maybe, Bill Nighy will be believable as the Reepicheep we met in PC. Maybe he won't sound so different that the character himself changes (that's my biggest fear in all this; that a change in voice will cause the character to change as well). Some actors sound so much alike that it's almost impossible to tell the difference between them.
I'm a Newsboys fan. And when I heard that Peter Furler was stepping down as lead singer, and DC Talk's Mike Tait was stepping up, I was upset. The Newsboys used to be an Australian band with a very distinct sound. And Mike Tait...well, DC Talk is not Newsboys. Not by a long shot. But as I watched video clips of Mike leading the Newsboys, I decided that he did have something to contribute to the band. I'm still sad that Newsboys is international now instead of pure Australian (Mike's American), but I've decided to give Mike a chance. He and the Newsboys will be in Montana in August, and I have every intention to be at that concert.
I say all of that to say, maybe Bill Nighy will make a great Reepicheep. Just as long as it's still Reepicheep. I'm willing to give the man a chance. Reluctant, but willing.
