While I don't think this original casting rumor is 100% confirmed, I've noticed the majority of news sites are posting this as fact now. At any rate, this casting choice definitely deserves its own thread for sure as Daniel Craig is a huge heavy hitter in Hollywood.

I think the choice of Daniel Craig as Andrew Ketterley (whether true or not) is actually quite inspired. Craig is an incredibly talented actor with remarkable range. He has a gift for portraying characters who are both enigmatic and deeply flawed. From the icy control of James Bond to the quirky brilliance of Benoit Blanc, and even his offbeat roles in Logan Lucky and Queer.
From first thoughts I really don't think Daniel Craig matches the description or illustrations of Uncle Andrew... but that's not to say he won't play the role well, should he get cast! I am open to this. 🙂

There are always makeup and prosthetics and other wonders of modern film making. 😀

There is definitely no "a" in definite.
The Mind earns by doing; the Heart earns by trying.
That is true. As Craig's build is quite different to the pretty slender Andrew, if they're going to need to alter him a lot then they might as well have got another actor! They'll work with what they've got and I'm curious how it'll go. 🙂

We still don't know for sure if Daniel Craig is going to play Uncle Andrew, just that he seems to be another of the big-name stars who are "in talks" for a role. I also don't think he has the right build for Uncle Andrew, who ideally needs to be tall and skinny, not tall and, well, James Bond-ish. But that doesn't mean he couldn't do a good job in that role — and there's also the possibility that he's actually being considered for the voice of Aslan, and the Meryl Streep rumour is just a furphy that the Netflix people, for whatever reason, haven't bothered to correct. They really don't seem to be forthcoming with any clear information, even things that would be exciting (or a relief) for fans. Â

"Now you are a lioness," said Aslan. "And now all Narnia will be renewed."

Daniel Craig is closer to my stereotype for Frank the cabby than for Uncle Andrew appearance-wise (though I imagine Frank to be younger).
His performance as the villain in the Tin Tin movie does remind me a lot of Uncle Andrew character-wise and he can perform a very good villain (one of his first performances was as Sergeant Botha in The Power of One - which was a menacing performance whether or not you liked the movie).
I’d rather they get the character right than they get the look of the character right (though both would t hurt).
The term is over: the holidays have begun.
The dream is ended: this is the morning
Many of you have probably already seen this, but here's a link to the picture @icarus posted a while back that converted me to the idea of Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew.

As to Craig's height, I wonder if perhaps what they're doing is making Uncle Andrew a bit shorter so it's easier for Jadis to really tower over him. Uncle Andrew's height isn't exactly important to the plot other than to make him an imposing figure to Digory and Polly and they can do that in other ways besides making him super tall.Â
I agree that character comes first. I think Daniel Craig can easily bring out the manipulative charm, cowardice, and false grandeur of Uncle Andrew, and for me, that’s more important than matching the physical description. His role in Tintin is a good shout actually. While motion capture, it really shows he can tap into that slimy, self-importance, which would lend itself really well to Andrew.
@Courtenay I also don't think he has the right build for Uncle Andrew, who ideally needs to be tall and skinny, not tall and, well, James Bond-ish.
But he also needs to be able to outrun a stampede of animals, according to one of Pauline Baynes' illustrations for Magician Nephew. Not to mention being stuck in a cage of sorts, have honeycomb thrown all over him, and have a particularly self-important sort of voice. Â I think that Daniel Craig who has rather narrow eyes, might be just perfect for Uncle Andrew.
