I was thinking over the VDT clips, and thought of one direction they might be going with Eustace's character development.
Eustace had many negative qualitites in the first half of the book, and I'm sure the movie will try to touch on most of them (We have already seen instances of his brattiness and greed). But of course, to make his character seem "more developed", undoubtedly they will touch more on others (for an example with Lucy: the way they are playing with her and the mirror more than it was portrayed in the book). And I think one quality they may touch on more with Eustace is his laziness.
I'm not sure how many times it was mentioned in the book -- I remember at least once, when they land on Dragon Island, he wanders away from the others to avoid helping in the work. And again, later on, he learns to be more helpful while a dragon, by doing things for the others that only a dragon can do.
In the book, his laziness might not be as obvious as some of his other bad qualities. But I think in the movie it will be more apparent.
Especially if you consider the line: "I haven't seen you lift a finger since you've been here." Maybe it's just me, but I found it odd for the company to point that out so clearly, instead of just sticking to his other flaws. Which makes me think that they might try to make his laziness very clear to the audience in the finished product.
The labor he does for them as a dragon will probably be pointed out more in the movie, as well. Maybe that was even what Eustace was talking about when he said he made a better dragon than a boy?
Anyway, just an idea. What do you guys think?

I guess they want to point out laziness as a form of temptation and that nothing good and come out of it, which is true. Laziness is a sin and can lead to temptation. I bet he will be real helpful as a dragon. In SC he grows more and isn't useless at all in LB.

I think they might make Eustace work for them for a little while. But I think the main thing that will happen in this film for Eustace's huge change is that they do leave him on that island to continue on. In the book that was his huge fear being the dragon was being left behind, that also has to do with Christianity. Because in the other clips you don't see Eustace as a boy and once they get to the boat scene Edmund asked him what it was like instead of earlier in the film. I think that Eustace will be left behind and come in for a rescue thing at last minute with the sea serpent.
Picturing that in my head really does look theatrical and awesome. I can't wait.

I wonder how much the Pevensies will have to work for Eustace? Just regular chores, or will they be almost a slave or servant to him?
I hope he isn't left behind too long... it would be SO sad if he was offscreen for most of the movie! I want a lot of Eustace this December...

^^ I don't think there's going to be actual manual labor involved in the movie.....wouldn't that just take up time and slow things down? I think Edmund's line was just to illustrate to those who have never read the books (and even those who have, because that's how Eustace is) that Eustace is a spoiled brat
but I could be wrong......

Not necessarily. All it takes is a three minute shot, really, to show how much labor they are forced to do.
I don't know if you've ever seen the movie A Series of Unfortunate Events, but in that, the children were forced to do labor, and it didn't take long to show how much. In about 5-10 seconds, it had showed thair task list for the day, them scrubbing the floor, looking for ingredients in the cupboard to make dinner with, and it got the point across in a very short time.
So I don't think time would hinder it, if that's the direction they want to go.
